  1. I’d like to see an Alex Bregman type deal. Astros basically bought out all his arb years, but in exchange for guaranteed term he gave up a free agent year. Either way, great news to see them avoid arbitration.
  2. This is a fantastically structured deal for the Jays, especially given we're going to be keeping tabs on his recovery and rehab all season. The Jays will know exactly where he's at health-wise at all times, and if the stuff, spin, and velo are showing signs of returning. Exercising 3-years/$27M for a reliever of Green's calibre is a no-brainer, if healthy. Particularly after the reliever market spiked up this offseason.
  3. Orioles are so dumb. Coming off a season where they took a major leap forward, and instead of signing some legit pitchers they're like nah - here's Kyle Gibson and Cole Irvin instead. Basically wasting a pre-arb year of Gunnar and Adley. Even if you do believe Grayson Rodriguez to be immediately good or Kyle Bradish to improve, that's even more incentive to go out and get a good pitcher or two since you'd theoretically be closer to playoff contention. Happy that a division rival hasn't improved, but would be furious if I was an O's fan.
  4. Only 1 Jay in the MLB.com Top 100 (Tiedemann).
  5. Yeah, seems like everything is paywalled now. Used to be that you could view the chats for free, but that's changed
  6. Can someone who has access post the Baseball-America Jay Top 10 (plus the chat?)
  7. Gut feeling, but Vlad hasn’t been the guy out to maximize his value at every stop (like Bo). He never complained about the service time manipulation. He never rejected pre-arb raises. He never has been to an arb hearing. He’s made it publicly known that he wants to stay long term, multiple times in fact. He understands to get a deal done at this point, both sides will have to meet in the middle. Like I think if you offer him $300M over 10 years today with some opt outs, he probably takes it. I think that’s a pretty good middle ground.
  8. Contracts are only going to get more expensive. If they're already getting priced out of the market, that's not really a good sign.
  9. Unfortunately for them, instead of using free agency/trades to address their gaps like we did to supplement their young core, they've done nothing. They're #28th in projected SP WAR (with Grayson Rodriguez), 19th in projected bullpen WAR, and 14th in batting WAR. They could've signed Carlos Rodon, Carlos Correa, & Jameson Taillon, and still had a bottom half payroll. But their only move this offseason is adding Kyle Gibson, who will probably just replace Jordan Lyle's production. They're not a 100 loss team at this point. I would be hesitant to call them wildcard contenders though. Still a lot of holes on that roster. And purely from a fans perspective, it sucks because you want to maximize the pre-arb years on Rusthcman and Henderson. The clock is ticking on them already before they can start using their raises as an excuse for not spending.
  10. I think I found my favorite guy besides Enmanuel Bonilla in this signing period. Daniel Perez, left handed OF/1B. Little bit of a hitch in his swing, but otherwise it's smooth. The power seems legit.
  11. Or they had a trade lined up for Bo if they signed Bogaerts.
  12. Given our preference to draft players who play up the middle, the bat for Bonilla must be real special for them to give such a massive bonus for a corner OF.
  13. He still will. Him and Brandon Belt have Yankee killer written all over them.
  14. That’s a very very wide spread for Arb1.
  15. Ohtani is, but Soto won’t be until after the 2024 season. Upcoming free agency class is looking a little thin. Ohtani, Machado, and that’s kinda it.
  16. Great thread by Chris Black (Sportsnet content producer) on Ricky Tiedemann Never noticed it before, but his windup is almost a complete replica of Chris Sales.
  17. It’s actually kinda crazy how unlucky Gausman got with his BABIP last year. It was historical levels of unluckiness. Like if he just posts a league average BABIP, he’s probably giving Verlander a run for his money for Cy Young.
  18. According to Fangraphs: Yankees - 52.9 WAR (1st in MLB) Rays - 50.0 WAR (5th in MLB) Blue Jays - 49.5 WAR (6th in MLB) Red Sox - 39.4 WAR (18th in MLB) Orioles - 35.9 WAR (21st in MLB) I like our offseason, and a couple WAR between the Yankees/Jays is not enough of a difference to say they're definitely better since there is generally variance when translating WAR to wins. I'd like another RHH bench bat and decently impactful SP in an ideal world though. We're already over the luxury tax and almost hitting the 2nd tier. Might as well go all in lol.
  19. I was wondering why the Rays ranked so highly in total team projected WAR, so I decided to take a closer look: Jose Siri - 2.9 WAR Jonathan Aranda - 1.6 WAR Christian Bethancourt - 2.1 WAR That's uh...bullish to say the least on those 3. They were not a good offensive team last year and have basically made no moves to address it. They lost Ji-Man Choi who was one of their better hitters. I suppose Wander Franco and Brandon Lowe bouncing back will help, but it's still a pretty meh offense.
  20. You have Springer/Vladdy/Bo/Varsho who have aggressive approaches and will look to do damage at the top of the order. Then you have a higher OBP profiles in Kirk/Jansen/Belt/Chapman who still have really good pop. You've got legitimate speedy guys in Merrifield, Kiermaier, & Biggio and have enough options to play matchups with them if they're on the bench. The defense barring Bichette should be exceptional. We legitimately might have the best OF defense in the majors next year. Baserunning will be much improved. I dunno, this might be the most versatile Jays lineup I've seen in my years of watching (started in 2005). Our overall team wRC+ might end up being slightly down, but I think we end up scoring the same amount of runs, if not more. We're gonna be aggressive taking the extra bases & stealing.
  21. A’s or Nats are my bet.
  22. Julian Merryweather DFA’d to make room for Brandon Belt. End of an era.
  23. Missing Bowden Francis who is pitching incredibly well in the Venezuelan league, Thomas Hatch, and Yosver Zulueta. Then you have some wildcards in Hayden Juenger, Trent Palmer, Sem Robberse, Jimmy Robbins who would have to knock the door down to earn a 40-man spot, but all of them are probably going to be in AAA to start the season. Not many rotations have someone the calibre of Berrios slotted in their #4, so I really like that. Decent depth behind that.
