  1. O’s now up 4-2. Still batting bot 7.
  2. $15.5M for 80 innings of barely above replacement level performance. Verlander would have been the better geezer to sign. Between Max and negative WAR Hoffman + Santander, plus 70 wRC+ Gimenez, it's actually amazing that the team is where they are when almost all of their off season moves flopped. Without looking it up, I'm guessing Straw has a higher WAR than Tony, Max, Gimenez, Garcia, and Sandlin combined.
  3. Wow just saw the score. Keep Max as far away from a playoff rotation as possible. Playoff rotation: Gausman, Bieber, Yesavage, and then a bullpen day.
  4. Kinda hope they save the drunken celebration for the division win, but it's a long season so I can understand them celebrating the playoff clincher, especially given how last season turned out. Thankfully the rosters only expand by 2 players in September, so there's no way to put out a "Gibby 2015" lineup out there for 2 straight games. Gibby would have put a bunch of us into the lineup if he could after they clinched in 2015.
  5. Yeah April felt like a continuation of 2023-24, but man from May onwards this has been a fun ride. I was expecting this team to be .500, give or take. To go from that expectation to possibly finishing with the best record in the AL is nuts.
  6. Ok fine, so they planned it well ahead of time, days or weeks in advance, with no wiggle room to maneuver after the fact, and still got it wrong. Well intentioned mistakes are still mistakes. Whatever, maybe I’m being too hard on Rogers, and hopefully none of this matters as the Jays will clinch before next Friday and hopefully clinch the East before then as well, but more Apple TV games than necessary is not fun.
  7. We will agree to disagree. I don't think Apple would have put a timeframe on when Rogers could ask for a simulcast, so if Rogers waited like 2 hours, they would have known that tonight's game wouldn't be the clincher. Even if they did, it still did not end up with the right outcome for Rogers. Whatever. I just found out that T-Mobile customers get Apple TV free, so I'll be able to watch both games for free now. Rogers can't hurt me.
  8. Or Rogers could have waited to see if tonight’s game meant anything before swinging the deal in the first place. I don’t live in Canada so I don’t really care what Rogers does but putting an additional game on Apple just because they don’t know how magic numbers work (or don’t have the patience to wait to see if the game would have mattered) is not very bright.
  9. So now thanks to Rogers I can't watch next Friday's game on my phone via MLBTV because they made this stupid deal thinking that tonight's game would be the playoff clincher. Next Friday's game might actually be more important.
  10. If you told me before this series that it would be a split, then I probably would have been happy with it, more so because the Jays couldn't win in Tampa on a dare, not because it's a great outcome. But whatever. Take 2/3 in KC now, and then go back home with a chance to put it away.
  11. Man I don't care if it means having the worst OF defense of all time, if Bo is ready by Game 1 of the playoffs, then put him at DH and let Springer/Tony cosplay as outfielders.
  12. The Jays winning the first 2 games in Tampa in a 4 game series rather than a 3 game series is painfully on brand. A 4 game series gives the Baseball Gods enough time to reverse course and not have the Jays win the series.
  13. 2 games in a series with Laz behind the plate seems like a punishment to baseball fans everywhere.
  14. Schneider is probably going to use a reliever an inning. That's his usual style, and they may not want to use Lauer as a long man since he's now the 2nd lefty. Have to hope Bassitt can get through at least 5 here.
  15. Bassitt has to take one on the chin and eat up innings here.
  16. I think most people, me included, were thrilled to get the Twins as an opponent in 2023 given the alternative (the Rays), and that still led to an embarrassing two game sweep. My mindset now is get the bye, clinch the best record in the AL so that home field is guaranteed throughout the AL side of the playoffs, and whatever that leads to in terms of opponents is what it is. Luckily if the Jays continue to have a good week then they should be able to get the best record and avoid a 2015 situation where the Royals ended up overtaking them in the final 4 games of the season (home field against the Royals in the ALCS that year could have changed that series completely).
  17. The Jays treat veterans with a lot of respect but I don’t think we have to worry about Berrios making the playoff roster. The org seems very aware of what he is and where he fits in the current depth chart.
  18. Give Hoffman a few days off, JS. One step closer.
  19. A big drop in velo for a guy who has clearly been overused is not good.
  20. Hoffman throwing 94 now. What could go wrong?
  21. At least they got that call right.
  22. Bo’s out for the regular season. The bye may help get him back by the start of the playoffs but depends on how he recovers. Tough spot for him to be in during a free agent year.
  23. Bo's defense and sprint speed was bad when he was healthy. If he comes back in time for the playoffs then he shouldn't even touch a glove. Put him at DH and work around that. If Tony also comes back then the OF defense would take a massive hit (Springer and Tony in the corners) but it's still the best lineup they could put out there.
  24. I tend to agree. I thought the market was going to be tougher on Bo than people thought before the injury (big spending teams don’t need SS’s other than the Dodgers who will likely aim higher for someone like Tucker). With a knee injury on top of the other caveats (bad defense, declining athleticism/speed, etc), I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s back with the Jays on some type of 1+1 deal. At that point the Jays would have no reason to accommodate his ego so hopefully if that happens they put him somewhere other than SS. But on a straight long term deal, I would move on.
  25. Martinez is out of options next season, by all accounts sucks on defense anywhere he plays, and now can’t hit after a PED suspension. Maybe he figures it out somewhere else but given where the Jays are now as an organization, they had no reason to hold on to him. If he still had options after this season then maybe they would have handled it differently.
