  1. Little with 2 runners on and 1 out. No stress or anything.
  2. It was definitely ego driven to send Lauer to the pen, can't really send any of the other 5 there, but probably not the most egregious decision. I don't know if Lauer would have been able to sustain his performance enough to justify a 6 man rotation down the stretch. Besides that, Berrios has been here for a few years with a big contract, and Bassitt is an impending FA (demoting him to the pen would hurt him in other ways), so Lauer really had no shot. Giving up 17 home runs in his last start at least made the decision a little easier.
  3. Yeah would be very disappointing if Yesavage wasn't added. There isn't much the Jays can do to add upside to the roster the rest of the way. He's one of the only (or the only) way to actually do it. No guarantee he would be effective, but still a move that should be (or should have been) made.
  4. Get the noose ready. IKF is 100% someone Schneider will start a few times a week at a minimum.
  5. Schneider would take a bullet before he sits Clement, and don't think Gimenez against RHP is in any danger of losing playing time. IKF has a 37 wRC+ against LHP this season, but he bats right handed, so I guess that makes a Gimenez/IKF platoon something they'll end up doing. I really don't see the fit there other than wanting to double down on more defense.
  6. Honestly at this rate I’d be tempted to call up Yesavage and pray he turns into a good RP for a month. Other than calling up Fisher, which will be pointless because Schneider doesn’t view him as anything special, there’s not much the team can do. Hoffman should not be the closer though. Maybe make the closer spot a fluid situation based on what batters are up in the 9th rather than go to Hoffman because it’s the 9th or a “sAvE sItUaTiOn”.
  7. I don’t understand why the same manager who couldn’t pick Braydon Fisher out of a lineup despite his results seems to have unwavering confidence in Varland who has only been a good reliever for 4 months of his career (on another team). Varland gave up runs in the Miami game that eventually went to extra innings, then the Twins game which Hoffman eventually blew, and now this. Fix him, then start using him in high leverage again.
  8. Yeah not sure I like Varland in this spot.
  9. This is Bieber’s 2nd start. He likely wasn’t going to throw 100 pitches. Unfortunately the Jays pen has not been good lately. The Jays will probably need a lot of help from the White Sox and Pirates this weekend, and that’s terrifying.
  10. The Jays don’t like facing bad teams apparently, so this matchup is probably good for them. Should be a bunch of hard fought games.
  11. Yeah setting up a relationship for a 2026 minor league deal would make more sense than expecting him to accomplish anything here in a few weeks. He’s still relatively young and is apparently showing good exit velo’s in the minors, so let Popkins work with him next spring and see what happens.
  12. 24 hours after the gut punch of losing game 2 of this series and the Jays have the best record in the AL. Baseball. Wins are wins, and another game off the schedule. Doesn’t matter how you get them at this point.
  13. Barger’s wRC+ dangerously heading towards 100. He’s been on a big time slump.
  14. Yeah he’s had a long lay off and he was doing well before that. May have hurt him. He was clearly overachieving but sucks for him to be put in this spot.
  15. If Lauer were throwing a perfect game through 6 innings on 54 pitches, then Schneider would have pulled him, but when Lauer is giving up 10 home runs in a start, that’s when JS wants more length.
  16. Giving a washed vetrin to John Schneider is one of the most terrifying things you can do, even more so during a competitive season. Loperfido played some limited 1B in the minors IIRC, so if they wanted someone to stand there in place of Vlad every once in a while then there were internal options that were better or no worse than France. Demoting Fisher and then shortening the pen due to an extra starter was a very dangerous scenario, and the worst case has happened with the high leverage guys struggling. Fisher is giving me 2015 Liam Hendriks vibes as a good RP who the manager doesn’t view as one (or doesn’t trust as one). Not sure why he was demoted while Varland is given high leverage spots regardless of performance. Fluharty was the one with options to send down. The Jays don’t have an easy schedule down the stretch so losing games like last night are back breakers. Hopefully they can win the series tonight.
  17. Bieber, Scherzer, and Gausman in that order for me. The 4th depends on matchup, who is hot, etc.
  18. Wow that's a nice start. This team is different at home. Makes HFA so critical to get.
  19. Clement has a 67 wRC+ in his last 51 games, and his numbers against LHP haven't even been good over that span (72 wRC+). That stretch makes up about 46% of his total season PA's, so he hasn't been good for a while. Not sure why a day off for him is once in a lifetime, but guys like Barger, DS, etc, can get extra rest and/or be platooned. I know this team values defense heavily, and Clement is great defensively, but at some point you might want to mix things up a bit.
  20. Astros and Tigers both lost. Now just need a Red Sox loss since they are the closest to the Jays in the East standings, and all will be fine.
  21. The Jays facing a good pitcher with this lineup was never going to be a high probability win. Let Gausman and Schultz finish this game and get ready for the next series.
  22. Ty France is batting cleanup instead of Varsho, while Clement is batting 6th against a RHP when he hasn’t hit them all season and is hitting ahead of players who have hit them much better (Gimenez, DS). JS has been doing stuff like this all season and it has been working, so I guess we should just embrace our Ned Yost.
  23. I think Jays and Tigers have to be in the same division with realignment. Guardians would make sense as well. The 4th team in that scenario is harder to figure out.
  24. Wheeler is not only a regular season ace but a playoff ace as well. His post season numbers are excellent. Huge blow for the Phillies.
