    Moving Bo off short stop isn't going to magically fix the defensive miscues unfortunately. He's had trouble handling balls cleanly and ends up having to rush his throws a good chunk of the time. This will continue to cause exactly the same issues whether he's at short, third or second base. Maybe a position move has him handling the ball less often though.

    23 seems awfully early to suggest as a defensive peak for players. According to this article, which uses Defensive Runs saved data, MLB players peak defensively around age 26.     A guy with potential like Merryweather isn't somebody on the edge of the 40 man roster. It's no coincidence that the front office has been talking him up since acquisition, he showed his elite stuff last season when healthy and has continued that into 2021. There are always bubble guys on the 40 man who are DFA fodder, Merryweather has never been close to that as a Blue Jay.

    That's not remotely true. Merryweather was a guy with top notch stuff but coming off Tommy John surgery. Gaviglio is the only roster filler of the two.

    I doubt he'll see a lot of playing time with Riley Adams there this season. He makes for a decent depth catcher though in case one of Jansen or Kirk goes down though.

    Yeah that Morales deal was pure s***, it seems like the Jays missed the memo on handing out big contracts to one dimensional DH types that offseason. Rumors have it that Morales and Gurriel were a bit of a package deal though so in the long run maybe it was worth it. The Jays somehow managed to turn Morales into international bonus pool money, which allowed them to sign Yosver Zulueta. So instead of Edwin they eventually end up with Nate Pearson, Gurriel and Zulueta. Nice tidy piece of business there.

    Lots of good points here. Only thing I'd disagree with is the Jays being better off if Edwin stayed, they ended up turning the compensation pick into Nate Pearson

    I think the idea is to stash Espinal as depth for when the inevitable injuries hit. Panik had an opt-out so there's a bit of asset management at play here as well as Espinal still has options remaining.

    If second half of 2020 Panik is the guy that shows up this year he makes a pretty decent infield utility option as well, we just have to hope Charlie doesn't play him nearly everyday again despite having multiple better options available this season. In his last 24 games Panik put up a reasonable 114 WRC+ and 0.5 FWAR. Of course there's every chance this might be the results he obtains during an unsustainable hot streak though and most of the time he's the same replacement level player seen in 2018/2019.

    I'd venture that Warmoth needs to first prove that he can put up results in games that actually count for something before we anoint him as the major league utility man. It's nice to see that he might be resurrecting a career that looked to be quickly swirling down the toilet. I'd also like to see if Kevin Smith can start to tame down his strikeout issues a bit, I think there's enough tools otherwise (good raw power, good arm and glove, decent speed) that he too could turn himself into a good utility man.

    Hooray bad AL East injury news that finally isn't a Jays player. Although it's been a bit of a tough year for AL East contenders with season long bullpen losses. Yankees lost Britton, Jays lost Yates and now Anderson for the Rays. All three teams still have pretty stout looking pens even without these guys though.

    If you're doctoring the ball with foreign substances I'm not really sure how you can go about removing the evidence afterwards though. Especially given how many balls are utilized in a typical MLB game.

    They should definitely take their time on this one. I've had oblique issues in the past, and it's super easy to aggravate the area doing menial easy tasks and be right back at square one. Besides, they have 3 starting quality MLB outfielders available until Springer is healed up, and Jonathan Davis has a nice 4th outfielder toolset.

    Were you actually paying attention to what was said about Vladdy Jr. by management when he was held back? He was said to need to work on baserunning, defense and conditioning. All three were obvious issues when he made his debut, which completely validated what Atkins stated he needed to work on. Even the touted MLB ready bat still led to a player who went through prolonged struggles at times. This wasn't a player who was fully formed and ready for prime time such as Kris Bryant, this was a young immature kid with precocious talent but poor routines that needed further refinement in every aspect of his game.

    They'll be able to field half a lineup full of mediocre former Blue Jays players.

    That's making the grand assumption that Shoemaker would actually be healthy heading into the playoffs.

    It's a really small sample size as a reliever though and was exclusively back before the blister and shoulder issues hit. It's entirely possible that Sanchez sucks both as a starter and a reliever.

    I believe he's on record as wanting to sign as a starter. If the guy can figure out the blister issues maybe he can resurrect his career, but I wouldn't take that bet.

    He has shown flashes of potential with the bat. But if he doesn't get past his fielding issues he's limited to a DH only profile, and his bat up to this point isn't nearly good enough for him to provide any value in that capacity.

    Derek Fisher absolutely deserves a chance to sort out his fielding issues somewhere, I just don't see a fit for a severely limited player like this on a team that has designs of contending.

    I was sort of hoping the Jays would be the team that signed him to a two year deal while he rehabbed. Latest I heard about Giles before this signing is that he was going to wait until he was healthy before signing a deal. I guess the Mariners must have made a nice offer that changed his mind.

    I'm looking forward to seeing how Pardinho bounces back. If his stuff returns to pre injury levels he could see his prospect status return very nicely.
