Laika Community Moderator Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 Reilly is a bitch. If he didn't like that empty netter he should have not lost to the f***ing Ottawa Senators lmao. This is like the Jays having a "rivalry" with the White Sox or something. Embarrassing for Leafs fans everywhere
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 Hockey is dumb. This is like a 3B hitting someone in the mouth because he didn't like how long their home-run trot was taking
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 The amount of mouth breathers out there defending a cross check to the neck/head because of hurt feelings is amazing
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 I have seen players miss the open net when they try lob or guide the puck in on an open net. Maybe he just wanted to make sure it went in. It’s a mental thing.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 Yeah that's gotta be at least 2-3 games, even for a first time offender. A shot to the head that long after the play is done, not able to defend it as a "hockey play". Grieg is a s*** disturber, he knew what he was doing. Rielly took the bait, got himself suspended. Should have just dropped the mitts, Grieg would have obliged. Definitely not a hockey play, lol. The only thing Morgan has as a fall back is his clean history, and the cross check hit his shoulder first than rode up afterwards, Greig's a dick, that was bush but Morgan lost his cool, I'm fine with that.

Yeah, totally understand the feeling of wanting to take the guys head off, ya just don’t do it like that. You drop gloves and try getting him to also, or you wait till the next game and paste him into the boards every chance you get until he drops the gloves then. What he did was gutless and right up there on the list of coward crap that starts with the Claude Lemieux s*** on Draper in ‘96 or Dale Hunter on Turgeon in ‘93.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 (edited) lol... okay. Tell me how it’s different? All of them, cheap shots on guys with their backs turned. Hunter on Turgoen was even right after a goal, just like this one though Hunter got 21 games for it. He had a pretty lengthy history at that point. Edited February 11, 2024 by John_Havok
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 (edited) 6+ for Mo? 1st time offender Two other suspensions for cross checks this year were for 1 game (Mangiapane on McCann )and 6 games (Perron on Zub ). Both were first time offenders. This one comparatively was far closer to the Perron cross check than Mangiapane. Depends on how they feel about the circumstances being after a goal. My first thought was 3 for sure…then seeing the Perron thing and comparing…yeah, could be closer to 6. Edited February 11, 2024 by John_Havok
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 Don't think he should be suspended at all. Fine would suffice.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 Ridley Greig is a hero. Love the move, the rivalry needed energizing honestly.. Those early 2000s matchups were so much more fun than hockey is now. Leafs fans in shambles, I'm loving it.

Couple big swings here Jonn, but you look like Javy Baez swinging at a 58' curveball.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 Hockey is dumb. This is like a 3B hitting someone in the mouth because he didn't like how long their home-run trot was taking It is amazing how much hockey brings out the worst in people. As was noted, people do s*** in other sports that are considered "against the unwritten rules" and grown men are typically able to restrain themselves. But not in hockey. Someone pointed out the other day how they had to move the hand shakes in minor hockey to before the game (instead of after) because kids, playing a youth sport, can't control their emotions enough to display sportsmanship AFTER the game. Too many fights while shaking hands that they changed the rules. Did you know in women's hockey, they still shake after the game? We still do for baseball as well. I know I sound like a huge pussy, but I do think that's kind of sad. That all said, I'm a hockey dad who spends copious amounts of time in arenas these days and even just watching it, my blood boils when someone cheap shots a kid - and if it's ever against my kid, it takes everything in my bones not to turn into a raging lunatic. I remember being happy this weekend when #7 got hit from behind in the boards (he was fine - thankfully), because that little prick has been running around trying taking dirty shots at our players all game. That night I spoked a joint and was reflecting on the game - and I felt like such a moron. There's just something about hockey that brings out the absolute worst in people. Reilly deserves a lot of games. He ought to have just dropped the gloves and grabbed him instead.

He ought to have just dropped the gloves and grabbed him instead. Or...learn to control his temper and channel it into something positive. Instead, he's going to leave his team shorthanded for however many games. Who do the Leafs even have that can step in and play D at the NHL level in the system? And I know, i know. I played hockey too and had my share of becoming unhinged in the moment. It happens. It's understandable that the emotions run wild, but it doesn't excuse the response.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 Couple big swings here Jonn, but you look like Javy Baez swinging at a 58' curveball. Nothing wrong with slapping the puck hard home and icing the game. People are acting like he rode his hockey stick like a Cowboy and taunted the bench. Morgan Reilly’s reaction was childish and he’s clearly very sensitive but don’t think he should be suspended. I have seen players get away with much worse. Players really need to stop being a spas and hitting each other with sticks. Think the league needs stricter drug testing. These guy’s might not be juicing but I feel a lot of them are on TRT and explains the anger.

It was the angle that "players have missed before trying to guide it in". That isn't false, but that happens like 0.1% of the time and is not justification to slap it in. I think the players need to stop being such snowflakes. So what he slapped it home. That's like getting mad when someone hits a game winning HR and stomps on home plate. That doesn't give anyone the right to try and injure them and cross check them in the face. Control you anger. It is interesting though...we can't even ask players to shake hand after a game anymore - eliminating a long time show of sportsmanship. Then we all act surprised when the younger generation doesn't display sportsmanship on the ice. Reilly 100% deserves a long suspension.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 Its funny because I think Greig's play actually in a way adds energy to the game. Hockey now a days is missing a lot of the energy/fire it had in the 90s/2000s. Half the games now are complete snoozefests. I don't have a problem with Reilly going after him, he shouldn't have gotten the stick up which is why he is getting suspended but its not like Todd Bertuzzi or Mcsorely bad.

Leafs need a Greig or two. Kadri was on the greasy side and should never have moved him. Tucker was a rat like Greig. Leafs need those pieces of s*** that get under the other teams skin and gets in their heads. Greig did exactly what he's supposed to do. And Rielly did exactly what he was supposed to do. OK...a cross check to the head is never a good idea, but going over and engaging him with a fist or something would've been the better play.

I think your bang on. Leafs have been soft for a while, and I think there would be a bigger problem if no one did anything. Gary Roberts was another guy like that who could be a pest but actually had talent. And I'm not a leafs fan but live in Toronto so hear about the team a lot, and still go to a few games a year.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 Greig as a rookie is at 0.5 points per game, +19 on a below .500 club and he's a rare throwback who plays with a true edge. He's going to have a long career as one of those guys you love to have on your team and hate playing against.

Greig and Tkachuk are going to drive people nuts.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 I can see why Leafs fans don't want Reilly suspended. Him missing 5 or 6 games could be huge. Leafs are only 4 points from being outside of the playoffs which is crazy considering how stacked that Forward core is.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 (edited) Marner, Tavares, Reilly and Timmins out tonight. Welp... Reilly suspended 5 games, he'll appeal and drop to 4 I believe. Edited February 13, 2024 by Spanky99
