  1. Anything can happen in the playoffs (god knows the Royals should not have beaten the Jays in 2015 if just looking at talent), but the bigger issue is whether the Jays are even good enough to get there. It's getting to the point where I'm not sure if they are. Good enough to be around 80-85 wins? Sure. Will that be enough to get to the 2nd wild card? Maybe, but that's a pretty s***** spot to be in. I wouldn't trade any assets to get help for this year. Maybe some C level prospects but nothing that we might end up regretting.
  2. Baseball IQ is strong on this team.
  3. Well, when Shapiro was hired, Guerrero was like 16 years old and just signed with the Jays. Shaps would have looked foolish if he was hyping up Vladdy as a generational type of talent at that point. Plus, all I remember hearing was that Shapiro didn't like trading all those prospects at the 2015 trade deadline and in recent years the upper minors has been bare. He wasn't wrong.
  4. Pearce up to a 95 wrc+ after his single. Slowly climbing out of his s***** April. He's back.
  5. THanks Josh Donaldson for the lineup change. When your best player is also a better manager than the one you have, it's a little scary, but whatever.
  6. Current wrc+: 84 Career wrc+: 85 He is where he normally is already. Only difference is his defence isn't as good, so the value has plummeted. If Seattle falls out of the race, I'd offer Pillar for Jarrod Dyson and see if the M's would value Pillar's controllability after 2017. Dyson is a better version of Pillar, and even though he's a FA might be cheaper to sign due to age (plus he can become the 4th OF in the future if someone takes CF from him).
  7. Tulo was declining in his final (half) season in Colorado. i guess there was a chance that it was just an off year and he would bounce back to star levels after that, but he was a league average hitter in 2015, 2016, and well below so far in 2017. This is probably what he's going to be, about ~100 wrc+ in a typical season. If his defence dips on top of that, then it will get ugly.
  8. Someone will take him. Won't get much value back, but teams rarely pay top value in trades for defence anyway. Dude can't hit and his D has regressed. If the latter continues, he's closer to replacement level than a starting cf. Combine that with his inflated opinion of his own limited talent, and it's a no brainer for me. I'd miss seeing his wife on TV occasionally, though.
  9. Seriously, if the Jays are sellers at the deadline, then ship Pillar's ass out. Play DSJ there, or Pompey if he's still alive, or god anyone else. Great defensive cf's that can't hit but find a way to put up a 3-4 WAR season or two can flame out pretty quick.
  10. Even if the end result is Pillar playing elsewhere? Fight the good fight.
  11. Maybe if we all go to social media and act offended at Pillar's anti-gay verbage (even if it's a month late), then maybe Rogers will force management to trade him? Let's do it guys. He'll be making real money from next year onwards and his defence is beginning to dip. Abort.
  12. Thankfully we have a funny stubborn manager who will just roll out the same lineup tomorrow.
  13. Nice to have Pillar at the top of the lineup getting the most AB's. Comes in handy in situations like this.
  14. How bad does Pillar have to be to move out of the lead off spot? Seriously.
  15. I can't imagine Jose and Kendrys will like being called out, especially since the biggest issue with the lineup is Pillar and JD didn't bring him up at all.
  16. Pillar batting 1st and Pearce batting 8th. Gibby working under Ned Yost makes a ton of sense.
  17. I think hitters do prefer to hit in certain spots in the lineup. I don't know about Smoak specifically, though. Move Jose to lead off, Pillar to 8th, and move everyone else up one. So, Jose-JD-Morales-Smoak-etc. That seems to be the common sense move based on the talent involved. I'd be ok with Pearce at lead off too, but don't think Gibby has that faith in him yet.
  18. 2017 - starts in Lansing, ends in Dunedin 2018 - starts in Dunedin, ends in NH 2019 - starts in NH, ends in Buffalo, Sept call up? 2020 - starting 3b? That would make him a regular at age 21. Reasonable for a player of his ability. Obviously assuming everything goes well and no setbacks.
  19. Estrada hurting the team's chances and his trade value at the same time. f***.
  20. It was bound to happen since Gibbons has used him for more than half the games played this season, and knowing Gibby probably warmed him up a few times without using him. They really need to scale back on his usage.
  21. Yeah, Osuna's arm would explode with a starter's workload. Just enjoy him for this year and another 3 years (assuming they don't trade him).
  22. Osuna is never going to start again. Time to let go of that dream.
  23. Unfortunately, the Jays might be looking at $58m of deadweight in 2018-2020 from Tulo (plus whatever he's making this season to be below replacement level). Shapiro will have a huge hurdle having to move that contract, but at least we know he won't trade top prospects to get a worse contract back this time around. If anything, he'll have to eat up a large chunk of it and accept little in return.
  24. Yeah seriously. The game is pretty much over at this point. Might as well have Biagini eat up as many innings as possible even if more runs get on the board. If it was a 3-4 run game I'd understand. Oh well.
