  1. Absolutely. There were many suggesting the parents should die - not the gorilla.
  2. He actually trended in the wrong direction last year in AAA. K% up, BB% down, wRC+ down from 2015 AAA #'s. His defense was also bizarrely terrible at times. If the FO had any confidence in him at all, I think you would have seen him with the big club when Jose got hurt (either the 1st or 2nd time).
  3. Don't ever read stories about things that happen to children...There are people who truly believe a parent should NEVER take their eyes off their children and/or let them out of the bubble wrap. If they do - they are the devil. It's pretty sickening.
  4. Ethier + Barnes would be a decent target. I can't imagine it would cost a lot (certainly not a 'good' prospect). Barnes is interesting, but he'll be 27 next year with 41 career games under his belt. Ethier is similar to Reddick (LH platoon guy without huge K%) and you'd only have to commit for 1 or 2 years with him (vs. 4-5 years that Reddick might get). Ethier hasn't been very durable and is older - so there is risk there, but he's been a better hitter than Reddick.
  5. https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/how-roberto-perez-overcame-bells-palsy-to-become-an-unlikely-world-series-hero-042257211.html I didn't realise Perez had bells palsy. I love these types of stories.
  6. I assume they re-sign AJ Ellis. Kershaw is so lonely without him.
  7. Bryant was the 8th best base runner in baseball last year (7.3 BsR). Donaldson ended the year at a 0.2 BsR. Bryant is a significantly better base runner - especially when you factor in JD's bad hip. In 18 posts - you've said some pretty ignorant things (like suggesting Pillar should have won the GG last year over KK). You might consider doing more listening.
  8. I love this idea - however, I wonder how much we'd be willing to give up to get him when we just got McGuire.
  9. Unless they recently hired Dave Stewart - I think this goes without saying.
  10. I think Shatkins took a serious look at him because they thought he'd be a slight upgrade over Saunders (and a more durable option). Saunders came back from the dead and had a huge 1st half and we all scoffed at the idea they wanted to deal this guy for Jay Bruce. Then Saunders showed his true colours in the 2nd half and we could see why Shatkins was looking at Bruce as a slight upgrade. I don't think our previous interest in Bruce is any indication moving forward...let's be honest, the market for OFers we could acquire while trading Michael Saunders was incredibly bare.
  11. couldn't...edit..quick...enough. I see he has a club option now - he's not a FA....it's a no-brainer.
  12. He needs to come DH for us. Use his terrible defense as a selling point and make Cincy eat a pile of the $$$.
  13. Sean Rodriguez would be an interesting bench piece. Crushes lefties (151 wRC+ vs. LHP last year) - although last year was the only time in his career he's hit well....did anyone read about some drastic change his in swing or something to justify he spike in his hitting last year? I still hate his K%, but he played all over the diamond last year. Steve Pearce is certainly preferred.
  14. Why did I get castrated for assuming Lester had been drinking after the NLCS celebration again?
  15. Is KK nominated in CF? Or did he miss too many games?
  16. That's probably better than buying 6 years at $30M and paying him for his 36-38 age seasons.
  17. I believe he put it in context of ripping up his current agreement and paying him current market value today - for 5 years. Personally, I like it as we're only investing for his age 31-35 seasons. Get it done.
  18. Dave Cameron suggested 5 years $35M AAV right now on the Fan this morning
  19. I avoid merchandise of this sort like the plague. Nothing like wearing a sweater that everyone knows is 7 years old
  20. Beltre is another one. There are examples of one's that worked out too...don't get me wrong. Seems to be a lot more that didn't...even from guys who were at JDs level when they signed.
  21. Fair enough - but there are comparable ones in Pujols, Mauer, D.Wright & Griffey Jr. You could even argue Crawford (coming off 5.9 and 7.7 WAR years), Ellsbury (who had a 9.4 WAR year and was coming off a 5.6 WAR year) and Kemp (coming off a 8.3 WAR year) are close. Ironically, the best comparisons all completely fell off a cliff almost the day they signed the massive deal...
  22. Is there a case to be made that versatile, good players (Bryant, Zobrist, etc.) who play that sort of start/utility role are more valuable to a team than a guy who's stuck at one position? With more new-age managers in the game, I would think players might market themselves as being more valuable to an organization because they can play multiple positions.
  23. How long is the list of ones that didn't work out? - Fielder - Pujols - Wells - Howard - Hamilton - Mauer - R.Zimmerman - Hampton - Teix - Kemp - Ellsbury - Griffey Jr. - Crawford - M.Cain - D.Wright - J.Santana - Zito - A.Soriano - J.Reyes - H.Bailey - E.Andrus - J.Upton + Miggy + J.Zimmerman (have to assume these 3 tiger signings will not) Actually - looking at this list (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_sports_contracts) there are a few more players who I think will provide value over the long term - Votto - Kershaw - Max - Verlander - Posey - Tulo - Lester - A.Gonzalez - Trout - Hamels - Freeman Book is still out on: - Strasburg (unlikely) - Stanton (injuries - yikes) - C.Davis - King Felix (more probably than not + may already have provided it with 2013-2015) - Heyward (looking ugly). - Grienke - Choo - Cueto - Braun (likely will) - Pedroia - Longo - K.Seager That's all off the top of my head, so be gentle. There may be players who have or haven't provided value (technically based on WAR).
  24. Is there a list (or could we make a list) of players who were signed at age 31-32 on long term deals (say 6+ years) that provided positive value to the team? I suspect Adrian Beltre did, maybe Arod? but that list has to be pretty short. This seems like a move we'd do if we're on the cusp of winning the WS in 2019-2020 and we need to keep JD here to make it happen.
