  1. Gausman scenarios based on today's outcomes: 1. Jays win, Yankees win: Gausman starts Sunday. 2. Jays lose, Yankees lose: Gausman starts Sunday. 3. Jays lose, Yankees win: Gausman does not pitch Sunday, is saved for Tuesday. 4. Jays win, Yankees lose: Gausman pitches at least a little bit (since his next start would be next Saturday) I'd be shocked if the Yankees lose today, so looking at either options 1 or 3.
  2. Judge hit his 53rd HR this season. Vlad has 53 HR combined in 2024 and 2025. I don't know if that says more about how incredible Judge is, or how underwhelming Vlad has been as a power hitter given his tools/expectations. Maybe both.
  3. I get the feeling that the Yankees are going to win out. The Jays can’t depend on anyone, just have to find a way to win these next 2 games. Sugano at Yankee Stadium isn’t something I’m going to be relying on.
  4. This might have made up for the Springer foul ball game. A competent ump behind the plate and Hoffman probably walks 4 batters that inning at a minimum, and there's no chance Schneider would have pulled him until the Rays took the lead. Whoever that HP ump was, thank you my friend.
  5. Umpire is trying to help Hoffman and Hoff is still screwing this up.
  6. Stanton is clutch in the biggest moments. Judge hasn't been, at least in October, but he might as well be Mr. October compared to Vlad.
  7. Rogers wanted to simulcast the game in case the Jays clinched a playoff spot and got to bathe each other in alcohol afterwards. Maybe they made a deal with Apple where if the Jays clinched, then Apple would keep rolling and air the celebration as well. They probably made that trade days earlier and there was no take backsies after realizing the game meant nothing. Really was a bad deal. The fact that they made that trade and then the Jays proceeded to collapse like they have which made tonight's game 100 times more important than last week's might be the Baseball Gods coming into play. Rogers got too cocky and the Gods had to intervene.
  8. Apple deserves some credit for "trading" (while still showing) last week's game that was over by the 1st inning and a boring matchup/atmosphere in general for this game which will have a packed stadium and division title significance on the line. As far as the game itself, I thought we were done with Houser, but I guess not. Confident in the starters the Jays have going, but not confident at all with the bats. Hopefully last night was the wake up call they needed.
  9. Bad luck there with Santander, but you can see how much of a difference he can make to the lineup. One dimensional but the Jays need that more than anything else.
  10. That's the best I've seen Varland as a Jay. Much needed. Need the bats to do something.
  11. Vlad has a career playoff wRC+ of 8. He's starting early this time.
  12. My guess is they'll try for 2 each from Varland and Lauer, and then go 1 inning/3 batters/mix and match with everyone else. These are the types of games John Schneider lives for. Getting to use the entire pen intentionally.
  13. It is suspicious timing right before a bullpen game putting a pitcher they won't use again on the IL for a fresh arm, but if it's a legit elbow injury, then might actually be a good thing as weird as that is to say. As mentioned above, Berrios' velo and stuff has declined badly this season, and there's no chance in hell that he's opting out of 2/48 after next season, so if an injury is causing the red flags in his profile then at least there's hope for some kind of turnaround. If he was healthy and the same guy with just diminished stuff and velocity, then it would be 3 more years of Tanner Roark on a big money contract.
  14. I'm just not sure why they didn't use Berrios for 4 innings last night after Scherzer. If you knew the next day was going to be a bullpen game where you needed everyone, then I don't get why you'd use Little down 4-0 and then Nance in the 9th. Oh well.
  15. Yeah don't use Gausman on Sunday unless both teams are tied on Sunday morning. Or if by some miracle the Jays are 1 game up on Sunday morning, then maybe you give Gausman a short start on Sunday just to keep him on schedule since he'll have another 5 days off before Game 1 of the DS. Lose tonight and go into the weekend 1 game back, and I'm probably preparing for a WC round, but worry about that on Sunday morning. If Bieber can go on 4 days rest, and they're just using him Friday for some specific reason, then he should be ready for next Wednesday and Yesavage on Thursday if necessary. Gausman being ready for Tuesday is the question. Using him on Sunday and then having to play Tuesday would be a disaster, especially since pushing Bieber back a day means he can't go in Game 1 of a WC series.
