  1. It looks like to me that he is simply resuming where he left off last season. Ever since his call-up last year in June he's been on a total tear with the bat. Hopefully he can keep this up long term.
  2. I've come to the conclusion that Montoyo isn't placing enough urgency on winning the ball-game that his team is currently engaged in, in a normal season where each individual game isn't as important and where the Jays likely wouldn't have a chance at the playoffs that would be fine. But with expanded playoffs and a shortened 60 game season it would be nice if we would actually be willing to pull out all the stops to maximize his team's chances of winning each individual game instead of trying to worry about who is pitching tomorrows game.
  3. I can handle the bullpen shenanigans since the season is young and the starters are still on lower pitch counts, but the in-game strategy is f***ing indefensible. Fisher had a free 90 feet available to him, there is basically no way the Nationals would have even thrown through to second base as there was a very fast runner at third base already. And the two strike bunt is just ridiculous, it would be interesting to see how much these two decisions lowered the Jays run expectation in the 8th inning last night.
  4. This game was a disaster at the end like so many games at the Trop over the years. I was very encouraged by Thomas Hatch, he has pretty high end stuff, and was pretty much as advertised. If he doesn't stick as a starter this season the stuff should play very well in the bullpen, he could replace Sam Gavliglio as a jack of all trades reliever who can actually get some outs. Kay performed nicely as well. Too bad to see Giles melt down at the end and get left in the game despite something obviously being off with him in this outing.
  5. Yeah that's pretty inexcusable to say the least. I recall in one of the Boston games that Gavilglio was being mentioned by Montoyo as a high leverage reliever and didn't think that could possibly be true.
  6. Nice win for the boys there, the Dolis outing had me sweating bullets though. Ryu's command wasn't great tonight but thankfully the bats backed him up with some solid run support.
  7. Hey come on man, if I can't take myself seriously then how can I expect others to take me seriously either? This is like existential level stuff.
  8. You know you're the last person on here that can start to call out other posters for racist posting right? I just so happen to think that Teoscar (Dominican guy) and Gurriel (Cuban born) are both better options going forward than Puig.
  9. Your beautiful soliloquy has me totally convinced that the Jays should bring Puig aboard. He is exactly the kind of solid veteran that we want to sign to really show Vladdy Jr. the proper way to be a pro. Get yourself a nice contract and then you can just coast the rest of your career. While he's at it he could teach the young Jays the best ways to start dust-ups with the opposition as well. A lazy unmotivated dude like Puig would fit in perfectly with super driven guys like Bo Bichette and Nate Pearson.
  10. I don't imagine Boxy to be quite this handsome though.
  11. You likely wouldn't want the top teams to sit for too long with no game action given how timing and rhythm oriented the game of baseball is.
  12. Looks like Bo might be able to stick at shortstop after all.
  13. There's conversely also the thing where we don't assume players going through an obvious decline over several seasons are suddenly going to resume past production. Both players have similar projections at this point, so to suggest that Puig is magically going to outwar Hernandez by 1.5-2 WAR is pretty fantastical thinking.
  14. This is completely incorrect, Teoscar Hernandez matched Puig in WAR last year despite receiving 150 fewer plate appearances.
  15. Sounds like he could continue his baseball career as a live action batting practice pitcher.
  16. One theory I saw floated was that Grichuk attempted to trade a bit of power for more contact. According to Statcast his hard hit and barrels percentage in particular took a sharp dropoff for some reason, so whatever he was doing differently really didn't work out for him.
  17. I really don't get the pining for Puig that goes on around here. The guy has admitted publicly that he is lazy and doesn't put in maximum effort towards improving his craft. It's no surprise that he hasn't found a taker yet when you combine the past character issues along with the fact that he simply isn't that good anymore.
  18. It's interesting how baseball economics have reached the point where a 300 million dollar contract extension offer is considered to be an insult.
  19. Jesus Charlie keep Panik the hell away from the outfield, there's enough available outfielders on the damn roster that need playing time that a slap hitting infielder shouldn't be playing instead.
  20. All your necessary information is contained in here, tweet embedding information is at the bottom of the page: https://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/misc.php?do=bbcode
  21. Tonight's game should be fun to watch with the scheduled pitching lineup.
  22. This classic Alex Rios video seems pertinent at the moment:
  23. You answered your own question already. Having the Jays players and coaches fly in one time and having them effectively quarantine in their hotel for a month is certainly different than having a new team and staff flying in several times a week.
  24. Hard to see how baseball teams fit into the category of essential travel, especially given the stated rules that rule out allowing tourism, recreation or entertainment workers.
  25. Romano looked similarly excellent during his first pre-injury callup last season, I figured at the time he was a ready to insert closer candidate for when Giles was traded. But then Giles elbow prevented him from being traded and Romano didn't look the same later on in the year after returning, so that totally went out the window.
