Not really. He's a depth guy at best, don't want him playing more than third pairing minutes due to being limited in his puck skills. But he's a right shot and a "playoff style" add in that he's a bigger guy who consistently plays a fairly heavy/physical style. The double max retention brings his cap hit down below the league minimum, so all together it's fine.

Hopefully he's depth. If that's the guy they put with Rielly then things have not gone according to plan. I do think the plan is to add a more meaningful defenceman, which is why they got the double retention on his contract... Leaving cap space for something of substance.

Not remembering him can actually be quite good for a defensive defenseman.

Reinhart or Hymen gonna catch AM? All it takes is a good hot and cold spurt. Oh BTW the Panthers are something else right now. Def a well oiled machine on quite the heater.

Good move by the Oil, they don't draft particularly well anyway. Henrique is the type of versatile support player they need, and Carrick is a gritty, playoff style depth add.

That won't happen AM34's a sniper, Panthers have been a force for years now, they've done well.

Not many times you see an actual trade anymore, that Middlestadt for Byram trade was a good fit.

 

I like the Avs side, just not sure about Buffalo targeting Byram. Concussion issues are scary, and they are now so deep in LHD (Dahlin, Power, Byram, Samuelsson all lefties)

Auston would have to score 0 goals the rest of the season to be caught. And even that wouldn't be a guarantee.

Apparently the Flames have a deal worked out to trade Markstrom to Detroit, but ownership isn't letting them because they want to push for the playoffs. That team is going nowhere unless they get sold.

The precursor trade where Tanev went to Dallas and included Jersey as a salary retainer ... that laid the groundwork for the Markstrom deal, but ownership in Calgary is being f***in stupid, as usual.

 

Its a curse of the Alberta NHL teams, meddling ownership that ties their GMs hands, gets s*** results because what they want is obviously stupid, then fires them for doing what they are told.

 

Pick a lane. Doing it 75% of the way is just dumb. They're 6-4 in their last 10 and are 8 points out of a WC spot with 20 games left. They'd pretty much have to go 14-6 AND hope Nashville plays .500 or worse, AND Vegas keeps forgetting how to play hockey.

Really wasn't any rumor of him moving at the deadline, that's an off season move if anything.

 

Verbeek was pretty candid on the topic. He said look around the league at all these good teams who can never figure out their goaltending. When you have someone who has proven to be a workhorse, should be in no hurry to give them up.

 

Plus the Ducks used up their retention slots in the Lyubushkin and Edmonton (Henrique/Carrick) deals, just likely weren't any teams able to take on Gibson's full 6.4M right now.

 

Could see it finally going down by the draft though, if Dostal finishes strong. Give him more of the reigns and pair him with a cheaper 1B guy.
