  1. Yeah it's hard to envision any scenario where the team can sign all 3 guys unless they are willing to hit Cohen tax territory.
  2. Once again you can't understand a very simple concept. Chapman is something like 3 years removed from his hip surgery, that's simply a thing of the past with no relevance at this stage. You literally called his season pukeworthy when he provided a tiny bit less value to the team over the season. Varsho provided more value in 2023 compared to Moreno, yet you act like he's a future hall of famer and Varsho is a scrub. You are basically the Sid Sexeiro of this board, yet completely devoid of even the basic knowledge of sports to the table.
  3. Absolutely he was a very solid poster that provided a lot of unique content to the board.
  4. This would be a great point if the singular reason the high performance department existed was strictly for getting fat players into shape in the offseason. It's too bad the department does absolutely nothing for load managing and injury management for the team's players, they should mothball it immediately.
  5. What he provided this season was almost exactly in line with what he provided over the previous two seasons. It's not my fault you choose to conjure up completely unrealistic expectations.
  6. You are so stupid I'm almost beginning to feel sorry for you. If you seriously think a 10% drop equals a massive disappointment then I'd suggest you should consider recalibrating your expectations.
  7. Yay another nonsense hot take. You're on a massive roll today posting stupid s***. Chapman posted a 4.1 FWAR in 2021 (3.9 WAR/600 plate appearances), a 4.2 WAR in 2022 (4.06 WAR/600 plate appearances), and a 3.5 FWAR in 2023 (3.61 WAR/600 plate appearances). The 2023 drop saw him play in 15 fewer games than 2022 due to a finger injury, and the injury noticably hampered upon his return. But here you are calling it pukeworthy because he experienced a whopping 10% drop in his relative performance.
  8. Of course the wild card series of the playoffs is real playoffs, just as the division series is, it just happens sooner and the series is only a best of 3.. This would be like saying that the wild card round in the NFL isn't real playoffs either which is completely asinine. I get that you don't like the current front office but there's no need to make s*** up to create imaginary standards to judge them by.
  9. What are you on about? How in the f*** are games in the wild card round of the playoffs not playoff games?
  10. I think Atkins has been fine as a GM (not perfect so Jaysblue don't get your panties in a knot), Schneider has accumulated one of the team's highest ever winning percentages so it's not like he's the worst manager ever (although he's made his share of baffling decisions), Mattingly is about to take over as hitting strategist so I'll wait until he actually performs the job before passing judgement (shocking I know to not jump to conclusions), Guillermo oversaw one of MLB's best offenses in 2 of the last 3 seasons so he's been fine, and the high performance department department has done a fantastic job largely keeping the team's players healthy and on the field (it's not their fault the team has a bunch of bad bodied players who don't seem to want to utilize the resources available to them).
  11. Shapiro has done everything and more you could ask for in performing the duties you would expect from a team president. There should be exactly zero risk of this man losing his job at any point in the near future unless he morphs into the evil supervillain type that he appears to be at a glance. Atkins is certainly going to find himself on the hot seat sooner or later if he doesn't eventually guide the team to more success in the playoffs, but there appears to be at least 2 more seasons in the current window for him to get the team over the hump.
  12. I read an article that suggested it was an internal brace procedure.
  13. That would be weird for a team to see something in his still healing surgically repaired ligament that would scare them off. If he failed a physical it would be the Carlos Correa situation times infinity though.
  14. I don't think the team would gain an extra win in overall value by playing Ohtani at first base vs more experienced options like Vlad, Biggio, Hortwitz etc. He would be facing a steep learning curve as it's doubtful he's played the position as a professional and would be facing an uphill battle to even become an average defender there in such a short time span. Of course Vlad was positively awful in 2023, but I suspect he will most likely be quite a bit better there in 2024.
  15. It appears as though Harper first played first base about 8 months after his surgery. If Ohtani were to come back on a similar timeline it would place his return towards the end of May. It was an internal brace procedure and not full Tommy John surgery, but I don't know how this affects the overall recovery time vs the full procedure. I know for me personally I would choose to be ultra conservative and fully protect my $600 million investment having Ohtani DH only and fully avoid sending Ohtani to the field for the entirety of 2024.
  16. There have just been too many instances of on and off the field episodes that suggest the guy is basket case.
  17. I don't think there would be any chance he'd be able to play first base unless he had strict orders to never throw the ball to the other bases. Even then I don't think it would be wise to do anything that would add to his overall workload and potentially compromise his ability to recuperate from the ligament surgery.
  18. Yeah that team's collection of young talent with an ownership group willing to offer them fair extensions and properly supplement the team through free agency is a terrifying prospect.
  19. He didn't hit for a high enough batting average.
  20. It appears as though Moreno was only viewed as an elite prospect by the internet prospect evaluators, and not valued this way by actual baseball front offices. I really don't know why you keep coming back to Soto, if Moreno was a cream of the crop elite prospect why would you want the organization to trade him for rental player? This would be shooting themselves in the foot for a short term fix.
  21. Two of these were trades, only one was a free agent.
  22. No other free agent hitters of note have signed yet, unless you are overly concerned about the team missing out on Candelario. The team simply didn't have the necessary assets to match the Yankees offer of young starting pitching unless they foolishly offered up Tiedemann and Manoah, so Soto was likely not realistically attainable.
  23. Surely you must realize that the only season of Varsho's career that counts when determining his relative value is the single season he played as a Blue Jay. Despite the down season at the plate he produced roughly similar value to Moreno. At the same time we are to ignore the fact that Gurriel had the worst offensive season on his career since his rookie season and that Moreno had a worse season than Jansen and remarkably similar season to Kirk in terms of overall value to his team.
  24. Will it be the front office's fault if Ohtani eventually signs elsewhere? It seems to me they've likely done everything within their power to convince him to join the organization to even get to this point.
