  1. Good start by the Red Sox. A BOS win tonight would be huge for the Jays.
  2. Yeah, Lauer has essentially been the long man and spot starter since they acquired Bieber. That role can now be filled by Yesavage. In that scenario, it doesn't make sense to have both Lauer and Borucki on the roster. Just use Lauer as the second LHP out of the pen, and drop Borucki. That seems to be the most logical move here. Unless someone is going on the IL, hopefully not.
  3. Nice! Wonder what the corresponding roster move will be.
  4. John Schneider Ned Yost’ing his way to victory. It’s destiny.
  5. IKF is awful against LHP. It made no sense.
  6. Giving IKF to JS is like giving a gun to a chimp and watching the chimp shoot someone.
  7. Knew the name was familiar. If a future HOF is getting squeezed by this dude, then it's going to be a long day.
  8. 105.9, 112.5, 106. Lots of hard contact that inning.
  9. Could have been a lot worse. Ump cost Scherzer a run there. Hopefully the bats have a big day.
  10. Vic Carapazza. Name sounds familiar so he must be ass. That call was brutal.
  11. If it's Clement vs Loperfido, then I'm fine with Clement in there. Better defense and I'm not convinced there's much difference in the bat. Joey is rocking a near .500 BABIP with an ocean blue statcast page. Regression will hit him very hard. Clement going back to a platoon or non-everyday role makes more sense when Santander and hopefully Bo come back.
  12. DS in against a RHP instead of Loperfido. Online bullying works (or common sense prevailed, whichever you prefer).
  13. Did you see how happy JS looked running out of the dugout to take Little out? Dude lives for pitching changes.
  14. Ah didn't see that. The announcers kept harping on Little looking like he's staying in the game so I figured no one was warming. Schneider usually uses Old School 101 baseball logic, so surprised that he may have even considered keeping Little in for 1 batter before bringing Hoffman in. Maybe that was just Shulman spit balling.
  15. I doubt they have Little start the 9th and then put in Hoffman, so if Little is starting the 9th then he's either finishing it or maybe Dominguez after?
  16. Fully on board with Gimenez at SS, now and moving forward. Obviously if Bo is healthy then for respect reasons they'll keep him at SS, but if Bo is out, then Gimenez at SS is the way to go. If you're going to pay someone $20M a year with that skill set, then it should be at a premium position, but that's a 2026-beyond issue.
  17. It's weird after watching Doc all those years to feel like a complete game is a unicorn but that's how the game is now. Gausman was fantastic. If he's back to 2022-23 form then he's your ace.
  18. Gausman reverting back to ace mode. Love to see it.
  19. DS won't start another game for at least 5-6 days, but glad he's making the time he does play count.
  20. Yeah I doubt JS would intentionally bury someone on the bench that the FO actually wants to see play. For some reason they are telling JS to prioritize IKF and others over DS. What that reason is or could be is anyone's guess.
  21. John Schneider having to write "Davis Schneider" in the lineup card had to be one of the most difficult things he's ever done.
  22. FG updated their numbers, so here's Hoffman's updated "Since May 1" numbers from above: -1.1 WAR 47.0 IP 5.94 ERA 6.06 FIP 10.91 K/9 3.83 BB/9 14 HR By far the worst WAR of all RPs since May 1, with the 2nd worst being Genesis Cabrera at -0.8. Good company to be in for your closer. With a manager who is better at pen usage (in other words, not the Blue Jays), a committee could work. Ex, Dominguez in games where it's a bunch of RHB, Fisher when it's RHB + LHB, Little when it's LHB, etc. Not the sexiest way to do it, but probably the best way to optimize performance rather than throwing Hoffman out there every other day and hoping the 110 mph missiles he gives up don't clear the fence. Otherwise I agree. Unless the bullpen collectively has the mother of all hot streaks in October, that's going to be the team's downfall. Not only is the pen widely inconsistent, but Schneider goes to them early and often, and that will only intensify in the post season. Have to hope the pen collectively goes bonkers (in a good way) come October. Not impossible by any means.
  23. I'm curious about this as well. Two of his HR's this season have been against position players, so the numbers are probably skewed on top of the team putting him in what they perceive to be more favorable matchups, but I have no idea why the team seems so hesitant to use him even in late game situations against a LHP. IKF is awful against LHP. Among players with at least 100 PA against LHP this season, he has the 4th worst wRC+ in baseball (41 wRC+ in 111 PA). What analytic could they possibly be looking at to rationalize that decision making (doing it twice in 2 days, no less)? If the team doesn't like having a hitter with a 28-30 K% and a poor hit tool then I'm not sure what DS is even doing on the roster at this point. Loperfido shaved 10% off his K% from last season and he's clearly been working on reducing swing and miss, so maybe that gives him some brownie points with the org. DS just wants to barrel everything and draw walks. That would have worked under AA/Gibby's Jays, but not this team.
  24. Hoffman since May 1 (probably doesn't factor last night since FG takes a while to update): -0.9 WAR 46.0 IP 5.87 ERA 5.88 FIP 10.96 K/9 3.91 BB/9 13 HR That's not ideal. Maybe it's partly a product of being overworked (Schneider tends to baby starters and abuse relievers), but it's mind boggling at this point that he's still considered the closer/relief ace on the team.
