  1. He keeps giving me "they can't send him back down" moments. That incredible walk against Sale, for me, was the capper. I would rather DFA Grichuk (and 99% lose him) than send Teoscar down. We still have Alford ready to go, and don't look now, but Pompey is hitting the s*** out of the ball in MiLB. Also, and this counts for s*** I realize, Teoscar just seems like a really good kid. Great team player.
  2. Hey do you think it'd be a good idea (with MODS approval) to start a sticky thread in this forum with only links to stories about the Jays in the various sports news sources (canoe.ca, tsn.ca etc). Like Gurriel shines in Blue Jays win at Yankee StadiuM http://canoe.com/sports/baseball/toronto-blue-jays/gurriel-shines-in-blue-jays-win-at-yankee-stadium/wcm/a77bd4a5-659c-44bf-af0c-699a457ba8b9 Non-paywall stuff of course.
  3. First, here's a "planning the parade" warning... Remember in 1992 1993 when we brought in quality vets like Winfield and Molitor to put us over the top? What if JB hits the cover off the ball for Atlanta, but they suck, and we're still in the playoff hunt in July. Wouldn't it be cool to bring him back for Fall ball? #fullcircle We could DFA Morales. JB would provide DH, 3B and 5th OF in that scenario.
  4. He's awful, and he's banging Hazel Mae (presumably) who I still find very, very hot. I am old, too so it's not gross.
  5. if one of the kids in AAA starts burning it up, and Grischuk is still floundering come late-April, I'd be more than happy for changes. Maybe DFA Pearce? Does Grischuk have options?
  6. I think the Bisons are going to have a big year. I think Pompey will stay relatively healthy and put up some great numbers. That is my prediction.
  7. In today's and given JD's noodle arm, you are getting back not much for JD at this point.
  8. I really wanted to sign Hutch in the off-season to a MiLB deal. And Anderson. Would have been great, especially in light of Pannone's suspension. Hutch strikes me as the kind of pitcher that potentially become a Chris Carpenter (or even Happ) who puts it all together later on in his career to become better than average.
  9. They have a lot of talent and will have 2-3 streaks where they win 10-12+ games. The Jays, as awful as they look now, will probably have a few mini winning streaks. Because they do have some talent. The baseball season is such a marathon, there are tons of ebbs and flows.
  10. Oh right! I keep forgetting about him. Yeah, no Phillips. We have a pretty good group of young infielders. Even Urena shows a little potential there. Jimcanuck, do you think Urena could ever make this team as a bench player, or full-time INF?
  11. I'd actually like to see more of Solarte and Diaz. And Espinosa over Phillips. They are younger and/or have way more control. We need to take this opportunity to keep on developing some of these guys. Gift seems like a guy who hits terribly, but the FO has talked about his bat really coming around. I think his ceiling offensively is higher than Goins, Not saying much, but if he could just hold his own, he'd be a great bench guy with tons of control. You need cheap, young guys like this so you can allocate dollars elsewhere to buy some talent to plug holes. Just MO.
  12. I agree. He really needs to play everyday. He might even steal 15-20 bases. We need his 5 tool set. And I say five tools because I think his arm is pretty strong. I haven't Googled it though.
  13. I would actually like to re-sign Happ and Estrada. Nothing extravagant, 2-year deals if they would take them. Morales is dead weight. He is awful. I cannot even imagine having him on this team for all of 2018 and he is signed for next year, too. Tulo may never play baseball again. I like everything this FO did this offseason. But they inherited a mess, and to make a run for it the Jays traded a lot of good young players away. Syndergarrrrrrrrd is looking awesome btw. We traded him for Dickey!
  14. Morales is horrible, and could sit while JD plays DH for a while and Vlad plays 3B Just kidding about Vlad, I want to manipulate his service time as much as the next fan #longgame I would actually be okay with Espinosa playing 3B for a while until JD's "dead arm" is lively. I am happy when Kendrys sits. He's f***ing terrible.
  15. To replace who? Unless there are more injuries I don't think so. As much as I would like the FO to jettison Morales, that's not going to happen. Maybe if one of the new INF depth pieces really sucks. But even then it is unlikely. Maybe if they just move Tulo to the 10000000-day DL.
  16. There is no way I'd call them up until June, 2019. And only if they could impact a young squad with a real shot at something. It was a hypothetical. I think Vlad and Bo would be a huge upgrade NOW over Morales and Tulo. Mostly because I don't think Tulo plays this year and Morales runs like my grandma. And she's dead.
  17. Serious hypothetical question... Are the 2018 Jays better with Tulo/Morales or Bichette/Vlad? It won't and shouldn't happen. But I wonder what the differences would be.
  18. From https://www.minorleagueball.com/2017/5/11/15615796/mlb-rookie-profile-sam-gaviglio-rhp-seattle-mariners Gaviglio is from Ashland, Oregon, and attended Oregon State University. He was drafted in the fifth round in 2011 by the St. Louis Cardinals. While generally decent in their system he never quite gained traction as a top prospect and had nagging injury issues. After posting a 4.28 ERA in 137 innings in Double-A in 2014, he was traded to the Mariners. He’s spent the last two and a half seasons in the high minors for Seattle with decent results, posting a 3.71 ERA with a 50/14 K/BB in 63 innings in Triple-A last year and a 3.31 ERA with a 16/3 K/BB in 33 innings this season. He also started one game for Italy this spring in the World Baseball Classic, giving up two runs and five hits in 4.2 innings. Gaviglio is listed at 6-2, 195, born May 22nd, 1990. A ground ball pitcher, he doesn’t throw especially hard, topping out at 91, and relies a lot on his slider and change-up. There’s nothing spectacular about him but he throws strikes and keeps the ball down. Long relief seems like the role for him.
  19. I couldn't agree more. I love Alford, but it makes so much sense to keep him down a bit longer. Or trade Pillar.
  20. No, but you need to only look at the offensive metrics for a DH IMO. That's where you see the real value in a good DH.
  21. I think that's where the Granderson contract is such a good one for this club. We get a decent lefty who can hit some dingers, play at least average defense, and provide much needed mentorship and leadership in the clubhouse. And, as a bonus, it actually makes sense to keep Alford cooking a little in AAA to extend that service time window. We get that all for $5M. Great deal.
  22. I sort of hope he's on the DL most/all of the season. Maybe insurance will pay a bit of his salary.
  23. I totally agree. First, I hate Morales. Second, Gibby said yesterday (essentially) that Morales will not get as much playing time as last year, since there plan is to use the DH spot to rest position players, yet still keep their offense in play. Third, FA prices will probably not continue to be this historically low. Jump now! On as many as we can! If eating Morales' salary is the penalty, it's still a great buy. In terms of WAR for bucks spent. Fourth, I hate Morales. In this climate, small market teams that have had a hard time attracting FAs historically should be starting to spend like drunken sailors.
