    I think most people, me included, were thrilled to get the Twins as an opponent in 2023 given the alternative (the Rays), and that still led to an embarrassing two game sweep. My mindset now is get the bye, clinch the best record in the AL so that home field is guaranteed throughout the AL side of the playoffs, and whatever that leads to in terms of opponents is what it is. Luckily if the Jays continue to have a good week then they should be able to get the best record and avoid a 2015 situation where the Royals ended up overtaking them in the final 4 games of the season (home field against the Royals in the ALCS that year could have changed that series completely).

    The Jays treat veterans with a lot of respect but I don’t think we have to worry about Berrios making the playoff roster. The org seems very aware of what he is and where he fits in the current depth chart.

    A big drop in velo for a guy who has clearly been overused is not good.

    Bo’s out for the regular season. The bye may help get him back by the start of the playoffs but depends on how he recovers. Tough spot for him to be in during a free agent year.

    Bo's defense and sprint speed was bad when he was healthy. If he comes back in time for the playoffs then he shouldn't even touch a glove. Put him at DH and work around that. If Tony also comes back then the OF defense would take a massive hit (Springer and Tony in the corners) but it's still the best lineup they could put out there.

    I tend to agree. I thought the market was going to be tougher on Bo than people thought before the injury (big spending teams don’t need SS’s other than the Dodgers who will likely aim higher for someone like Tucker). With a knee injury on top of the other caveats (bad defense, declining athleticism/speed, etc), I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s back with the Jays on some type of 1+1 deal. At that point the Jays would have no reason to accommodate his ego so hopefully if that happens they put him somewhere other than SS. But on a straight long term deal, I would move on.

    Martinez is out of options next season, by all accounts sucks on defense anywhere he plays, and now can’t hit after a PED suspension. Maybe he figures it out somewhere else but given where the Jays are now as an organization, they had no reason to hold on to him. If he still had options after this season then maybe they would have handled it differently.

    Unbelievable pitching tonight, especially from Yesavage and Fisher. Massive win. Yankees lost so the lead is now 6 counting the tiebreaker with 12 to go. Getting closer.

    Gimenez looks smooth at SS. Good sign for next season at least (assuming Bo is gone).

    Can the Rays relocate already? Seriously, any other part of the US. I don't care where.

    Team defense is definitely going to improve with Gimenez at SS and Clement at 2B. Barger and Lukes rate better this season at 3B and RF respectively than they do in RF and LF, so defensively it's probably a significant improvement. The bat is going to be sorely missed though. Santander coming back and being a threat will compensate for that somewhat, but Bichette had a 133 wRC+ before he got hurt. Tied for 17th in MLB with Bryce Harper. You're not replacing that. Have to hope one or both of Gimenez/Clement get some BABIP luck now and into October.

    Gimenez playing SS did seem a bit strange this late in the season if Bo was going to come back soon. If he's out for a while and it bleeds into the post season, then that's not good. Tony Taters coming back and being effective is even more important now if that's the case.

    Yankees lose. 5 games up counting the tiebreaker with 13 to go.