  16. So the Jays win the next 3 games, the Yankees go 2-1, and then Sunday is stress free, right?
  17. Bieber going tomorrow would have lined him up to be the Game 1 starter for a WC round if it got to that. Now he's pitching Game 2 at the earliest, Yesavage Game 3 at the earliest, and Gausman may not even be available if he has to pitch Sunday. Insane how quickly this season turned upside down.
  18. They are pushing Bieber back a day, but probably need Berrios tonight to eat up innings, so a s*** about to happen.
  19. Bieber-Yesavage-Gausman in the Rays series, followed by having to play in the WC round where Gausman can't go at all and Max Scherzer is starting Game 1.
  20. In order to clinch by Friday the Jays would have to win both games the next 2 days (despite being underdogs in the pitching matchups) and the Yankees would have to lose both (despite being massive favorites against one of the worst teams in the league). As amazing as that would be, I don't think there's a chance in hell of that happening. If anything, this probably increases the chances of the Jays losing both games. I don't get it. If Bieber and Yesavage both need an extra day of rest, then what happens next week if the Jays are playing in the WC round?
  21. I don't know what to make of this. Now you're hoping a washed Scherzer who is tipping every pitch he throws + Berrios whose Stuff+ is declining every year can beat a Red Sox team that is primed for the post season, while the Yankees are throwing their two best SPs against one of the worst teams in baseball. The weekend games won't matter much if you lose these next 2. Bieber tomorrow would have been the better option, but maybe it's health related or something.
  22. That's how John Schneider's brain works unfortunately, but to be fair to him he doesn't deserve all the blame there. The Jays could have added a RHB who can mash LHP (ex. Miguel Andujar) for nothing at the deadline, but chose a RHB that can't hit either side but is great defensively at 1B. Their idea of IF depth was IKF, who bats RH but is one of the worst hitters in MLB against LHP so he has no value at the plate. Then there's Straw who has done WAY better than anyone could have hoped for but there's no way he should be starting against Crochet in a game like this. Even if JS knew how to put a lineup together based on platoon splits, he doesn't have the personnel to pull it off effectively. Making matters worse is the other side of the platoons (Barger, Lukes) have stunk recently. DS is the only one who has been playing well against both sides, but JS practically salivates at the thought of pinch hitting for him any chance he gets.
  23. Tony is back finally. IKF with a 39 wRC+ against LHP this season (71 last season) in the lineup against an elite LHP is John Schneider in a nutshell.
  24. Yankees have Fried and Rodon facing the s***** White Sox the next 2 nights, while a struggling Jays offense faces Crochet and Bello. I mean let's try to be nice to the Jays and say they split the next 2, then that means (barring a miracle from the White Sox), it would be tied heading into the weekend. I can't see a scenario where Gausman isn't starting on Sunday with the division on the line if that happens. Every game from here on out is must win, but I think tonight is bigger than the others based on the pitching matchup. Bello is solid but beatable. Crochet is a Cy Young candidate. Win tonight with IKF and Straw in the lineup (because you know JS is going to do that) then it takes some pressure off.
  25. Yeah a Jays loss + Yankees win tonight probably gives the Yankees the best odds of winning the division. My guess is the Yankees go 4-1 the rest of the way (sweep the CWS and win 2/3 from the O's) so in that scenario the Jays have to go 3-2. Very possible, but a loss tonight would lessen the margin for error. What would suck is if the teams are tied on Sunday morning and the Jays have to use Gausman. If they win, then it's fine since Gaus can start Game 1 of the ALDS on regular rest, but if they use him and have to play the WC round, then I don't even know what they'd do after Bieber in Game 1.
