  1. And his playoff sample was very similar, in which he hit very well in his first 5 games of the post season and then cooled off dramatically after that.
  2. I find I'm spending a ton of time refreshing Blue Jays Reddit recently as it's a good repository for Blue Jays related news and Tweets.
  3. To be fair Moreno did end the season on a very positive note as he produced a 146 wRC+ over the last 3 months/168 plate appearances. This is a pretty small sample size though and it remains to be seen if he can keep this up over a full season of play when dealing with the rigors of playing behind the plate and with the league having the opportunity to make adjustments. For comparisons sake Davis Schneider produced a 176 wRC+ over 141 plate appearances and he started to struggle once the opposition was able to poke holes in his overall plate approach.
  4. One can dare to dream but I'm trying my best (it's becoming increasingly difficult) to avoid getting overly excited about Ohtani.
  5. As opposed to religion which is much better?
  6. Good thing the Jays have one catcher who averaged 121 wRC+ over the last 3 seasons (Jansen), and another who averaged 113 wRC+ over the last 3 seasons (Kirk).
  7. Moreno has a career wRC+ value of 104 in the regular season. This barely above league average offensive performer is the guy you are absolutely losing your mind over. Varsho has a career wRC+ value of 96. This is a whopping 8 point difference.
  8. The guy's brain is missing the logic center, all he's capable of is firing off a stream of emotional overreactions.
  9. Moreno didn't tear things up in the playoffs, he ended with a 100 wRC+, placing him 40th among all players who played in the post season. This was only 5th on the Diamonbacks behind Pham who ended up 103 wRC+. This is remarkably close to Daulton Varsho's 96 wRC+ career value who you are calling a throwaway player, yet for Moreno you are acting like he's Aaron Judge behind the plate.
  10. I'm surprised he didn't call you a liberal/Trudeau supporter as that seems to be the go to argument for this type of poster.
  11. Prime Kevin Pillar's best season was a full win lower than Varsho's best season up to this point. Pillar's second best season of his entire career was worse than Varsho's worst season to date where Varsho played primarily in left field. It's easy to justify the Varsho trade. All 3 of the Jays catchers had serious question marks that would limit their potential returns and the team chose the best offer they received. It's not rocket science. Moreno spent several seasons with a Kevin Pillar type of bat (lots of hit but very few walks and extra base hits) but behind the plate, Kirk is shaped like the baseball version of Danny Devito and Jansen simply can't stay healthy. Instead of fixating on the prospect ranking value of Moreno which has zero worth in determining his actual trade value, take an objective look at what he could have been reasonably expected to provide offensively in MLB when faced with superior pitching and defenses.
  12. You fail to realize how valuable a truly elite center field defender with a league average bat is. If he takes a bit of a step forward with the bat he could fire off 5+ win seasons akin to what Devon White provided during his career.
  13. Maybe Rogers is going full in on creating a Japanese super team to completely corner the Japanese media market.
  14. His down season at the plate was entirely a direct result of struggles against right handed pitching at home only. His career splits show him to be slightly above average against right handed pitchers for his career, so this is most likely something that's going to be a weird single year anomaly.
  15. Because he's a reactionary doofus that constantly shoots from the hip and offers zero insight to back up his opinions.
  16. Varsho in center field is almost certainly a far more valuable player than either Grisham or Kiermaier. Go back the last 3 seasons of play since Varsho converted to the outfield and compare his numbers as a center fielder to Grisham and Kiermaier. In 1574 plate appearances Grisham provided 6.3 FWAR, or 2.2 WAR/550 plate appearances. In 1011 plate appearances Kiermaier provided 5.9 FWAR, or 3.22 WAR/550 plate appearances. In 480 plate appearances Varsho provided 3.8 FWAR, or 4.75 WAR/550 plate appearances. You are simply placing far too much emphasis on a single down season at the plate where Varsho was playing in a much less valuable defensive position. There's no guarantee his best in baseball defensive metrics will fully translate over a full season of play in center field as he's yet to spend a full season out there, but if they do he is going to be a really valuable player even if he struggles with the bat a bit.
  17. Why not? If the team is offering mega bucks for a prospective contract it's perfectly reasonable for him to meet with the team.
  18. If Alek put up huge numbers in AAA including a full return of his stuff (assuming of course he didn't throw a hissy fit and refuse to report) he would likely rebuild a lot of trade value.
  19. How do numbers lie? All of the available numbers point to Varsho being an elite outfield defender who has typically provided around league average offense. He would have been the Blue Jays most valuable player in 2022 if he were employed with the team at that point, which is kind of a big deal considering the team had players like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and Matt Chapman.
  20. Chapman actually came within inches of putting the Blue Jays ahead in each game of the playoffs as he flied out the wall in deep center field and narrowly missed extra bases down the third base line by an even shorter distance. I'll agree that Chapman returning would feel an awful lot like a consolation prize compared to the other names available this offseason.
  21. Second base in easily covered by some combination of Schneider, Biggio and Espinal assuming all 3 are still on the roster come spring time. I don't really think the organization has anyone suited for full time play at third base for next season, although Biggio looked surprisingly competent in his stint there in 2023. Perhaps Palemgiani, Barger and Orelvis could be future options, but Barger has been spending an increasing amount of time in right field, and Orelvis has been spending a lot of time at second base so it doesn't appear the organization is sold on either of these guys as long term third base options. I do think Roden has a great shot to be the left fielder of the future as the dude has done nothing but hit at every stop along the way, but I'd hope the organization would bring in a more proven hitter for full time duty in the chance that Roden isn't able to produce in MLB at this point of his career.
  22. Atkins went on record stating that it was very unlikely they would have been able to sign Ohtani and also trade for Soto in the same offseason. The "trash bag" that was traded for has historically been a 4 win center fielder over his career. Sooner or later you would think that a certain segment of the fanbase would clue in that Moreno simply wasn't valued enough by other front offices to bring a superstar back in return.
  23. I see you aren't particularly good with numbers. Chapman posted better numbers than Moncada in 3 out of the 6 months of the season. The wRC+ split between the two month by month: April +76 Chapman May +14 Moncada June +71 Chapman July +134 Chapman August +57 Moncada September +70 Moncada Chapman had 3 months where he was dramatically better than Moncada, vs Moncada who was dramatically better in 2 months. There was a single month where they posted relatively similar numbers.
