  1. That's a bad thing, the Orioles get a better pick.
  2. I wonder if a St. Louis, if this rumour is true, could be given a 48-hour window with JD to negotiate a contract extension before a trade. Like the Jays did with the Mets and Dickey. So if this sort of thing is possible, the Jays and St. Louis would need to agree on all the other pieces (and this would certainly up the quality of players the Jays get back) and the Jays FO would have to understand that this might burn their bridges with JD.
  3. Why do use the word "mate", so much? Are you from the UK, or pretending like you are? Mate? That may come across as douchy, but I'm curious.
  4. I think Hernandez in RF, Alford in LF and Pompey as the 4th OF works for me. I say bye to Carrera because I do not like him as a player. Pompey IMO has way more potential. But I get that Carrera has +WAR. For the infield, status quo pretty much. I guess you keep Morales as the DH because you have to. Maybe get rid of both Barney and Goins and use someone like Gurriel as the Travis backup. For *when* he gets hurt. I'd like the Jays to offer Anderson a 2-year deal, and try to keep Estrada. Anderson and Biagini can be swing man, depending how they look out of ST. The bullpen is actually kid of decent. Of course I'd be open to signing an impact free agent SP, or trading for a +WAR second baseman. Maybe 1-2 impact bullpen arms. I'd try to extend JD 5-years, including arb 4. But I do not know if JD would do that.
  5. What I love about crafty over velo is that 1. they tend to last longer career-wise, and 2. have fewer injuries. I don't have the science to back myself up, I just know it's true.
  6. Price hasn't been a good fit in Boston. And also he seems to be having persistent arm issues. But he could be a fantastic buy-low candidate for the Jays. Especially if his arm is just tweaked and not really injured. The BoSox need a SP for 2017, and are shopping around now. Maybe Estrada or Liriano work. Prolly Estrada because the Sox have so many lefties. And what if part of our asking price was Price. The Jays don't have a lot of SP on the farm, and two of five are FAs after 2017. Price is a much-needed lefty and seemed to be a good fit here. I am not sure if the BoSox would eat a lot of salary. I am not even sure you can trade a player who's on the DL. But it's something I find interesting.
  7. What are a couple of B+ or A- prospects worth? I'd eat 100% of JB's salary to help add to our farm depths with players who have an outside chance to be an add in the future.
  8. I agree. A "rebuild" is unnecessary. But a "re-tool"? Yeah. So, let's hear your ideas, all of you, for re-tooling. As I have mentioned, I think Rogers/FO would be willing to take on some bad contracts to get good contracts (below market value, controllable players). I'd like to hear some of your thoughts on what could, or should, happen. For me, dumping guys like Pearce does not make sense. He's cheap, and can hit. Tulo would be hard to get rid of, but any harder than Wells or Reyes?
  9. I notice most of you don't have any rebuilding ideas, you just wait until someone does and then love to deal out the critical replies. Let's hear them, keyboard warriors. #waiting
  10. Pompey (LF) Pillar (CF) and Alford (RF) with DSJ as the 4th OF. I'd take that over this year's dog's breakfast.
  11. The Jays (Shapiro) has discussed taking on bad contracts to get good contracts/good players and save their farm system capital. Why not trade a bad contract for an even worse contract? Morales for Votto, where the Reds eat $10M/year? On a different trade front, I like the idea of trading for Dee Gordon actually.
  12. They also had, and still have, one of the best farm systems in baseball. The Jays, like we all know, have some night talents in the lower tiers, but not much in AAA.
  13. It sounds like his previously injured meniscus was scoped once again. it must have frayed and got caught in his joint. If that is the case I don't know where you go from here. Meniscus doesn't grow back. They can try stuff like Synvisc and other treatments, but I don't know.
  14. Sounds like he may be one of two farm prospects (Guerrero is the other) who is pretty much untouchable.
  15. What's weird is that I thought Smoak would have a monster season in 2016. He didn't, and then they signed him to what I thought was a bloated deal for someone marginal for 2017 and beyond. No I am excited we have an option for 2019. Sweet. Buck and Pat always say he is great defensively, but his fangraphs metrics seem below average. Who's right? He doesn't appear to be bad defensively to my eye. But I am in IT, I am not a GM. Anyway, it is sweet to see him excelling like he has. I like Smoak. I don't know for sure, but it seems like there is a pretty large group of former high draft picks who bust but then figure it out around 30-years old. Which flies in the face of the "29 then decline" mantra in baseball regarding offence.
  16. He'd be a good pick. I wonder if Angel Pagan is still available. Is he playing in Mexico? Honestly, better than Pagan and Hendrick for the Jays now and the future would be to play Pompey if the man ever gets healthy. Or Alford, if he ever gets healthy. Smith Jr. until they come around? I am not sure. But any of those three instead of selling the farm. I truly can't stand Carerra, but he's holding his own. Also, I am aware I probably misspelled 2-5 names there, but I am on my second rum and don't give a f***.
  17. As eye jokes go, the Forest joke had me LOL. Def on point.
  18. I think the thing with TO and the rest of Canada, at least for us here in SK, is jealousy. TO has it all... The Jays 1-day Amazon shipping Musicals and Plays TO downtown is amazing Close to Niagra Falls, and countless other attractions. Etc. However, in SK I have a 90-second commute to a job that pays me $90K and live like a king in a massive, beautiful house. And have a beautiful cottage at one of the most beautiful lakes in Canada (Candle Lake). In TO, $90K keeps me a street hobo I think. So, pluses and minuses.
  19. Why? Then neither is available for 4-5 days and we burn a bench spot. Or can pitchers who do this still pitch in between "starts"?
  20. I thought you all might like this article... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2704144-noah-syndergaard-just-scratching-the-surface-of-limitless-ceiling
  21. I did, too! That's exactly what I thought he was like. I thought if he had time to mature in the bigs he could have been something. He's entirely out of baseball now, but I Googled him from time to time after he left the Jays org to see what he was up to.
  22. I think I agree with many of you. A middling year is the worst possible scenario. Ideally, 91+ wins would be awesome. But honestly, do any of you really expect that? A poor season forces some changes that the FO has probably wanted for a while. I can't imagine the prospect/youth haul this org would get selling off the list of vets outlined by someone above. It would be obscene. And I would rather watch a young club struggle knowing that the future is bright than this old club struggle.
  23. Is that the plan? Wow that would be pretty neat. And emergency help in the OF. They could go with an 8-man bullpen pretty easily in this event.
  24. The right catcher can't play all 162 games in that position, either.
  25. Yep, Travis is one more injury away from being permanently seen as a band-aid. In my mind.
