  3. No hitter broken up for Bettis pitching against the Phillies after 7⅓ innings on a hit by Cody Asche that went against the shift.
  4. DeSclafani pitching a gem so far for the Reds. Conger just took one right off the love spuds for Houston after it ricocheted off Eaton and it looked like it really hurt. Ouch.
  5. Weird night tonight; can't remember the last time there were 5 games at 10:00pm ET. Will definitely look in on Graveman and hope he can do a job for us against the damn Yankees.
  6. Snider knocks one past Bonifacio for the game sealing RBI for the Orange Birds in the second game. Chris Beck (not to be confused with Chad Beck) looked interesting in his White Sox debut.
  7. Ah, those heady days. http://www.thestar.com/sports/baseball/2012/07/14/toronto_blue_jays_go_lugnuts_over_sanchez_syndergaard_nicolino.html
  8. I supported the Marlins trade at the time and have since recanted the folly of my ways. I was skeptical of the Dickey trade from day one and now I'm on the verge of thinking that this may just prove to be the worst trade in Blue Jays history, eclipsing even the Jeff Kent for 2 months of David Cone debacle. At least the latter trade could be slightly mitigated on the basis of a world series championship.
  9. The only person I make a conscious effort not to listen to on the radio is Brian Hayes on TSN 1050, as he is a fully paid up member of the new castrati. Seriously, my sister-in-law's female spaded dog has more balls. Other than that I accept Sportsnet for what it is, the Blue Jays equivalent of the NFL Network with corporate shill's galore. Wilner is just a small cog in that machine.
  10. Not surprised. I caught him in his first game back and his fastball had really lost any meaningful velocity; he relied on his slider/changeup most of the night which were consistently out of the strike zone. He looked exactly like I said, AAA spot duty/BP relief and I guess today was confirmation of that.
  11. No, no I won't have that. There's a place called Milwaukee and.....
  12. Detroit/Astros 4th game of the series looks to be a dandy, as does the Cardinals/Royals finale. I hate the Royals so, so much......
  13. Truthfully I enjoy following all former Blue Jays/prospects. The last crop of pitching prospects are of particular interest to me because I want to see how well we did in terms of drafting and developing talent. You can take that either way; a compliment because we might have produced so many potential major league pitchers in such a short time, or a dig at the trading away of young pitchers when we so desperately need pitching help. It's up to the individual. There is such a remarkable list to follow though: Nolin, Graveman, DeSclafani, Syndergaard, Nicolino, Wojciechowski etc. It really is astonishing considering that all of them may have a productive major league future.
  14. DeSclafani pitched a 1 run, 7 inning gem against Kluber and the Tribe - 109 pitches, 62 strikes, 6 SO, 2 BB. Graveman goes 6 scoreless innings against the Rays, 93 pitches, 59 strikes, 6 SO and 2 BB. Great job by both.
  15. If you want any kind of objective coverage on the Jays you might as well forget Sportsnet, as they work for the owners and are hardly likely to pan their own product/content. TSN will, to some extent at least, tell it like it is.
  16. DeSclafani and Graveman each pitching shutouts through 5 innings!
  17. We need to see this team for what it is. Lack of depth combined with injuries and unwarranted trade gambles have reduced us to being one of the worst franchises in baseball. Blow up the FO, coaching staff and team while we can still get a good haul for some of our assets. A trade for one good pitcher would be asinine and grossly counterproductive in this situation.
  18. I love the Jays, but I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that I'm going to adopt Detroit as my second team. This is just ********.
  19. It was 2-8 I think. Not sure now; might be 2-9 and today would be 2-10 possibly.
  20. Sorry if it came across that way; I was trying to acknowledge my error in our season to season record, but it came out badly I think. You were correct sir, we went 74-88 after the trade and had 73 wins prior. My mistake.
  21. After a good outing for Syndergaard in a loss to the Pirates yesterday, DeSclafani is up for Cincinnati today in what may be his last start for the Reds for a while if he doesn't have a good outing. Meanwhile Graveman gets a return shot with Oakland today against the Rays, while Nolin may also be on the verge of a call up shortly given the A's struggles/injuries.
  22. You're right. The trades made us one win better; my mistake.
  23. True, but this is why it was so essential we stuck to the rebuilding and restocking plan that was categorically blown up in 2012. It has been said many times on this board but a rotation of Stroman, Hutch, Syndergaard, Alvarez, Sanchez, Desclafani, Nicolino etc. etc. would have provided the controllable pitching that could have been the cornerstone of this franchise for years to come. Players wanted to come in 1992 and 1993 because we had such a solid core of pitchers, position players etc. and were obviously building towards something special, yet all people seem to remember these days is the Alomar/Carter trade.
  24. So just to be clear, if we hadn't made the Marlins trade we would have been worse than 73-89 and 74-88 in the following 2 seasons? Holy s***.
