  1. I would think the Twins would be more likely to trade Larnach and Balazovic, not Kirilloff and Graterol, but if I'm packaging Stro/Giles together, then the latter would have to be it. I still think Atkins trades them separately, but with Giles' injury, maybe combining the two would be better than trading them individually. Teams might be reluctant to trade for Giles alone given his injury, but packaged with Stroman they might be more willing to take that risk.
  2. I think Hudson will get dealt for a Waguespack/Espinal equivalent. Nothing worth getting excited over but depth to add to the farm.
  3. It's an odd numbered year, so Pearce being injured, sucking, or both was inevitable. He'll be great next year.
  4. Yup we are setting ourselves up to be disappointed, but blame The Athletic.
  5. Yeah I don't like Clint, but I think I'd be ok with that trade, although it would be even better if we flipped Frazier to a 3rd team for something + keep Garcia.
  6. Yeah I think James should be used as a SP but the Astros have him in relief, much like the Pirates did with Glasnow. Jays could pick him up and put him in the rotation. Five more years of control after this one. Although if a pitching saavy team like the Astros have him in relief when they have so many SP issues, then maybe that's a sign. I am not a fan of Fisher either (unless he plays an elite CF or something) but he was a former top prospect who has fizzled out. Hard to find a good comparable to Meadows on the Astros who they would realistically trade.
  7. Oh I agree, I am fearing scrolling on Twitter one day soon and seeing Frazier as the centerpiece for Stroman, but he fits the "former top prospect losing a bit of shine" category. Plus he was the#5 pick overall when Shapiro was president in Cleveland so there's that connection. You're right about Loaisga though. He's definitely not the same type of prospect as Glasnow was. Not sure who a good comparable in the Yankees system would be.
  8. Yeah my first thought was Frazier and Loaisga since health permitted they'd both be in the Majors in 2020, and then add a low minors lotto ticket on top of that. Not a deal I would particularly like, but seems to fit the Archer deal model. Not sure how the Astros would stack up similarly? That's a pretty difficult type of deal to pull off successfully. If the Jays are looking for players who can come in and instantly become impact players, good luck. They'll have to guess right on an undervalued talent or two in that case, like Tampa did.
  9. Was the Glasnow/Meadows package even viewed favorably at the time? Obviously in hindsight it looks like a heist as Tampa turned them around almost instantly and turned them into much more valuable players than they were showing in Pittsburgh. It will be very hard to duplicate that. Tampa could probably take members of this forum and turn them into 2 WAR players. Their player development is excellent.
  10. Wall has to be added to the 40 man roster or risk being exposed in the Rule 5. He really should be in AAA right now if they view him as an asset. He has almost 700 PA in AA.
  11. That home run by d'Arnaud looked like a lazy fly ball off the bat. Live by the Yankee Stadium porch, die by it as well.
  12. I think the frustrating part is we don't know how much is Buntoyo and how much is Atkins. Giving Vlad every 3 games off has to be a front office call. I find it hard to believe Montoyo would do that on his own. The three days in a row for Giles seems like more of a Montoyo call, probably out of sheer ignorance, but I understand the logic of Atkins having to communicate that Giles has to be unavailable after two straight games. The bunting obsession? Who knows. Honestly I think we missed out on something potentially amazing with Shapiro as president and AA as GM if AA had any interest in staying. If you blend AA's risk taking and "think big" approach with the farm system building under Shatkins, it could have been interesting. I'm afraid Atkins might be in over his head, but he still has this trade deadline to restore some faith.
  13. Damn I wasn't paying attention to McKinney's AAA numbers since he was sent down, but 14.4 BB%, 14.4 K%, 124 wRC+, .227 ISO. Pretty good. I mean he still probably sucks, but worthy of a promotion over Tellez.
  14. Yeah agreed, it really depends on the farm system. A top 5 prospect on a s***** farm system really doesn't mean much, but the 10th prospect in a stacked system might be the equivalent of a top 5. Either way a healthy Giles should be able to fetch at least one legit top 100 prospect plus a lotto ticket or two. Of course he needs to be healthy and pitching. Cross fingers.
  15. I don’t think Thornton is a SP long term but they really have no choice but to throw him out there. Options are limited. Without Stroman this is going to get a lot uglier.
  16. Agreed: The longer they wait to call him up, the more mid April of next year makes more sense. It sucks and I hope the next CBA changes that but might as well take advantage. The injury likely hurt in terms of ETA as well.
  17. I agree, Bo should be up and playing SS everyday. If they are willing to forgo 2026 by calling him up this season, then the longer they wait the less time they have with him. Seems pointless to hold him back if he's healthy and ready to play SS everyday. If he's not, then maybe that's the answer. Waiting to trade our fringe starting SS for a C+ prospect is a lame answer.
  18. Yeah they look like a really good trade partner for the Jays/Stroman, and Atkins seems to make a lot of trades with them. I just don't know who they can possibly give up to make it worth it for the Jays. Martin would have made sense but he's out for a while. They won't trade Tucker/Whitley/Alvarez. I'd vomit everywhere if we get JBB so hopefully that's not an option. I think I mentioned this before, but acquiring Josh James and putting him in the rotation (HOU currently using him in the pen) might be a decent short term move, but would still need prospects on top of that to make it worthwhile. Astros definitely have the need. Whether they have the trade pieces is the question.
  19. Similar K% at the same level, but Conine is at least killing the ball otherwise. He definitely needs to cut that down or he is going to get exposed as he moves up. Woodman seems to have disappeared. Released by the Cards and no 2019 data. At least he got 2nd round money.
  20. Yeah I noticed that. What's more puzzling is this is the trade deadline thread, and the topic he is accusing me of repeating too much is about how the front office TRADES players at the TRADE DEADLINE. He's gone full Brownie. Apparently you can only bring up a point that Dick and Brownie disagree with once, and only once, otherwise it's deemed too much. But hopefully Dick's anti-tanking "Jim wants to trade everyone" posts continue. That's not repetitive at all.
  21. Less than the times you have mocked "tanking" for years now (even though the Jays are doing just that).
  22. I'll be annoyed because he was used 3 days in row after coming off the DL and then immediately got hurt again, but keeping him instead of selling at 50 cents on the dollar would be fine with me. Disappointing but better than a bad trade.
  23. Agreed but are the offers going to be substantially different a week from now? I think we are close enough to the deadline where teams have an idea whether they are in or not (for the most part) and which prospects they are willing to move. I agree just trading him for the sake of trading him would be wrong, but at the same time waiting to get an offer that probably won't be there even if you wait another week is just risking an injury or worse. Honestly if I have faith in the front office I'd probably be ok with waiting, but Shatkins really scared me after last season.
  24. Yup. The longer they wait, the fewer starts he has with his next team, and they also run the risk of a Ross Atkins "wait until he's injured or sucks before I trade him" situation. I like Stro and want him to stay long term, but that ship has sailed. Move him before his next scheduled start.
