  1. And Sogard is the DH. Lol. Not like they could have put Vlad there, or anything. I get that they want to give young players periodic off days due to the difference in the length of the season between the minors and majors, but DH is a thing, you know. Use it for good purposes, and not to get a utility IF in his twilight into the lineup.
  2. Trade Giles, move Sanchez to the closer role, trade him next July.
  3. Warmoth is a player I would trade for a vet. If his numbers in the minors remain good, sell high.
  4. I'm not sure I'd want Margot if Stroman is going the other way. Maybe as a low risk pickup for a lot less, but not as a piece in return for our best or 2nd best trade asset. I can definitely picture Atkins wanting Logan Allen. He'd be in the rotation right away. I doubt we could get him and Patino together. If we could get one of the two plus a position player prospect, that would be pretty good. I'm guessing Edwards would be asking too much. Atkins likes them big and thick apparently so I'm sure Naylor would interest him.
  5. Not yet. We are used to young players on other teams becoming good right away but some times it takes time for a player to adjust. Regardless we have a catching prospect at practically every level so even if Jansen flops it may not be a huge issue but there’s still time for him. Even if his whole season is bad I say just role with Jansen/McGuire in 2020.
  6. Isn't Shapiro only signed through 2020 as well? It's quite possible that the management structure we see today may not last for much longer, whether by choice or by Rogers wanting to change things up. I'm sure Shapiro would have other options available if he wanted to leave or if ownership decided not to extend him beyond his current deal, but Atkins would be toast.
  7. Should have waited until after the trade deadline. To me, this next month and a half will be the most important in Atkins' tenure. What he gets for Stroman and Giles (and to a lesser extent Sanchez) is going to be critical. If he bombs on the trade returns, then having him around for another year or two will be prolonging the inevitable. If he succeeds, then he gains more leeway and maybe the team's rebuild starts to look a little more promising. Doing it now shows more faith in him than he probably deserves at this point, but whatever.
  8. He was a top prospect in the game with a great minor league track record. Even with the struggles he should be given as much rope as possible. I think he'll figure it out eventually.
  9. Glad he signed with the Cubs who don’t have a good system. Trade Giles to a team with a good farm.
  10. I'm pretty confident that the important picks in this draft will get signed. This isn't the AA regime. Shatkins probably had a pretty good idea who was going to sign before making the picks. Obviously nothing is official until pen to paper, but I think it's a pretty safe bet.
  11. It’s amazing how in a span of a year or two, the Shatkins supporters are suddenly the Sportsnet comments section. If the mariners put Domingo Santana in CF, I hope you white knight for their GM too.
  12. I’ve said before I’m negative about a lot of things right now but Ross Tankins will positively be able to build a team capable of losing 100 games, which seems to be the objective this year. Top 3 pick in 2020 is on lock.
  13. Teoscar apparently starting in CF tonight. Atkins knows how to tank better than seasoned GM's.
  14. The Jays drafted Nick Neal in the 11th round, who is listed at 6'6/285. More Thickness.
  15. Trading with Brian Cashman worked out about how I expected it to. Trading with the Rays will probably have a similar outcome. No thanks.
  16. Yeah I don’t know how his D is or whether he’s a long term option at 2b. If he’s not then it’s less of an issue.
  17. Is Biggio a 2B long term? If so, then playing him in right to get Sogard in the lineup during a rebuilding season is pretty derpy from a development standpoint. Just play the vertrin in right so that Biggio can develop there (if they see him there going forward).
  18. To be fair, if the Jays traded Stroman today, Manoah would be in the front of our rotation tomorrow.
  19. Definitely sounds like DJ Davis.
  20. I’ve been critical of Atkins lately but I feel very confident that he will be able to build a team bad enough to get a top 3 pick. See, I can be positive!
  21. This isn't AA drafting anymore. If Shatkins picked him, then he's probably already a lock to sign.
  22. Does the first round really need to be this long every year? Damn what a waste of time. Just get on with it. MLB can barely get people to attend their games, you think fans are flocking to MLB Network to watch this s***? The NBA draft can get away with it because the fans will see those players in a few months. Half of the first round in MLB will be lucky to reach the Majors. Be more efficient, Manfred.
  23. Damn. Even the head of scouting can't exaggerate to hype the guy up. Between that and Keith Law liking the pick....I don't know what's worse.
