    No way he signs for $360M with deferrals. I could see $360M after you factor in the deferrals and that's the cap hit equivalent. Maybe...still seems low. I think he gets $450M with deferrals.

He might be the type of upside flyer you need to take a chance on. He isn't the power guy that Robert is, but he may provide the same "upside" without having to give up any prospects.

    Fans are 100% hopeful that Roden is a home grown player who becomes a valuable starter for this team on a league minimum contract. We aren't going to add enough impact bats that there's no room for Roden to push his way into the lineup this year.

    Don't get me wrong - I think AA is great. I was just saying it was easier to re-stock faster back then when you could trade for some average RPer with an expiring contract at the deadline and then not resign him and get a comp pick.

    You're suggesting we would have kept Price, thus matching or exceeding the 7 year $217M deal he signed with Boston? Boston/LA got 11.4 WAR out of that deal as Price started the decline as of 2016. Pretty happy we avoided that. The CBA at the time allowed Atkins to re-stock much faster than you can today. He was great at using those loopholes, but very hard to replicate since the changes in 2017.

    I should had added the word "near". The 2015 moves were made near the end of AA's window. The window was definitely still open in 2016. It just shut abruptly after that.

    Wagner has always been a high BB% guy in the minors...but we didn't see much of that at the ML level last year. I wouldn't start him there (keep the pressure off), but I could see him work his way to the top of the lineup if he's producing. His projections suggest he could hit near the top.

    Brian Giles was a f*cking beast back in the day. Dude had a 21% BB / 11.5% K rate, with a .622 SLG% in 2002. Dude could mash. If he started earlier, or could just have sustained it a hair longer, he's in the HOF

    He has the ability to (I think). 78th percentile sprint speed, essentially the same as Kim. Of course instincts and stuff matter too - as does getting on-base a lot (something Clement doesn't do, that Kim does).

    Not necessarily. I suspect the plan is to add enough for one last push. If it fails, we'll trade Vlad & Bo (and others) and start the rebuild. Santander can hit lots of HRs for a crappy team and at some point, may have value on the trade market that we can cash him in for prospects.

    I'm good with this. If Santander opts out, then this means he's been raking for the Jays and this will have been a great signing. An opt out after his age 32 season still seems somewhat unlikely..

    That's exactly how I feel about it. I actually thought Toronto would have to pay a lot more to get Tony. We've seemingly gotten Tony and Hoffman for reasonable deals so far. Even a broken clock is right twice a day though...

    I think the Tony Taters signing opens up more possibility that the money is there to spend. It may even open up the possibility that Ross wanted the $2M in international bonus pool money to sign more prospects to help (even if it's just marginally) strengthen the farm system (signing the guys LA won't be). If Rogers have the purse wide open and $5.5 AAV for Straw doesn't restrict them from buying elsewhere - then sure, I can find a little logic in there. If we stop here because we're not out of money, then I really don't get it.
