  1. I thought he was a slugger who never took walks coming into his tenure with the BJ's, but yeah, his career average is way better than I thought going into last season. But keep in mind that he's bound to get fewer bad pitches, given the elite nature of the batters in front on him. I think given that, I was surprised he took as many walks as he did. He seemed to take a lot of close pitches for balls. Ones that a free swinger (ala Rob Deer) would never have taken. With s***** Seattle, he may have actually been one of the hitters that was "unintentionally intentionally" walked a bit. So, in sum, I would say (again, without looking at numbers) that he received better pitches/at bat with the Jays than he has any other year previous.
  2. The plus with Pillar, at least for this fan, is he'll get a ton of fastballs to hit, which he seems to feast on (don't have stats in front of me to underline this, though), and second, he can steal a base almost at will. He may have an OBP of .320, but a lot of those singles can be stretched a bit with the speed. But then again, with this offense behind him, does he need to steal? I think yes, stress out the defense of the opposition, force mistakes, and so on. Also, it'd allow Pillar to really develop that part of his game. Gain really good experience. But if he's not going to ever get the green light, then you may as well shove Tulo in the lead off position. Or anyone from 2-6, really. I may have about seven too many commas in my reply above.
  3. Tito (is that his nickname? - can't recall for shizzle) would be pretty awesome as the Jays manager though.
  4. Yeah, I like that idea a lot too. Why isn't anyone signing Jackson? it's weird. Decent offensive, can steal 20-25 bases, and plus defense. I don't get it.
  5. I'd strongly consider 6/100.
  6. Thank God. Anyone but Tulo. For me. Travis when he's healthy.
  7. Historically, DH-type players makes less than position players. JB still considers himself a position player. How much has Ortiz made, AAV, over the last 4 seasons?
  8. Well, first, that wasn't the question. It'd be a misattribution error to assume I'm tacitly implying he's great offensively on every level. For $2M, or whatever he's making, he can hit dingers. Not much else, although he took more walks last year than I expected. The question was, who would hit dingers. Oh, and I think he plays for better than league average defense.
  9. They might even bank some catches for the next game, they'd be that good. Which begs the question, has their ever been an outfield that had three defensive wizards on it? I'm sure there have been. But it'd still be special. Did Griffey Jr. and Ichiro ever play together? Those are a couple of the best outfielders I've ever seen. Pompey, Alford and Pillar could be right there, IMO.
  10. Guys like Smoak, if around, could hit 20-25, too. For 1/25th the cost.
  11. Did the Rogers PR machine pull the strings on JB's mouth like a marionette? I am totally focused on what he said. Not the BS numbers provided by half-assed sports reporters.
  12. Yes, my good man. Herp Derp.
  13. Oh, I get it. I actually think if forced, he'd be an okay player to lay down a 5-year, honestly.
  14. I fell in love a little with EE when he says this....pretty awesome, considering. His English isn't too bad. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/gotta-hear-it-encarnacion-gives-media-his-number/
  15. I'm honestly done with JB at this point. If they can even trade him now for lots (player(s) that can help now, player(s) who can help soon), I do it. I know, I know, 10-5. Doesn't mean it's impossible.
  16. If you're EE's agent, do you recommend signing for 3/65M? I don't think so. I think a 5-year deal, and I am not sure the AAV, ~ $22M? 5/90? Maybe add an opt-out clause after year 3. You're suggesting we sign Jackson now, as a FA, I think. I like that idea, honestly. Steamer gives him a 1 WAR. I think 2-2.3 is reasonable. He might make a good lead off man. 25 SB's isn't a crazy estimate.
  17. Qualify EE and JB, and pick up two decent draft picks.
  18. Has this guy ever been a free agent? I don't think so. I love him, but he'll test free agency and walk. Good for him. I'd rather sign a younger EE long term, at least he would be okay and suited to play DH for 3-4 (maybe 5) years.
  19. I agree. You know what I would try to do first, is trade him to Boston for 2-3 solid prospects instead, though. Maybe 4. As painful as it would be. I get the strong sense EE would accept a trade to Boston. The only caveat, Boston has to get rid of Hanley first, which probably won't happen.
  20. Jesus Christ, just how many solid baseball players does Cuba have?
  21. I do that in a heartbeat. It actually seems okay for both sides. I think as long as he is making > $20M, and > 3 years he goes for it.
  22. That was a contract essentially paid to him based on one good year. I think everyone wondered if it would be a terrible deal for the Jays. There was risk for both Bats and the FO when that deal was signed. So I don't think he signed undermarket at the time. I am not sure many teams would have offered him that deal, given the risk and he being pretty unproven at the time. My thoughts.
