  1. um...no? I'm just saying the guy's been pretty damn impressive this year. Sure he's had some 'luck' behind him, but if he finishes the season with a 1.90 ERA, it would be the second lowest ERA in the AL in the past 40 years (2000 Pedro 1.74). Believe me - I love advanced stats. They are great indications as a pitchers true talent and to predict their future success; however, I don't think you can't totally eliminate the actual results. I find it hard to penalize Snell for being 'lucky' this year. And really, here are the FIP and xFIP for the top AL pitchers Verlander - 2.85, 3.08 Cole - 2.71, 2.98 Snell - 2.98, 3.16 Carrasco - 2.98, 2.90 Severino - 2.95, 3.08 The only standout pitcher in the AL has been Sale (1.98, 2.28). I'd probably buy the argument that he should win it despite only throwing 153 innings. He's only 0.1 WAR behind the AL leader in Verlander.
  2. Ask Donaldson...
  3. Wouldn't his ability to maintain the same velocity suggest the finger isn't a big issue? (whereas a drop in velocity would suggest it's causing problems). I'm excited to see Grant explain to explain why I'm clearly wrong and how logic is in fact illogical.
  4. He is 21-5 with a 1.90 ERA....
  5. That return TB got for Archer is looking pretty solid.
  6. I can't believe I'm asking this, but why do you call him gurribabip? He's posted a 110 wRC+ with a BABIP of .333. I mean he has some worts in his game, but this kid just got transplanted in a new country and has barely played any baseball the past 2 seasons. The kid's had a pretty damn good season.
  7. Holy f*** this guy is slow to the plate.
  8. TL;DR - was this mostly cheating and emotional abuse? or did he get physical?
  9. Khris Davis is currently the 7th most valuable player on HIS OWN TEAM! Let that one sink in MLB.com
  10. Same - and actually they say the Coliseum is one of the loudest stadiums in baseball when it's full. Between the noise and the backed up shittiers - that would be a hectic environment for the Yankees to walk into.
  11. To be fair - Dimaggio gave up 3 full seasons is his prime to enlist in the US Army. I love his BB/K ratios. 12.2 BB%, 2.1 K% in 1941. He was one of the best.
  12. I don't recall Ramirez being a player who revamped his swing as part of the lift and launch era. He's just drastically out performed anything he ever showed in the minors. You can call Sanchez a flash in the pan (I'd agree), but Romero was pretty good for 3 straight years (600+ innings) before both his knees blew up. His minor league numbers suggested he was s*** - so I think he falls into the category you're looking for.
  13. JD Martinez was great in the minors. You're looking for names like 2016 Aaron Sanchez, Ricky Romero, Jose Ramirez, etc.
  14. meh - Johnston may have John beat... I wish Fangraphs would do an article justifying their employment of Sheryl Ring. He's obnoxious.
  15. Good - they don't deserve to make the playoffs.
  16. I always thought Alford's swing had a lot of similarities to JD's.
  17. incorrect statements? I called you a ****. It doesn't get more accurate than that.
  18. Guys - Grant is right. Give up.
  19. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-managers-perspective-john-gibbons-on-his-long-crazy-career/ Interesting read. This is my favourite quote: “There are players who come along that you know could manage someday. Mark DeRosa could manage in the big leagues. J.P. Arencibia. Scotty Rolen. That wasn’t his desire, but I always thought he could do it. David Eckstein. There are a few guys. Here in this room… Russell Martin. If Russell ever had that desire, he’d be a helluva big-league manager."
  20. Nick Markakis is 769 hits away from 3,000. If he averages 154 hits over the next 5 years (and plays until he's 40), he'll officially be the worst hitter ever to collect 3,000 hits (although Ichiro's career wRC+ is below Nick's).
  21. f*** off Grant. ****.
  22. and by this you mean 1 start...his first one vs. Tampa. Holy f***. I'm out. Can't do this. No idea why I even tried.
  23. Don't be such an *******. I'll fix his statement hopefully we can get the point through your thick skull. "Sanchez wasn't very good in 2015, his first extended time pitching in the majors - especially in the 11 starts he made where he posted a 5.21 FIP (4.64 xFIP), along with a 5.73 K% / 5.05 BB% ratio. When you couple that with the poor results of the 27 starts he's made in 2017 and 2018 (which includes a BB% of almost 5) - its looking more and more like 2016 was an outlier year for him"
  24. Geez, I wonder if he means his first full season in the majors where he was given the opportunity to start 11 games and was s***.
