I think we are still on pace for low nineties wins? Teams with that true talent win divisions all the time (they get lucky or play above themselves) and teams have won the World Series with less wins than that. So, I don’t think the preseason predictions were that far off.

We’ve had some but every team has some. It’s more that other teams seem to be able to put together 6-8 guys who all throw either hard or funky, and they can reliably teach guys different pitches. I don’t necessarily think Pearson is a failure, it’s mostly injuries. Zeuch wasn’t talented imo. The problem is we have to hang onto the duds way too long because we don’t have anyone else coming. At the trade deadline, we make brad hand deals where the upside is just getting his mojo back instead of Holmes like deals where we identify hidden upside. I don’t know… it’s all really tired and average and nowhere near cutting edge. I look at the mariners with absolute jealousy and they turned it around in that area REALLY quickly. It’s been 6 years.

The difference is Yankees pitching dev and design is absolutely Uber elite and we are like above average at best. They could spend 70m less and still have a low 90s projected win team every year. They are amazing at pitching development. We aren’t. I absolutely believe in the talent of our hitters and I think they are good enough for a few playoff runs. I think this is a good front office. However, they’ve been in charge for 6 years and we are still behind tons of teams when it comes to this. Where are our bullpen success stories? Where are the guys who learned a new pitch and are lights out? How come whenever I hear a smart baseball dude talk about pitching dev they NEVER mention us? I consume a lot of fantasy related stuff and the smart guys in that field talk about the rays, Yankees, astros, mariners and never us. It’s been 6 years. Maybe this is changing behind the scenes and it takes a few years. Also, even good pitching dev teams have off bullpen years. But it’s every year with us. We suck at this aspect of the game.

Harder to come back when Espinal gets called out on strikes twice on balls off the plate.

Anyone who draws anything from this game other than we are getting absolutely screwed is insane.

Is that a thing? Like do teams that win the World Series tend to have better records against over 500 teams than teams that don’t?

I haven’t seen such a clear screw job in a long time. Taillon gets out of his jam with a clear ball and then he calls multiple strikes balls, a clear swing is called a not swing and multiple balls closer than the one Taillon got are called balls. It’s like 101 on how to grind down a pitcher into giving up a big hit. It’s complete ********.

Those are strikes for them and balls for us. It’s complete ********. We are having a great pitching performance being completely f***ed by the umps, and ramping up his f***ing pitch count. This is complete f***ing ********.

If you can locate a fastball upstairs, it seems like biggio is an auto out.

Ump f***ed us there. Yankees are a great team but you don’t win as many games as they have without some ump luck and fielding luck sprinkled in. They’ve been getting the rub of the green all season.

It’s pointless complaining about Bo’s approach as he does so much damage, but we will go into double plays all day swinging at that pitch on an 0-1 count. I’m starting to think that for most players, GIDPs and launch angle is often more approach than anything.

If he had an option year left, I doubt they’d care about burning one option. You get 5 per option year I think. If you had to send him down 5 times, just cut him.

Richards doesn’t have options. He can’t be sent down.

What makes we wonder about this is that it’s a conscious choice. We don’t emphasize the pen at all when it comes to use of resources. Our front office isn’t stupid so that must be on purpose. What makes me a little worried is what it says about our pitching dev, acquisitions and or game planning. We should have been able to develop more of our own by now. It’s been 6 years. Other teams fluctuate year to year but they always show signs of purpose. They teach their pitchers the same pitches, we see drastic changes in this pitcher or that pitcher. Of course, this could be a problem they’ve already realized and right now they are rectifying it but it’s worrying.

It always amazes me that people always just jump right past the ‘how good are their pitchers compared to ours in this game’ and go right to ‘we just need a firmer hand in the clubhouse’. Like, why not go for the obvious stuff first? Lol.. Give Charlie the Yankees bullpen, give it a few months and then let’s figure out if we need a firmer hand in the clubhouse.

To defend charlie… people who think that it matters if he calls it a big series or not are … not super reasonable people? Let’s keep the manager who like all managers doesn’t make THAT much of a difference and concentrate on not having the worst bullpen in the division.

I don’t expect those things to happen. I just mean that you can win a surprising amount of games scoring 3 runs but you aren’t winning almost any conceding 12.
