  1. At this point it seems pretty clear that either the Jays and Stroman are far apart in dollars/term, or the Jays simply don't want him long term. A trade is inevitable, but still a bit surprising that Stro would be so open about it.
  2. McKinney is a jack of no trades. He does nothing well. Can't hit for average, power is not great, can't field, can't run, etc. His minor league numbers when his BABIP wasn't .350 were pretty average to below average across the board. Three teams weren't going to give up on him before his 24th birthday if he was any good. Known s*** taking up a 40 man roster spot versus potential s*** that is years away but might have a 5% chance of being good is an easy decision for a team that was on the verge of scorching earth. McKinney does nothing for this team. If Luciano was in the minors and was putting up decent numbers in A/A+, he'd be a trade asset. Maybe not a huge one, but better than McKinney. If anyone thought McKinney was actually a 2 WAR caliber player then sure, that would be fair. That was a stretch though. I think Teoscar has a better chance of being that type of player than McKinney does, and Teoscar's just as much a long shot. I'm not saying Happ for a low-A ball lotto ticket would have been a good trade, I'm saying it would have been better than getting what we got. Like I said you could sell me on Drury being a buy low candidate (even though I didn't see the point of acquiring him if we were rebuilding), but at least attach him with even a 45 FV prospect or someone with some upside. Putting McKinney in that category even at the time of the trade would have been a stretch.
  3. I haven't read anything about the Phillies except that they won't blow their load for a WC spot. Lots of smoke around Stro and the Yankees, much like Happ and the Yankees last year. That seems like the perfect fit other than the thought of trading with Cashman scaring the ever loving s*** out of me. With Martin out I don't see who the Astros could give up to make a deal worthwhile for the Jays assuming they are not willing to give up Whitley, Tucker, or Alvarez (not happening). If the Yankees are willing to move Deivi Garcia, and that has a lot of smoke around it as well, then that's probably the best the Jays are going to do. Unless the Twins are willing to overpay.
  4. Pretty big indictment of baseball that people just wanted one of these guys to win so they’d get paid. $550k for these two for the next two years is ridiculous.
  5. It won't happen but the league should give Vladdy a mil as well. He won this s***, not Alonso.
  6. Alonso going to win this. Bull s***.
  7. Rooting for Vlad to win officially since it will add a cool mil to his bank account, but he's won this thing regardless as far as # of total HR's hit and the show he put on.
  8. Damn 91 home runs.
  9. Build the league around Vladdy. Personality and hits the ball like a damn monster.
  10. Cashman acquiring him is why I think giving Drury a chance is worth doing. Cashman knows how to find these undervalued gems and Drury had no place on their 40 man after Andujar panned out. With that said, I still would have taken the low minors lottery ticket. Or Drury + a low minors lottery ticket. I'd rather dream on a 19-20 year old's potential, even if the bust potential is high, than know what I'm getting with McKinney (nothing). As far as not being able to judge a trade because we don't know what the other offers were, wouldn't that then work both ways? The Smith for Pannone/Taylor trade (which I liked) can't be viewed positively using that logic because some other team might have been offering something better. We as fans can only judge trades at face value. The natural assumption is that Atkins (and any GM) is going to take the deal which they feel is the best they were offered. Doesn't make it good. Otherwise we can't judge any trades.
  11. McKinney had lost all of the prospect luster he had (if any) and Drury was going to be arb eligible with a 0-1 war track record in the bigs. Trading Happ for Elvis Luciano (equivalent) straight up would have probably been a better deal. Now I’m sure Shatkins had some sort of metrics that said Drury was a breakout candidate, and maybe they will be proven right (I don’t expect him to go anywhere). I hope they are right. Still not a good trade though.
  12. I'm basing this off nothing but once he moves off 3B, he will become a beast offensively. Watch. I mean, he'll probably be a beast anyway, but more beastly.
  13. Having expectations that exceeded Drury and McKinney was not unreasonable. But yes, Giles/Stroman are much greater assets so the return should be better. Hopefully.
  14. Normally he's in the 3rd inning when he reaches 89 pitches. Getting through six with that pitch count is amazing. Let him leave on a high note.
  15. The issue is, the longer they wait to promote Bo, the less sense it makes to call him up. Like why have him up for Aug/Sept in a 100 loss season when waiting until April can add a year of control? They made the right call with Biggio, they called him up early enough where he'll get a fairly large MLB sample this year, but time is ticking with Bichette. Trade Galvis tomorrow. Speed it up.

Yeah we all knew this was possible if not inevitable (re: Kawhi). The options were either keep DeRozan, lose in the 2nd round, and contemplate blowing it up, or make the trade, win a title, and lose Kawhi after a year. I'll take the latter any day of the week. But I won't lie, I hope Kawhi doesn't win with the Clippers. I think he will, they are very deep, but I can be appreciative and salty at the same time.
  17. Richard is the right guy for a tanking team. He sucks but can eat up 5-6 innings.
  18. I hope they option him after this game.
  19. Groshans if he stays healthy and on the path he’s started on might creep up the next year or so as well. The drafting/international signings under Shatkins have been excellent. Well, Warmoth aside, but I have faith that he will be traded for a vetrin someday.
  20. Reminder not to trade for pitching prospects, unless they are the add ons.
  21. LaCava was the (interim) GM when Hendriks was traded. So it was that weird period when Shapiro just took over but didn't pick his GM yet. I saw the logic in the deal to acquire Chavez. No one knew Sanchez was going to be so good, and no one should have expected that amount of good health to the rotation. In a normal year Chavez would have started 15 games as a swing man. That year was not normal. We stayed really, really healthy. Still a bad trade, but for a team with a one year window, I saw some logic behind it.
  22. Seriously, if Giles is healthy and dominating like this, then we should get a huge haul for him. Well, huge by today's standards (meaning a legit top 100 prospect and some intriguing lottery tickets). He's not only great now but has an extra year of control after this one. We need to get a great return here.
  23. He’s actually been pretty careful using Giles all season. I wonder why he suddenly changed. Things were looking too positive. Montoyo around to add unnecessary stress with our best trade asset.
