  1. Yeah if they didn't want to start Barger, then DS playing 2B made more sense with Lukes or Straw in the OF. In the last 3 seasons, IKF has a 65 wRC+ against LHP. The Jays being an analytical team but yet making a decision that is clearly "dude bats righty, so put him in there" is ridiculous. Unless they think the defensive upgrade is worth more than the noodle bat, which they might. Then again, Ned Yost started Alcidis Escobar and batted him lead off when they won the title, so maybe this is JS trying to appease the Baseball Gods.
  2. Of course IKF is starting. He literally can't hit LHP. Have to hope the rest of the offense compensates like last time.
  3. As long as IKF isn't starting, I think I'm fine with any lineup they put out there. JS will pinch hit anyway if necessary. Just keep IKF's ass on the bench until/unless defense is needed later.
  4. After seeing Lauer and Nance get nuked last game, I’m not sure I want a bullpen game on the road so close this one out tonight.
  5. What a game. Vlad with a signature home run moment and the offense clicking on all cylinders. They have been a great home team all season and more average on the road, so the series isn't over yet, but being up 2-0 gives them some wiggle room. Go for the kill on Tuesday and avoid the bullpen game in Game 4.
  6. Thankfully they have Fisher, Nance, Fluharty, and Yariel that could all use an inning, so they don’t have to punt any further (Bruihl sucks).
  7. IKF is 4-8 lifetime against Fried. Maybe that was the rationale. Otherwise it's not what I would have done. IKF should never be starting a playoff game. Defensive sub? Fine. Beyond that, no.
  8. Hoffman throwing 97 is a good sign.
  9. Padding the run differential while Michael Kay wipes tears from his eyes on the YES post game.
  10. This is the right move. Game 3 will either be trying to save the season (down 0-2), a swing game (tied 1-1), or wanting to rip their hearts out (up 2-0). I want Bieber in that spot on the road, with the ability to use Yesavage on regular rest in Game 5 out of the bullpen if necessary.
  11. Yeah surprised at least one of them didn't make it on the roster. Both of them off of it is a great sign as it means the Jays are prioritizing winning over feelings. Not always easy to tell big league vetrins that they are not needed, and the Jays had to tell $55M worth of them to sit at home (Bassitt/Max/Berrios), including a future HOF. Good sign though. Put the best team on the field. Bullpen + Lauer is likely better as the Game 4 starter.
  12. 1. Gausman 2. Yesavage 3. Bieber 4. Varland + Lauer, Bassitt, whoever (basically a bullpen game) 5. Gausman with Yesavage available out of the pen.
  13. Jays winning the series 3-1 but doing it with a negative run differential is the only appropriate way to win the series.
  14. So I guess Yankees rotation in the DS will be Gil, Fried, Rodon, and Schlittler in that order. Getting Game 1 is going to be super important.
  15. Next year's WC Round will be on NBC/Peacock instead of ESPN/ABC. Obviously ESPN wants the games to be staggered so that there's minimal overlap in order to maximize viewers, but I wonder if a streamer (Peacock) would care about that? Like if they started all the WC games in prime time locally next year, and all of them aired on Peacock, then I doubt Peacock would care that there's an overlap because people would be using their app regardless. Start all the games at 6-7 pm local time, maybe air the biggest one on NBC, and the rest on Peacock. That would also avoid the non sellout crowds for playoff games, as 1 pm playoff games on a Tuesday/Wednesday is kinda a slap in the face to fans who work/go to school. Us diehards who work from home love the all day MLB format, but it's probably not the best to maximize local viewership or national viewership.
  16. Nah, Tigers/Guardians is an awful matchup for a national audience. It was buried at 1 pm for a reason. I don’t think that would have gotten an audience on prime time. I hate the 8 pm start time for a series that I actually want to watch (NYY/BOS), as I thought 6 pm was great, but in terms of getting the most eye balls, that was a no brainer decision.
  17. I expect the Dodgers to win tonight, but would be pretty cool to have 4 winner take all games tomorrow. Plus I really enjoy the 6 pm start times for games, so would prefer Yankees/Red Sox be at 6 again tomorrow (if the Dodgers win then the Yankees/Red Sox game will be at 8 pm).
  18. If anyone here happens to be a little league coach and wants to show kids how NOT to slide into a base, then that Bo slide into home should be study material. I don't recall seeing a slide like that. Maybe it's happened before, but I certainly don't remember it.
  19. The Yankees should have definitely pinch ran for Goldschmidt regardless of it being a 2 run game. As mentioned a faster/better base runner could potentially change the dynamic of that inning (take an extra base, score on a fly ball, etc). It matters. Boone was a slave to his team’s analytics tonight. Pulling Fried when he did was absurd. JS likes going to the bullpen as soon as possible too but I think even he would have waited for a base runner first in that spot, I guess we will see in the DS. The Yankees aren’t out of it, Rodon/Bello favors the Yankees, and they have Schlittler (or however you spell it) going in Game 3 if it gets there. Ideal scenario for the Jays would be the series going 3, so let’s hope.
  20. The Yankees and Dodgers getting prime time is probably more of an ESPN call as they own the rights to the games and those games will do the best numbers but yeah MLB probably doesn’t care either way. There’s no right answer. The NBA has every playoff game on prime time but the playoffs last for 2.5 months. That’s just not feasible for baseball for a number of reasons. So the alternative is staggering the games throughout the day to maximize viewership as best they can and also end the WC round in 3 days. I think the real solution here is changing the days. The Wild Card Round starts on a Tuesday and the World Series starts on a Friday. They should flip that around. The WC round being on Fri-Sat-Sun would make the “all day” format more logical. Ultimately, much like Adam Silver is terrified of the NFL, Manfred and/or the network are likely trying to avoid them as much as possible as well.
  21. If they don't want Bieber going on 4 days rest (they pushed him back a day last week when their lives were on the line), then I think you either start him in Game 1 so he can come back on 5 days rest for Game 5 or start him in Game 3 on the road. Yesavage in Game 2 at home might be advantageous to a young kid, and he can come out of the pen in a Game 5 if necessary in that scenario. I think they go with Bassitt in one of the games, but I'd probably lean opener for Game 4 with Lauer as the bulk guy. Worked very well against the Red Sox last time, and not sure I'd want Max to start at all or Bassitt to start a road game given their numbers this season.
  22. I know they spread the games out like this to avoid overlap as much as possible, but must suck for Padres fans to have to watch playoff baseball at noon local time on weekdays. I work remotely so I know what I'll be doing all day the next couple of days.
  23. I feel like they’ll go with Yesavage and Bassitt (in whichever order) after Gausman and Bieber. Maybe Max out of the pen out of respect to him, but I can’t imagine he starts a playoff game after the way he looked down the stretch.
  24. After hoping for the Twins and getting them in 2023, only for an embarrassing 2 game sweep out of Minnesota, I really don't care who the Jays face. Getting the bye and home field was super important as they play (and hit) a lot better at home. That was their their best shot of winning anything in October and they got it. Whatever happens from there happens.
