  1. Thanks for noticing, just trying to do my part.
  2. I'm just really leery of whether Paredes will continue having the type of success he enjoyed in 2023 as his expected stats are really underwhelming. I wouldn't say I'd place Tiedemann in the untouchable category but it's awfully close.
  3. I would think even a pre-eminent dumpster diver extraordinaire such as yourself would be scared away by a 40% k rate. Apparently I'm mistaken.
  4. I'm a big Alan Roden fan, I think he has a chance to be a Michael Brantley type if his AA numbers hold up.
  5. I was a fan of a Candelario value signing vs paying mega bucks to Chapman. I guess the club is far more heavily invested in retaining Chapman and decided to pass as a Candelario signing would have made a Chapman reunion completely unfeasible.
  6. This thread has certainly taken an interesting turn.
  7. Bellinger is the best remaining target in free agency but I find the massive gulf between his expected results and actual results to be very concerning. From comparing the rest of his seasons over his career his batted ball metrics and profile most closely resemble his 2020 season where he settled at a 112 wRC+. Having said that he went on an absolute tear over the second half of his season and couldn't have ended on a better note heading into free agency. His numbers are pretty eye popping over his last 85 games. .333/.375/.564 with a 6.6%BB/.13.4%K rate good for a 150 wRC+. BABIP at .337 isn't overinflated by any means either and HR/FB is at 15.4% is perfectly reasonable as well.
  8. Might be easier to just watch old JD highlights from his prime A's and Blue Jays days.
  9. Yeah IKF sticks out like a sore thumb. I'd infinitely see the club simply stick with Biggio instead of signing a mediocre target like this.
  10. It's most likely DH only for 1 season and this DH was baseball's best hitter last season. Still absolutely crazy money for sure though.
  11. Who plays enter field in this scenario? It appears as though Yelich has been converted to full time left field so unless Bellinger is signed this still leaves a sizable hole on the roster.
  12. Yeah unfortunately you can't give him a brain transplant, but hopefully if he's a little lighter he'd at least have a better chance to get back to the base in time if he's going to wander so far away.
  13. I'd hang onto Manoah at least until he's closer to free agency to see how he performs and what his conditioning looks like before shipping him off. With Vlad I would hope that eventually he clues in to the fact that he needs to be in good shape year over year if he's to create the type of legacy his talent suggests should be possible. With Kirk I'd hang onto him right throughout his team years of control as I don't think the team would ever get fair value back in return. If his body holds up over the long term catching a short term extension may even be worthwhile as he'd likely be pretty inexpensive to hang onto unless he goes full Edgar Martinez output in Danny DeVito's body offensively.
  14. I think with Vlad he's really close to posting monster numbers given the quality of contact. Hopefully being in better shape will improve his range at first base and help keep him healthier as he suffered various knee injuries during the spring and regular season.
  15. Both Vlad and Manoah have been posting a lot of videos of themselves busting their asses in the gym, and I saw a photo of Kirk where he looked like he may have slimmed down as well (tough to tell as he was wearing a loose fitting t shirt) so hopefully all three guys will experience a resurgence next year.
  16. There isn't a ready made replacement available in the system though. At that point Bo will only have a single year of remaining control so it remains to be seen what kind of trade return he could garner as well as he's probably more of a very good player that's not quite in the elite category yet.
  17. Looks like a completely straighforward calculation. Maybe I'll borrow my wife's finance calculator to tabulate the total.
  18. I think there's a good shot the Blue Jays farm system rankings will improve over the next few years as some of the highest ceiling talent is still getting their feet wet in the lower levels of the minors (Barriera, Bonilla, Nimmala).
  19. How would the luxury tax calculations work? Let's assume that Ohtani is going to be paid $35 million per season for the next 10 years, with the rest deferred over an extra 20 years or something of that sort.
  20. I'm having a bit of difficulty in understanding how this actually works. Maybe I should have joined the accounting club in school. What does discounting to present value actually mean? Is the future liability scaled somehow and added to the current year's tax value or something of that sort? Can you come up with an example with actual numbers to break this down to layman's terms a bit?
  21. Yeah that's an insane loophole if something approaching 50% of a contract is allowed to be deferred in terms of the luxury tax. I have zero issues with a team being allowed to defer payments to reduce initial cash outlay, but this type of accounting creates a massive advantage for richer teams that allows them to defer future dollars and essentially skirt the luxury tax.
  22. This "strategy" would almost certainly just end up with the prospective free agents telling the Blue Jays to take their offers and shove it up their asses and they would end up with zero of their preferred targets.
