  1. Yep...not to mention Hamels has made a career basically with only one above average pitch (change). We've already had this discussion.
  2. Of c'mon - we all know a lot of the people who call in are stupid most of the time...
  3. I agree with this. 90% of fans that call into the show "know very little about baseball" and I think Wilner does a great job of setting them straight for the most part. I actually enjoy how condescending he is because stupid people need to be shamed...
  4. The man leaves a cellar dweller in Colorado, comes to the Jays and they are riding an 8 game win streak, in a wild card spot and chasing the division title --- you really think he's unhappy? good god.
  5. For that reason alone, I would pack the top of my lineup with my best players. I don't know why more teams don't do this. 50-90 more at bats for Tulo vs. hitting 3rd to 6th (or whatever it is) is nothing to ignore. I know there's stats to show what the optimum lineup is - but I don't recall if it accounts for the value in getting your best guys more at bats.
  6. To be fair, Martin and Smoak have been cold lately. Bello was stone cold in July, but has shown some signs of life in August (11 at bats, very SSS). I'd really like to see Smoak get hot here to end the year.
  7. This actually isn't a bad comparison. Beltre found his groove at the plate as he matured (age 31) and when on an amazing streak which might get him to 3,000 hits and should get him into the HOF. Lawrie and the Seattle version of Beltre are very similar IMO (excluding health of course). Olerud really brought his A game to this thread IMO. The Ichiro, Edgar, A-rod post was gold, although he lost points for forgetting Ken Griffey and Jay Buhner....man - the 1996 lineup with Edgar, Griffey, Arod and Buhner was a fearsome 4 back in the day. Griffey wRC+ of 146, 9.7 WAR Arod wRC+ of 159, 9.2 WAR Martinez wRC+ of 163, 5.9 WAR Buhner wRC+ of 127, 3.7 WAR (44 hr, 138 RBI)
  8. You mean how fans buy their jerseys, baseball cards, etc. of their favourite players? How they cheer for their favourite players, take trips to Cooperstown to see their favourite players in the HOF (if they are lucky enough)? I think for the most part - players have it pretty good. You work hard, play hard and the vast majority of fans love and adore you. It must be tough. Do some players get s*** on? Of course they do. You'd think an event like that would be a good opportunity for Rios to show the fans he's not a dick. I guess some people just see things a different way. I get players must hate signing things for guys who just turn around and sell it for profit, but it can't be that difficult to enjoy being around some young kids and fans who are excited to meet you and to get a ball signed. Tough life.
  9. Wow - one for you Deadpool.
  10. Guess you're one of those engineers who doesn't get sarcasm either. Thanks for helping to create the stereotype that we're all dweebs...
  11. Ever consider the play of the other 24 members of the team may contribute to the losses when Travis has been in the lineup? I'm an engineer too. Yur dum.
  12. Or some of us will adapt to the advancements in technology and stay up to speed with the improved ways of judging a players value. I know it's a foreign concept - but it can happen.
  13. I met Rios in Dunedin at their annual meet & greet after one of the game where fans (that buy tickets for this) all get to line up and get autographs, meet the players and have lunch served by the Jays players. Rios was a massive douche at it as well. He utterly hated his life the entire time he was there and of course he left early. He was the only player there who noticeably displayed how much he hated interacting with the fans. FYSMC Rios.
  14. I remember it fondly. I bought my fake Lawrie jersey off one of those Chinese websites and thought he was going to be the next franchise player and someone to follow for the next decade. Then I realized he drinks too may red bulls and it was all downhill from there. Anyone want to buy a Lawrie jersey?
  15. The Tigers have won their division 4 straight years...who the f*** wouldn't be happy with that? Will it last forever? Of course not. Personally, I think the Jays are very similar to the Tigers and if resigning Price prolongs their run for another 3 years, including a trip to the World Series (heaven forbid winning it), then I'm 100% behind that....even if we're going to be the "current" Tigers in 2019...
  16. god damn Mondays...
  17. I hear what you're saying...it really all depends how viable it is to add 2-3 good players in lieu of 1 superstar. In years past, the Jays have had to 'give up' a lot of young talent to get high priced players because we were never a desirable team and players don't really want to sign here. We no longer have a basket full of prospects to deal to add 2-3 good players. However, if we win the World Series and suddenly become a team that players want to sign with - and we can get 2-3 assets instead of Price......that's an intriguing and solid option.
  18. The man creates runs... http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2015&month=0&season1=2010&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=17,d Enough said. We're talking small ball? I must have fell into that hot tub time machine again...
  19. This is based on the assumption Roger's doesn't increase the budget in the following seasons. Given the MLB TV revenue that's coming in + gains from a winning team - it may not be far fetched to see them raise the budget. That's the beauty of baseball without a salary cap.
  20. I don't think we have any chance of resigning Price unless we win the World Series; however I don't get you guys who say you wouldn't want to resign him (if we could). Our window is right now...it's the next 2-4 years. We have Bats, Tulo, Martin & Donaldson as elite players, we have E5, Travis and Pillar all as above average players and then we have all the young arms - Stroman, Osuna, Sanchez, Hutchison, etc. We have an opportunity over the next 4 years to write another amazing chapter in the history of the franchise. This is our 1992/93 - this IS our time. I'd do whatever I could get to Price re-signed because he'd be a HUGE part of it (esp. if MB retires). Personally, I think it's worth it even if he's a shell of his former self in years 5 - 7 of the deal.
  21. I'd counter that and argue that pitchers who rely on the fastball/change combo are less susceptible to injury than the guys who spin the ball a lot. If you look at pitch value, a guy like Hamels is a 1 pitch pitcher (change). Will Price fall off a cliff when he eventually loses velocity (ala Verlander)? Maybe - but really - which aces do you project will continue their dominance into their mid 30's? It's a bit of a crap shoot IMO.
  22. Thanks Captain Obvious, take a seat on the bench, you've earned it!
  23. You shut your mouth. His hair & his duet (Smooth) with Rob Thomas are both fantastic.
  24. Cleanup in my office...coffee everywhere.
  25. I love this hot tub time machine...
