    After Smoak's home run, Buck says "it's not an accident that Smoak is starting to hit because Morales is starting to hit and Morales is behind him" Well there you have it. That's all the proof one should need to know that lineup protection doesn't exist. IMO - we can't allow people like Buck to spew his nonsense in live TV. It's really bad for baseball to have this ******* on TV - he has a real impact on fans watching on TV and a lot of people believe what he says is true. It's as bad as some of the news outlets.

    Buck and Shulman were just talking about the last time Sam Gavilio got a win and Buck says "that's an ongoing argument with analytics involved in baseball discounting the win. They say there's so many other factors that are involved, but when you look at the championship teams, their the ones that lead in starters wins every year" Jesus Buck - don't you think those championship teams probably create all those other factors that help their starters get wins? Could another meteor hit earth and take out the remaining dinosaurs?

    Yeah but what if there isn't as big of a drop? What if Mike Trout hit behind Bonds - do they walk him as much? Does he hit even more HR's? Again - I realise the numbers suggest lineup protection isn't at thing, but mentally, if Bonds is up in the 9th with the tying run is at 2nd and 2 outs and Rich Aurilia is on deck - I'm going to make Aurilia beat me. If Trout is on deck, well f*** me, I might pitch to Bonds. Flip it around, if Jeff Kent is up in the 9th with the tying run is at 2nd and 2 outs and Barry Bonds is on deck - I'm sure as f*** going to go right after Kent. There's no way in hell I'm going to walk him and bring Bonds up. I think it exists - just there are so few situations that arise like that during the course of a season that it ends up being negligible...

    Completely agree...but I still have a hard time with it - as in theory, you would think pitchers would "pitch around" a great hitter in a tight situation if the hitter behind him was significantly worse. I still pitch - and I do this......but the numbers don't support it. Anyone care to learn me?

    If that's the case - just don't post pitch counts please...Christ - we have to keep and record pitch counts on 10 year olds these days. Surely we have proper pitch counts in the GCL.

    12 pitches? two 3 pitch K's + a 4 pitch walk would only leave 2 pitches to get the last out (unless he picked off the guy he walked). That's a pretty bizarre inning

    I can't stand the fact that people on here seemingly hate children at baseball games, so I'll move onto something that's been echo'd on here a few times already... https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-rockies-lack-of-depth-is-costing-them-wins/ Charlie Blackmon's really fallen off a cliff this year (both offensively and defensively). He's already 32 and that 6 year / $108M contract could sure get ugly in a hurry...

    This Little League Classic is amazing. This is what baseball is all about. MLB needs to find a way to do things like this more often to promote the game to the kids. Heck, the Jays could do a "little league" day. Sell blocks of tickets to youth baseball teams all over Canada at reasonable prices. Load the dome with kids once a year.
