  1. Scouting report on Gallardo...from April, 2015 http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/4/6/8268319/what-do-the-rangers-have-in-yovani-gallardo Yovani Gallardo was drafted by the Brewers in the second round in 2004, out of high school in Fort Worth, Texas. He had a scholarship to Texas Christian, but the Brewers convinced him to sign. Gallardo has exceeded even optimistic expectations, reaching Double-A in just his second full year and dominating the level at age 20. SCOUTING REPORT Gallardo was drafted in great part because of his athleticism: he was a fine soccer player in high school. He was 6-2, 190 when drafted, but has added an inch and 25 pounds of muscle to his frame. The increase in size and strength has boosted his fastball. It was 89-93 MPH in high school, but hits 95-96 MPH at times now, with movement. His curveball, slider, and changeup have all improved, particularly this year. Mechanical refinements have sharpened his control, enabling him to locate his pitches where he wants to in the strike zone. He is cool on the mound and doesn't get emotional. PERFORMANCE Gallardo has improved at each level, which is what you want to see. Note the steady decline in his ERAs as he has moved up the ladder. Note his strong K/IP and H/IP ratios, and the low home run rate. His main flaw last season was occasionally spotty control, but that hasn't been much of an issue this year. Overall, there are no flaws in his numbers. Add in the fact that he is 20 years old and pitching great in Double-A, and you have yourself a top prospect. HEALTH RECORD No problems thus far. His athleticism should help him stay healthy, although there is of course no guarantee when pitchers are concerned. OUTLOOK Gallardo is an excellent pitching prospect. There isn't much more that can be said. He isn't far behind Bailey, and has actually outpitched Hughes since being promoted.
  2. I've been thinking this for a while. And of course we get the draft pick. Or, or, we trade EE to Boston right now (gasp!) and semi-raid their farm.
  3. I'd really like the Jays to extend Chavez ASAP. 3-years, $16M?
  4. And Stroman is pointing at it. #nohomo
  5. I'm still a big Lawrie fan. I have met him. Not that meeting a guy once means much at all. But he was funny, charming and just really nice to me and my little daughter. He called her "squirt" which she giggled at. Anyway, I like to think I can read people pretty quickly, I have to with my job in Corrections, and I got a good read on Lawrie. So, in sum, I don't get the hate some of you have for him. But everyone is entitled to her or his opinion, certainly.
  6. Speaking of Howard, Steamer predicts -0.8 WAR. Gross. What's he due, $28M? Yikes. Think he'd be + 1.5 ish if he only played DH?
  7. I don't know why Izturis wasn't considered instead. Bwahahahaha.
  8. I'm still a big fan, couldn't we have brought him back? Did he really burn his bridged here?
  9. How is that smart? We should bid on any FA the team wants/needs. Period. If that player gets too pricey, we pull out. Who gives a f*** if the FO gets a little egg of their collective face for being turned down. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
  10. Conjecture, but I think Rogers wants a ~$140M payroll heading into the season. I am sure we could get 5-10M (or more) during the season to pay for needs, etc.
  11. I'm thinking $11-12M, but then our bullpen is looking very solid, if not flashy.
  12. We would EE say yes to a trade to the Indians?
  13. Seriously a really, really excellent movie. I also liked the Natural and Field of Dreams, as baseball movies go.
  14. If you have one hole in the rotation, you can wait. If you have three you sign who you can know, and then hope to upgrade later. It`s not like you can have enough starting pitching. Hutch in AAA would be fantastic to start the season. I am interested in both Lee and Meada. A lot. I`ll bet Lee can still be a quality 3-4 pitcher. Meada, who knows.
  15. It doesn't match well, but how about Revere and Hutch for Shields. Revere's salary off the books makes that a $13M salary for 2016. Then we have a Pompey/Pillar/JB outfield. We can grab a guy like Joey Butler as the 4th guy. Stroman/Shields/Estrada/Dickey and Happ is very okay.
  16. Oh gawd, Hutch and salary relief??? I'd make that trade in a heartbeat. Which means it's too 1-sided.
  17. I'm just confused. You can't make any threads because we have this general jays discussion thread. When I bring up a topic, I'm directed to go to other threads that probably haven't been updated with anything for weeks. Can't win.
  18. Sooooooo, you're answers are in that thread? I thought everyone likes to have all things under one thread?
  19. If they're having solid seasons, and we suck, I think we'd get a very decent haul for them. And I also think we'd have a shot at re-signing them after the season, too.
  20. Also, in terms of extensions, I wonder it may be prudent to offer Chavez a 2-year extension? Maybe 3-year, $24M (which would include this year), backloaded for 2016, 2017?
  21. Do you think the FO will extend both EE and JB? What sort of contract would it take, 3-year, $50M for each of them?
  22. I think you may want to hold off on that until after this year. Trading him doesn't help us sign Price anymore. And it's be nice to increase his value over the course of a competitive window year. But, I wouldn't mind trading him after 2016. Hopefully we will be selling high. Man, I wonder what Shapiro will do with EE and JB. I think you'll see us get picks for both when they leave for FA. But I'd like to extend them both.
  23. We should also sign Morrow. Then we'd have the Jays of old: Chavez, Morrow, Johnson and Happ. Back to the halcyon days.
  24. Zimmerman signed for 5-years, $110M. That's actually a reasonable contract. Will Price really get twice as much as this? Price is loved, effective, and we don't lose a draft pick. I hope he is still in play for the Jays.
  25. Shark in a heartbeat at that price. I think backloaded we can still make that deal.
