  1. I'll 100% take the bye and risk whatever timing or "too much rest" issues that come out of it. In this case the extra 5 days will give Bo a chance to get better, and that's very important to this team's ability to move beyond the first round. Even the 2015 team that was loaded lost the first 2 games of the ALDS that year. If that was a 3 game series then that team is forgotten about rather than romanticized. Take the bye and whatever happens from there is what it is.
  2. That was my thought as well. Perfect timing with the off day tomorrow. Get drunk tonight and be ready for Tuesday. Missed the game but amazing accomplishment to clinch a playoff spot and win 90 games given the pre season outlook for this team. Just get Bo and Tony healthy and then hope for the best.
  3. Mariners win the season series against the Astros, so the current 2 game lead is really 3 games. I have extreme Astros fatigue as a baseball fan so no issues with another team taking the West, even if it's the Mariners.
  4. Yankees going 6-1 and Jays going 3-4 is unfortunately a very realistic outcome based on schedules and the Jays injuries. Getting Tony back might help. I still think the Jays get the division, but it's gotten to the point where it's not a certainty and could easily flip. The beauty, and misery, of a baseball season.
  5. I’d like to believe France would be the one let go but will have to see it to believe it. Way more likely to be Joey.
  6. IKF starting against a LHP again, despite having a 71 wRC+ against them in 2024 and 42 wRC+ against them in 2025. Barger is at 71 this season fwiw. I’d like to believe there’s more to JS’s logic than “RHB better matchup vs LHP” but it doesn’t appear there’s much beyond that. Like if you want to start IKf once in a while then doing it against a RHP is a much better matchup.
  7. Lukes has a 99 wRC+, on the year and against RHP, and an 89 wRC+ (86 vs RHP) since June. He's expected to be the team's #2 hitter in the current setup. I think the best thing that can happen to this team is Bo at DH and George + Tony in the OF corners in Game 1.
  8. The 2015 AL was kinda ass. Only 2 teams in the entire league with 90+ wins, and only 2 teams in the AL East above .500. Just gotta get in and hope to get hot at the right time, I guess.
  9. Yeah I don’t think I want to see Scherzer start again, certainly not in a game that matters. Berrios makes sense in the bullpen now because they need someone to throw innings in case Bieber/Yesavage can’t give them length, and Berrios is the only one with enough rest to be able to do it, but if it’s between him and Max in the rotation, then I’m not sure which one I’d go with. Pick your poison.
  10. Nance and Yariel for 40 pitches each, Fisher used, now Little. Scherzer going to cost someone their roster spot tomorrow. Just go with IKF and Heineman for the last 2. Not sure why they are burning any real relievers at this point
  11. When's the earliest a team can go to a position player? If it's now, then do it now.
  12. O’s now up 4-2. Still batting bot 7.
  13. $15.5M for 80 innings of barely above replacement level performance. Verlander would have been the better geezer to sign. Between Max and negative WAR Hoffman + Santander, plus 70 wRC+ Gimenez, it's actually amazing that the team is where they are when almost all of their off season moves flopped. Without looking it up, I'm guessing Straw has a higher WAR than Tony, Max, Gimenez, Garcia, and Sandlin combined.
  14. Wow just saw the score. Keep Max as far away from a playoff rotation as possible. Playoff rotation: Gausman, Bieber, Yesavage, and then a bullpen day.
  15. Kinda hope they save the drunken celebration for the division win, but it's a long season so I can understand them celebrating the playoff clincher, especially given how last season turned out. Thankfully the rosters only expand by 2 players in September, so there's no way to put out a "Gibby 2015" lineup out there for 2 straight games. Gibby would have put a bunch of us into the lineup if he could after they clinched in 2015.
  16. Yeah April felt like a continuation of 2023-24, but man from May onwards this has been a fun ride. I was expecting this team to be .500, give or take. To go from that expectation to possibly finishing with the best record in the AL is nuts.
  17. Ok fine, so they planned it well ahead of time, days or weeks in advance, with no wiggle room to maneuver after the fact, and still got it wrong. Well intentioned mistakes are still mistakes. Whatever, maybe I’m being too hard on Rogers, and hopefully none of this matters as the Jays will clinch before next Friday and hopefully clinch the East before then as well, but more Apple TV games than necessary is not fun.
  18. We will agree to disagree. I don't think Apple would have put a timeframe on when Rogers could ask for a simulcast, so if Rogers waited like 2 hours, they would have known that tonight's game wouldn't be the clincher. Even if they did, it still did not end up with the right outcome for Rogers. Whatever. I just found out that T-Mobile customers get Apple TV free, so I'll be able to watch both games for free now. Rogers can't hurt me.
  19. Or Rogers could have waited to see if tonight’s game meant anything before swinging the deal in the first place. I don’t live in Canada so I don’t really care what Rogers does but putting an additional game on Apple just because they don’t know how magic numbers work (or don’t have the patience to wait to see if the game would have mattered) is not very bright.
  20. So now thanks to Rogers I can't watch next Friday's game on my phone via MLBTV because they made this stupid deal thinking that tonight's game would be the playoff clincher. Next Friday's game might actually be more important.
  21. If you told me before this series that it would be a split, then I probably would have been happy with it, more so because the Jays couldn't win in Tampa on a dare, not because it's a great outcome. But whatever. Take 2/3 in KC now, and then go back home with a chance to put it away.
  22. Man I don't care if it means having the worst OF defense of all time, if Bo is ready by Game 1 of the playoffs, then put him at DH and let Springer/Tony cosplay as outfielders.
  23. The Jays winning the first 2 games in Tampa in a 4 game series rather than a 3 game series is painfully on brand. A 4 game series gives the Baseball Gods enough time to reverse course and not have the Jays win the series.
  24. 2 games in a series with Laz behind the plate seems like a punishment to baseball fans everywhere.
  25. Schneider is probably going to use a reliever an inning. That's his usual style, and they may not want to use Lauer as a long man since he's now the 2nd lefty. Have to hope Bassitt can get through at least 5 here.
