We've talked before on here about how hitters have become much better low ball hitters to counteract the predominant philosophy to "keep it down" and recent trends of using the 2 seamer more often. I fully expected we'd see a shift to high 4 seamers and it appears that revolution is happening. It's time for the hitters to adjust. In the meantime, it would be really nice if our staff could be ahead of the game a bit. Stro went from throwing lots of 4 seamers with success in 2014 to falling in love with the 2 seamer. We also pushed 2 seamer on Happ when he was first signed from Pittsburgh for absolutely no good reason.

    He bounced back nicely in 2016, but yeah, he looks done. I know I've read a few times that Hanley doesn't like baseball, so perhaps this type of decline shouldn't be that unexpected. He's like Adam Dunn.

    Rowdy's historically been a slow starter. He's got the wRC+ up over 100 now, the BB & K rates are still good and he's starting to hit for power. Let's hope he can get hot and prove last year was a blip on the radar.

    Yeah I thought about him and Winfield too. Henderson was really underrated as a hitter. Everyone remembers the speed, but playing in a time when people valued RBI's - his hitting ability often was overlooked.

    I took a coaching clinic this spring. We were broke into groups of 4 and there were probably 6 groups. As a starter, he asked each group to name the 2 best HITTERS who played for the Blue Jays. It didn't matter how long they played for the Jays or whether they peaked while on the Blue Jays. Our table debated JD, Frank Thomas, Delgado and Olerud before settling on JD and the Big Hurt. 2 of the tables said Joe Carter, while no table said Delgado or Olerud. I was disgusted. A lot of tables said Robbie Alomar, Molitor + Bautista.

    Ok, I watched it. Easy to see in hindsight, but I don't mind that Grandy tagged up on the Morales drive. If that's caught, he's moves to 3rd with 1 out, representing the tying run. If the ball's gone, the game's over and if the ball hits off the wall and gets away from the OFer (which was a possibility if Trout tries to make a leaping catch), then he scores also. With nobody out - I don't fault him at all. Morales should have been on 2nd after hitting the ball. That's bad and would have been awful if Teo hit into a double play. It was the coaches fault for sending Grandy on Teo's fly ball to RF.

    That's not all camera angle IMO. He looks like Bobby Witt out there (I think the first time I heard anyone talk about pitchers throwing across the body, the broadcaster was talking about Bobby Witt when he was on the Rangers). Havok is correct though - it creates a lot of deception, but is probably the root cause of his BB issues. I believe it also adds a lot of stress to the arm.

    If this team had a chance of winning 86 games with Vlad on it - then I'm with you. I'm just not sure they are. We're chasing Seattle, LA and probably Minny and the A's for 1 WC spot. If we aren't winning 85+ games, then we basically are the White Sox and Marlins.
