  1. I've also seen it suggested that the long term slog and financial sacrifice required for many players to even make the majors is a factor as well. For the elite black athletes they can step straight out of college onto an NFL football field or NBA basketball court, so for the poor inner city athlete the idea of toiling in the minor leagues as a career choice to be paid below poverty level wages isn't much of a way to raise themselves and by association their families out of poverty.
  2. I see you've decided to go by the "if you can't beat them join them" motto. 😁
  3. If all the old fat out of shape baseball umpires were told to stay home I don't think there wouldn't be anybody left to call the games.
  4. Stay classy Connor.
  5. I would guess the 0.341% describes the Jays total playoff chance this year given the difficulty of their schedule.
  6. The Jays have plenty to offer a young draftee as well, the organization is emerging as leaders in innovative training and coaching techniques, have a lot of very high end young talent, and are getting closer and closer to contention. The Jays have finally started to thaw out the frosty relationship with Boras after years of doing no business together, so it seems like it would be short sighted for Boras to throw all of this away over a few hundred thousand dollars.
  7. The Jays system is flush with really interesting pitching prospects right now, the current front office has done an awesome job stockpiling high ceiling young arms. What are your thoughts on Kendall Williams?
  8. How would you compare him with Eric Pardinho in terms of raw stuff and pitchability?
  9. Fair enough good sir, I shall attempt to keep the partisan sniping to appropriate venues.
  10. It's a pretty weird insult considering the western provinces are basically the countries most conservative regions politically.
  11. That's a pretty cool study, for those that haven't read the results it found that: -when contacting the sweet spot metal exit velocity outperformed wood by 8.3% -When missing the sweet spot, the bats performed similarly with metal outperforming wood by only 1.4%. -Batters were able to contact the sweet spot 57% of the time with the metal bats. This value for wood was over 10% lower at 45%. This correlates to the metal bats having a larger sweet spot as it is easier to hit.
  12. How do the modern aluminum bats being used by college players tend to compare with wooden bats for exit velocities? I'm just wondering if this is an apples to apples comparison.
  13. I can totally see the Jays getting screwed over by scheduling this year. They will have to play the majority of their games against Boston, Tampa Bay and New York, then they'll likely end up getting screwed over and having to play a bunch of games against the Braves and Phillies as well.
  14. Think of the massive surge of excitement the old school dinosaurs would get to experience with the upswing in small ball tactics. If there's anything that can be counted on to bring new fans to the sport it's absolutely the unparalleled excitement of bunts and sacrifice flies.
  15. This shows how tenuous the situation is with having baseball at all this season, both spring training states of Florida and Arizona are having sharp increases in coronavirus cases recently.
  16. I think expanding playoffs would likely be good for the overall health of baseball as it would provide incentive for more teams to actually attempt to compete instead of tanking.
  17. We could maybe wait until Martin has even a single professional at bat before we start directly comparing him to a hall of famer.
  18. OMFG somebody pinch me I must be dreaming! Such a perfect pick for the Jays!
  19. How would you personally rank the guys who are likely to be available in the number 5 draft slot?
  20. Any one of these guys is going to be a very exciting acquisition for the minor league system. If the Jays end up picking Meyer I'm pumped to see what he can accomplish when using the pitching lab in the minor league complex.
  21. I wonder how service time accrual would work for taxi squad members? If you were to start the service clocks early for so many key prospects it might be reason not to include some of these guys.
  22. Giants just missed out on the opportunity to draft Brian Matusz.
  23. If the owners are legitimately better off financially not having a season vs paying players half their salaries with no fans in the seats, and the players don't feel like risking virus exposure is worth it for a further wage reduction, it's becoming difficult to see how the two sides are going to be able to compromise to allow any sort of season to proceed. But they seriously both need to grow up and stop negotiating through the media to garner public favor and get down to work on trying to rescue some sort of season if we are to have any hope of baseball in 2020.
  24. If he wants to make a stand and not get paid anything I guess that's his prerogative. I wonder how many other players have a similar mindset?
