  1. The only upside to the Jays not rebuilding is that the WC looks weak as hell this year. Might get to one of those spots with 85 wins. However, that would mean the Jays would have to play some .580 baseball the rest of the way with no margin for error, and if at least two of the 7(?) teams ahead of them get really hot, then 85 might not even be enough. Holding assets for too in hopes of a longshot to happen is a huge risk.
  2. The Jays going on a run and winning 83 games by the end of the season while missing the playoffs by a handful of games would bring back some 20 years of memories.
  3. Yeah can't take anything he says at face value but I don't expect Rogers to rebuild. Way too much money to be made selling hope in 2018.
  4. Shapiro on pts made it sound like he has no intention of selling anyway (selling the good players, at least). Team will win about 80 games this year and then try again next year. The Rogers way.
  5. LOL at Liriano still pitching in the 7th and promptly being pulled after one batter.
  6. He didn't have Donaldson's peak, but six 5.0+ WAR seasons in his 20's is pretty damn good. He got his contract for what he did in the past, and it turns out, players do in fact decline when they get older.
  7. I like how they are promoting them together. Watching these two move up each level will be exciting. Hopefully no setbacks and we finally start developing some position player stars again.
  8. Except the Jays would be paying him for his past rather than what they expect in the future. Aka, why Tulo makes $20mm a year right now and why the Jays would dump him for a ham sandwich if any team was willing to take his salary.
  9. Morales is hitting the ball as hard as he did last season, but hitting more GB. Maybe he will have a better 2nd half, but yeah, he's been bad so far. K's up as well.
  10. The Jays are not in any financial trouble so if there is an opportunity to trade Estrada, Bautista, and Liriano, then just eat up the remainder of their deals and see if that increases the package you get back. Still probably won't get that much back but might make teams more willing to give up something useful. But yeah, I'm disappointed in how those three have performed, especially Estrada who looked like a massive trade chip about a month ago.
  11. No way the Yankees trade Judge for Donaldson. I'm not a big fan of getting pitching prospects as the main pieces either. Too risky. Elite hitting prospects would be better, but which teams will give them up for a year and a half or one year of an expensive JD? He chose to get hurt/decline at the wrong time.
  12. Well, on the bright side, Shatkins (or Shatcava I guess) looks great for only giving Estrada two years.
  13. The Royals are tied for the 2nd WC? Damn. It's been so long since I looked at the standings. I don't think I can stomach another BABIP fueled playoff run by them.
  14. Trading JD within the division at his age and price tag shouldn't be a huge concern. He has 1.5 years of control left, his final year of arb will be expensive, and then he will want to get extended into his 30's at huge money. If the Red Sox want to do that, then let them. As long as the Jays get good value that's all that matters.
  15. Warmoth at short, Guirrel in Zobrist role.
  16. 3 vs Boston (swept), 3 at NYY, and 4 vs Houston before the break, and then a 10 game road trip after the break ending with 7 in Boston and Cleveland. The Jays are selling folks. No mystery here.
  17. Nah. We got blinded by the exit velocity narrative, but I don't think anyone was a huge fan of that deal. It was decent value for what he is. Nothing great.
  18. The 2nd WC team is currently two games over .500. Of all the f***ing years to suck, they had to choose this one.
  19. It's too bad the Mets are not good this year. They were the perfect trading partner.
  20. Trade him. This team ain't getting better next year. They tried to compete in 2017, it failed, and now they can move on with the rebuild.
  21. When selling at the deadline, find a taker for Morales. It's not so much his hitting, but the fact that he's forcing Pearce to play the outfield that is awful. Pearce is a better hitter and has more defensive value. Trade Morales to the ROyals or something. Hell, trade him anywhere. Just open DH up for Pearce and unleash his bat.
  22. Nah, OF next year will be Zeke in RF, Pillar in CF, and Pearce in LF with Pompey as the 4th OF. He's out of options I think.
  23. Me too. Tank nation stand up.
  24. Lol no man, the front office is good. The roster they inherited just had an expiration date. They got all they could get out of it. Now time to pivot.
  25. I hate losing too but the writing is on the wall. I don't want this team to try again next year when they can't even win a winnable as hell 2nd wild card this year. Just trade JD, Osuna, etc, and start the rebuild now instead of prolonging it. I mean losing for a few years is going to suck but we all knew this was coming eventually. Just wish the run lasted longer.
