  1. They needed to replace Lukes in the 3rd inning of a 1 run game, where they clearly need offense, but choose to put in Straw instead of DS. Then JS can’t wait to pull Gausman but waits to take him out when Polanco (150 wRC+ against LHP) is up and brings in Little (a LHP) to face him. This series is almost a continuation of 2022 so far. Really need to bats to get going. Whatever magic formula JS has against the Yankees clearly does not work against Seattle.
  2. John Schneider when he manages against the Mariners loses every brain cell he has.
  3. Yeah none of the 4 teams left feel out of place being in this spot. Easily 4 of the top 6 teams in baseball, and the only other teams in that group (NYY/PHI) were eliminated by 2 of the 4 teams still left. That's all you could really ask for. Should be some really good baseball.
  4. It sucks but not surprised. Bo coming back seemed very unlikely. Just have to find a way without him. That video doesn't make it look like even being a pinch hitting option is all that realistic.
  5. Last 3+ playoff games in Seattle: 1-0, 18 innings (2022) 3-2, 11 innings 3-2, 9 innings 2-2, top 11 (in progress)
  6. The Mariners can't hit at home, the Tigers are mid anywhere, and there's no ghost runner. This game could go on a long time.
  7. Trying to rationalize why IKF is starting against Tarik Skubal is a terrifying thought.
  8. If the Jays were eliminated from the playoffs like that, I'd be inconsolable for a few days. Wow. Given how Philly fans are, I hope Kerkering doesn't go back there any time before April.
  9. I haven't followed the Bichette updates that closely, but I'd be shocked if he comes back this season. I get them keeping their options open, and even as a DH he'd still be a massive upgrade, but it seems more like wishful thinking. Nevermind the fact that he hasn't seen live pitching in weeks (he'd have to go straight from that to playoff pitching), and prior to his injury he would have lost a foot race to Vladdy by a significant margin, so I can't imagine how useful he'd be as a base runner. Might have to just hope the team can win without him, but obviously if he's good enough to DH and not be compromised on the bases, then you have to go for it.
  10. As long as he's healthy, he's opting out, IMO. Even if he opted out and had trouble getting a long term deal, I don't think teams would balk at a 1/16 deal for him if he had to settle for that. Hell, he gets $4M just for opting out. Ultimately my guess is he will end up a "hired gun", regardless of what happens the rest of the way. Which is fine. I'm probably less enthused about extending him now than I was two months ago, but there's still time for him to rewrite his Jays history.
  11. Vladdy hating the Yankees with all of his heart and soul is awesome.
  12. Absolutely unbelievable win. JS masterclass. Love this team.
  13. Thank goodness. I guess Fisher, Little, and Hoffman to try to end it? Or is Yesavage an option?
  14. Don’t like this move. Yariel wasn’t good to end the season and Lauer was pitching well.
  15. Lauer eating up 2-3 innings (assuming he’s effective and JS allows him) would be huge.
  16. JS is going to make a bunch of panic pitching changes. Whatever plan they have, let’s see if he stays with it. Have a feeling they already know Yesavage is coming in at some point.
  17. The playoff crowds this post season have been amazing. Loud and passionate. Can't ask for a better atmosphere.
  18. Not a fan of using Yesavage tonight. Go with what you have, and if it doesn't work, then go with a Gausman/Yesavage tandem in Game 5 and hope for the the best. Giving JS the green light to use anyone is terrifying because he absolutely will. If it's late and the Jays are leading and Yesavage is the best option they have left, then that's one thing, but otherwise save him for a possible Game 5. The Yankees seeing nothing but splitters all day Friday (if it gets there) on the road should be the goal.
  19. Tony had his breakout year in 2022. Since then... as DH 80 wRC+, 581 PA In the field 129 wRC+, 1602 PA Maybe that means nothing, but since Springer seems to be the opposite (prefers being DH from the sounds of it), I think it's probably a reasonable decision to go with that alignment. As long as JS is ready for a defensive replacement late if necessary.
  20. One thing for sure, Schneider going to bring in a LHP to face Bellinger despite the splits. Everything else remains to be seen.
  21. Using Varland for the 4th time in 5 days when I'm pretty sure they knew he was going to be the opener going into the series is strange. Why use him in a blow out in Game 2 then? Last night's game was lost with IKF in the lineup. Not sure if that was a JS call or FO call, or maybe both, but the Baseball Gods were having none of it (IKF error in the 1st, and then the Barger error later in the game, when both are likely avoided with DS at 2B and Straw in the OF, which is the configuration many wanted to begin with). Unfortunately, a lefty is going in Game 5, so IKF starting in a do or die is a pretty safe bet. Win tonight so we don't have to deal with it. I'm not expecting it, I'm actually expecting a laugher for the Yanks unfortunately, but it's baseball, so hopefully baseball happens tonight and the Jays pull it out.
