  1. Barrel percentage is way up, line drive percentage is up significantly, k rate is down 5% which is a big drop compared to his career norms, and he's swinging at a career best 29% of pitches out of the strike zone, and his swinging strike rate is a career best as well. His success is not simply due to home run luck, he's made some impressive changes right across the board after 6 full seasons in the big leagues, give the guy some credit where credit is due.
  2. I just don't really get the feeling that this team is quite ready to actually compete in the playoffs, a huge chunk of their best players are still basically rookies, and prone to rookie style mistakes a good chunk of the time. If they manage to squeak into the playoffs due to the expanded format that will be awesome, but I just find it really short sighted to send out high potential prospects for rentals in this point of their rebuild.
  3. Trading a good long term asset for a .500 team to gain 6 starts is absolute insanity. If Bauer had control beyond this year I could see building a package including Kloff for sure, but I just can't see the Jays are close enough to actually competing in the playoffs for that to be a wise move.
  4. Just imagine the shitstorm that will ensue if any NFL games end up being cancelled because of police shootings in the future.
  5. I'd hope you aren't remotely serious about a barely 20 year old pitcher being washed up because he struggled a bit in the independent leagues against players who are likely 5-10 years older than he is.
  6. Damn looks like top of the rotation stuff so far, maybe all the gushing Atkins did upon acquiring the guy was actually warranted.
  7. Only other guy I can think of off the top of my head with this kind of separation is prime Fernando Rodney.
  8. I'd like to see this as well, he looks to have a good quality starter repertoire, but he hasn't worked a starters workload since 2017. I sort of wonder if a Chad Green/Andrew Miller fireman type of role might be a good use of his skills.
  9. Yeah he's been pretty much directly asking for it.
  10. Anyone that throws a baseball for a living is a perpetual injury risk.
  11. Anderson is still building up his arm strength to allow for higher pitch counts. On a team with only three healthy starters at the moment surely you can understand why the coaching staff would feel the need to be cautious with one of their few remaining starters.
  12. Yeah pretty discouraging news, from my limited research recovery times can range from anywhere from 2 weeks up to 6 to 8 weeks depending on the severity of the injury. The following article had some interesting tidbits that may help to explain why Pearson's command was off so much this season. https://www.inovanewsroom.org/expert-commentary/2016/09/outside-the-strike-zone-what-is-a-flexor-mass-strain/
  13. If you look at Font's game logs he had actually been pitching reasonably well leading up to last night's game, but why he was given so much leash when he clearly didn't have it is the bigger offense.
  14. I don't know if it's been mentioned but the home plate umpire gets a huge assist in Boston's win last night. The Boston starter got the benefit of a massive strike zone with multiple pitches well off the plate called for strikes, and in my view the game totally turned around at the moment Vazquez received a reprieve when instead of being called out on strike 3 was given a chance to continue his at bat instead. Maybe Font still melts down afterwards anyway, but we'll never know for sure.
  15. By statcast Teoscar has actually been slightly unlucky, his expected WOBA is .411 vs his actual WOBA of .394. He's been destroying baseballs for 4 months straight now, I would argue he's already figured things out to a large degree.
  16. Nice to see Grichuk in the lineup today.
  17. No surprise Law hasn't been able to get another front office job when he doubles down on terrible opinions like this one.
  18. Damn that's tough, I guess it boils down to how badly you want to compete this season. Clevinger's ugly early numbers would cause me some concern as to what version of him you are going to be obtaining.
  19. Removing Teoscar will be downgrading the squad quite significantly though, it's not like the teams minor league system is filled with great outfield prospects to insert in his place. On an offensively challenged team like the Jays removing their second best bat up to this point would be a huge loss. If you think people complain about Teoscar's misadventures wait until Fisher gets some actual playing time in the outfield.
  20. That still leaves the team with only 3 outfielders available though, unless you think McKinney is a suitable backup.
  21. Moreno could very well end up being the best of the crop of catching prospects in the Jays system, to move him I would hope it's for a high end player in return.
  22. I think you're a fool picking a fight with a newly minted mod that's well on your way to earning yourself a timeout.
  23. I like Kevin pillar as a 4th outfielder acquisition. He seems to have made a massive improvement to his plate discipline up to this point in the season. Even if he reverts to his old hacking ways he would still be a great addition to a squad that lacks a proper defensive replacement in the outfield. Added bonus is not having to shift Biggio to the outfield as a defensive replacement and having Panik get more playing time as a result.
  24. Awesome win for the boys. Gurriel is amazing in left field, it's astounding how quickly he gets off his throws from the outfield, but despite the rapid transfer he fires accurate bullet throws almost every time. It's encouraging to see his bat heating up as well. Cavan Biggio is amazing, his diving play at 2nd base showed some serious range, and he's been a very steadying presence at the top of the lineup. Jordan Romano has the prototypical crazed closer look to him, he's very fun to watch. If this team can somehow find some starting pitching they could be an actual threat once Bo comes back.
  25. Yeah nothing to get excited about, but given the acquisition cost (basically nothing) it's hard to complain.
