  1. It's not "horrible", that's an overly dramatic term. If it as horrible, the FO would offer Pagan $4-5M for LF and play Pearce at 1B. Suddenly not horrible. That author is insulting the fans when he says that. I mean, c'mon, this FO is savvy enough to improve horrible. And most fans know, even fans that aren't fans of the Shartkins era, that they are pretty efficacious. I'd say the current state is "meh", but I also think the roster is still being tweaked and worked on. Atkins isn't going to take a holiday any time soon.
  2. Where does Mike Ohlman fit into the Jays' future? Farm filler or does he have a chance to be something? Once a top ten prospect in the Orioles system (2013). Seems to handle the bat well, and his defense seems playable in the majors. I couldn't find a lot of scouting reports on him. But I trust your opinions more, honestly. This fan seems him as a decent backup, possible starter in a year or two.
  3. He's going to get hurt 2-3 times this season. Might as well have one instance happen in March. Get it out of the way.
  4. There is talk Pagan would accept a minor league deal. I have seen contracts where it is agreed the player will be released if not on the MLB club by May 1st, and so on. That makes sense here. Give him a long ST, since he will be starting late. Unless he is working out with a college team, or a Mexican team or something.
  5. I totally agree. Travis and JD are sort of hurt. Lawrie covers them nicely with a higher ceiling that Barney and Goins, and has some pop. Pagan has been pretty solid in the OF. Cut Smoak. Pearce at 1B please. Hell, Lawrie at 1B please. Hell, Morales and 1B please. Hell, Tellez at 1B please. Hell, JB at 1B please. And so on.
  6. I am a big Pompey fan. Let me toss that out there. He's 24, right? If he has a great ST, I feel there is no way he can't be given LF, *at least* against righties. In this scenario, is Upton DFAed? Dunno. So, in your opinion, if Pompey has a great Spring, what happens? I don't want him to languish another year in the minors. But also, I don't want Lunch Bucket Hero, redux. Man, if he has a good year in LF, with his tools, he's a great addition. I don't see Carrera getting over like 0.7 WAR.
  7. If he's not hurt this year, why can't he play 500+ games? I'd love to see him play a lot of LF honestly. That and I am hoping that Pompey has an amazing spring and supplants someone on the major league roster.
  8. I'd overpay EE just to keep him out of Boston. If I'm JB, I take a QO and hope that I have the best f***ing bounce back year ever. At this point, though, I'm not sure the FO should even offer him a QO. I know I am in the minority there.
  9. This is the ideal scenario. But what about Saunders? I'd like him back, too.
  10. Are any of these prospects, including the new pickups, ready to play in the show as early as 2017?
  11. But even if he skips those starts, he'd have to throw in the 'pen on those days to keep stretched, right? Like 40-50 pitches? I'd rather he throw those bullets during games and go 3-innings.
  12. Oh yeah, Neil Wagner. Threww 100 mph and then disappeared. Another Billy Koch.
  13. Or just start AAA pitchers until June, when the real starters can start? I know, silly. Well, maybe not in Dickey's case.
  14. Why not just say after discussions with Sanchez, his agent and team doctors, it was determined that we'll take the leash off until the moment when/if there are red flags. That's all they have to do. I have never seen a Jays starter seem to pitch so effortlessly, and be so effective. If his fastball goes down a few ticks and he gets shelled 1-2 games in a row, then you throw him into the 'pen. It would just seem better for everyone, including team morale.
  15. I love this, but no way EE doesn't get offered a 4-5 year, $100M contract. I think we have a payroll of $108M next year already? JB is realistic, but EE (IMO) is not. But there are a few guys out there who could be replacements. Not as good, but cheaper...Napoli, Beltran, Texeira, etc. They would all be a decent DH pickup, and can play some positional stuff in a pinch. And actually Cola might be an almost free DH if he can find his non-PED groove on the farm. Napoli, right now, has an oWAR of 1.5, EE 2.5. Napoli can be had for cheap, and I (suspect) he's a good clubhouse presence (not that EE is not). Anyway, I think with a salary close to $120M if JB signs, then we use Cola or a cheaper option. At least we get the QO draft pick.
  16. So Bats is having a horrible, horrible platform year. I wonder if this actually helps the Jays sign him for less, and as a DH, when he becomes a FA. I mean, really, who's going to back the money truck up and sign him now?
  17. Not huge moves looked at independently. But as a composite, it's actually pretty impressive. Adding to prospects that become top 10 in our org is pretty cool.
  18. And doesn't he have three more years of control? That and the Valencia "trade" were two of the weirdest deals we've done in the last couple of seasons.
  19. This is one of the funniest posts I've read in a while. Thanks for that. Funny because it's true.
  20. Dickey can help a lot of teams. Especially in the NL where (I assume here) he could be a lot like the Dickey of old. What could we get for him? No lengthy contract, about $11M left for the year, and we have Hutch looking good in AAA. No more "hole" Thole in the batting order. Two Questions First, could Hutch come close to what Dickey can offer for 2016? Second, should we wait the year out, hope Dickey does his thing and ends up with good numbers, offer him a QO, and hope that we get a pick out of it?
  21. Totally agree. If he's doing the job very well throwing 88 mph, then he'll last for a long time. He's steady eddy, and he's so tough to hit. He loves TO, signed for what I think is a hometown discount, etc. So many reasons to keep him. He'd be almost the last guy I trade unless some FO offered the moon for him. Which is unlikely.
  22. I can't imagine to better off season FA signings than Happ and Estrada. I know AA left a bunch of recommendations to the new FO before he left. It'd be interesting to see if he recommending signing either of those two.
  23. That is freaking awesome. He doesn't take himself seriously all the time.
  24. That's maybe the best slider I have ever seen. Hey, Happ continues to look pretty darn solid. He and Estrada both may turn out being pretty damn awesome signings. If Storen can locate his fastball, and have that movement on his slider some of the time, he might end up being a good trade.
