  1. They are probably better off adding two SP's, and letting Lauer/Manoah/Yesavage battle for the 5th spot. Berrios is already a ticking time bomb, so having him plus two of Lauer/Manoah/Yesavage/Francis/etc in the rotation is asking for trouble. Ideal scenario would be re-signing Bieber and then adding a 2nd big FA (Suarez?). They could probably afford to go a bit cheaper on the position player end given their depth there, but no chance I'd want to go cheap on the rotation.
  2. It's crazy that the easiest solution would be Clement at SS, Barger at 3B, and DS/Straw in the OF, but it will be IKF playing everyday instead. Bad defense and embarrassing sprint speed aside, the Jays can't afford to lose Bo the rest of the way.
  3. John Schneider realizing this means he can have a IKF/Clement left side of the infield for a few days:
  4. Wow I can't believe he couldn't score on that.
  5. If IKF is going to start, then replacing Clement vs RHP is by far the best way to do it.
  6. What a great outing for Gausman. Any time Schneider lets a starter go 8 innings, you know it was a fantastic start.
  7. I'm keeping Gausman in there for the 8th against the bottom of the order + Grisham, but looks like 3 of the next 4 hitters are LHB, so the Brendon Little experience might be coming in the 8th.
  8. Not watching the Jays feed, is John Schneider drenched in nervous sweat as he tries to avoid running to the mound to take the ball out of Gausman's hand?
  9. Don't get swept. As long as the Jays win 1 of the 3, they should be reasonably fine as they'd still have a 2 game lead (3 counting the tiebreaker), but I think 2/3 puts the Jays in the driver's seat. The Yankees schedule is super easy after this HOU/TOR/DET/BOS stretch, while the Jays don't have an easy opponent left other than the O's who have clobbered Jays pitching all year, so the more distance between the two teams by Monday morning would obviously be the best scenario. If the Jays get swept, then it's likely a WC spot in their future. Goes without saying, big f'n series.
  10. 4 games in 5 days. Two of those appearances with a 4 run lead, 1 with a 3 run lead, and the one day he didn't pitch in that stretch was when the Jays were up 2 in the 9th and ended up blowing it.
  11. If Hoffman comes in tonight, then it would be the 6th time this season where he'll throw 4 times in 5 days. Wonder if other teams do this. I don't follow other bullpens close enough to know, but that seems like a lot.
  12. Varland does give up a lot of hard contact, way too much of it.
  13. If the Jays had just trusted Nance to finish the last inning, then they likely could have finished the game with Borucki and Tate. Instead, Schneider doing his best Little League managing where everyone gets a chance to play, puts Borucki into the game early unnecessarily, which forces Varland to get warmed up when it looked like Borucki was going to blow it, and now they have to use Varland for the 3rd time in 4 days in a 6 run game. Hard to blame the relievers entirely when it seems like Schneider goes out of his way to overwork them.
  14. Schneider managing in October is legit one of the scariest things in baseball.
  15. IKF DFA'd, and immediately starts a game for the Jays (almost lost it for them). Borucki DFA'd, gets called up, and immediately comes into a high leverage spot (which he might blow). Let Schneider be a minor league manager. This s*** doesn't work in the big leagues.
  16. John Schneider thinks TJ Friedl is Ohtani with the way he refuses to let Nance face him.
  17. Bieber going 6 innings here would be huge, but that still means 3 innings from the pen. Jays bats need to keep going.
  18. Barger really needed that. Brand new game.
  19. Barger in the last 2 months has a 0 WAR and 73 wRC+ in 50 games (192 PA). If you want a LHB in the #2 spot then might as well put Varsho there at this point.
  20. If all goes well with Tony's rehab, then I'm curious to see how they structure the lineup, both in terms of batting order and defense.
  21. IKF was a brilliant add for this team because now I'll never question any lineup moving forward as long as IKF is not in it. Literally start anyone except IKF, and I'll be happy.
  22. The Yankees series in particular is must win. NYY's last 13 games are a cakewalk. The "easiest" part of the Jays remaining schedule is the Orioles (who have beat up Jays pitching this season) and the Rays (who have beaten the Jays every year since the beginning of time). Jays fans aren't used to pennant race baseball, so it's going to get really stressful for a couple of weeks.
  23. Sounds like he would need to be an injury replacement in order to qualify for that, and BNS was pretty confident that it would get approved by MLB. So maybe a phantom IL stint coming up for someone?
