  1. About what, Stroman or Grichuk? I've been pretty consistent with both opinions. Do you truly believe that bringing up Grichuk's deal is irrelevant to this discussion? The front office somehow overpaid a 2 win player in an era of baseball where no one gets overpaid anymore, and yet I can't compare that to them not having success (or possibly interest) in extending better players on the team? I can understand being tired of hearing how bad of a contract it is (and it is!), but it's not like I brought it up for no reason. It's pretty relevant when talking about other players who the team can extend in a similar fashion.
  2. The sad thing is, overpaying Stroman on a 5 year deal is probably more reasonable than giving Grichuk 5/53. Stro is going to be close to a 4 win player this season, and he's routinely above a 3 WAR any time he's been healthy. Why in the world they prioritized Grichuk at a non bargain price and not players like Stro and Giles is baffling to me. They better be able to develop SPs like Cleveland did/does, otherwise this is just going to get a lot uglier before it gets better.
  3. I'm in the same boat, as I think Stro is exactly the type of arm and personality this team needs, but it ain't happening.
  4. Jackson is helping the tank but not eating enough innings. He’s got to be terrible for 5 innings. Richard is probably our tank commander.
  5. One thing with Atkins is he goes after players who other teams don't want to protect on their 40 man roster. Just last trade deadline we saw Paulino, Perez, Wall, Waguespack, Merryweather, McKinney, etc, who other teams gave up either to take off the existing 40 man or to not have to make a decision on that winter. Then this winter we saw it with Thornton who the Astros had to protect prior to the rule 5 or risk losing him. Unfortunately that may be where we have to start as we try to guess the returns on certain players. One would hope that Stro and Giles would be able to net real prospects regardless of 40 man roster implications, but we have to set ourselves up for reality.
  6. Fisher would be a huge letdown but unfortunately I could see that. My guess is Atkins will try to get as much pitching as possible, so if we are talking Astros then probably Bukauskas/Abreu types. Actually, I don't think Atkins has made a bad deal with the Astros (Liriano/Hernandez, Osuna/Giles-Paulino-Perez, and Diaz/Thornton), so dealing with the Astros doesn't scare me as much as if he were talking to Brian Cashman again.
  7. Nah, time for Paulino. I haven’t given up on him as a starter. Time to call him up and see what he has now that we know he’s alive.
  8. I think we need to temper our expectations on the trade returns for Stroman and Giles. I'll give Atkins somewhat of a pass since he's practically never sold high or at the right time on anyone aside from maybe Diaz, so he's always trading from a position of weakness, but he hasn't exactly filled me with optimism as far as trades are concerned, and the league as a whole is not trading top prospects anymore. I'm sure there are still trades out there that will end up being solid overall, but I think we'll be looking at the 45-50 FV area, not anything above that.
  9. I'm rooting for the Yankees. It's good for baseball when they are good, and now that the Jays will suck for a while, I'd rather baseball benefit.
  10. Of course but then you’ll have the headache of dealing with unhappy player and agent. I don’t care about Sanchez, I care about his trade value.
  11. Once Giles is traded, move Sanchez to the closer role. Convince him and Boras that he'll make more money as a reliever than a starter, and then trade him as a RP next summer. Even as a RP rental he'd probably fetch more than as a SP with 1.5 years of control left.
  12. Aaron Sanchez is trash. I thought he'd FIP beat his way to a decent ERA and be able to net something half way decent, but can't put lipstick on this pig.
  13. Morales and DSJ for 3 lotto tickets is a pretty damn good outcome. Better than what we go for Happ. Lol. Can’t complain.
  14. Teoscar Hernandez is the current CF. Alford coming up would actually be a welcomed sight even with his struggles this year.
  15. Grichuk is not a bad player, but you guys will be tripping over yourselves trying to defend this extension for the next few years. He is a 2 win player with a ~6% walk rate. Career 106 wRC+, but 101 since the start of 2016. He's had one really good season and that was 2015. He's no where near that level anymore barring a Smoakian breakout some time soon. I'm sure some are tired of Grichuk and his contract getting criticized often, but when that's the first big extension of this regime during the rebuilding period, and actual difference makers like Stro and Giles are going to be dealt, it's a pretty important talking point.
  16. Nah, wait until they get hurt, or have a really bad month. That's the time to trade them. It worked with JD, Happ, etc. Seriously, Atkins f***ing pisses me off. I can stomach the risk aversion but dude has no idea when to trade guys, and then we have to listen to all the BS excuses about "couldn't predict this or that". The Rays sell high with everyone. That's one of the teams you will compete with going forward, nevermind the Yankees who can have a roster full of AAA players and still kick ass. Please Shatkins do something to make me optimistic about this team. One great trade will restore so much faith!
  17. If Giles is traded for somebody else’s 40 man roster spare parts and I have to listen to posters justifying it because of “reasons”, my head is going to explode.
  18. They offered Edwin 4/80 and he ended up settling for 3/60. I mean, you could argue the Jays should have waited the market out because they clearly misjudged the 1B/DH market by signing Morales and Pearce so soon, but the initial offer was pretty fair.
  19. Poor Archer wasted his prime in a shithole, signed a long extension that guaranteed he'd be underpaid for the rest of his prime, then got traded before he fell off by the organization that signs players almost entirely to trade them when they get old(er). God I hate the Rays.
  20. David Paulino is alive? 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 68 pitches
  21. You know, I didn't like Edwin at 4/80, but damn I wish we waited a bit and got him at 3/60. One fewer year just looked a lot better. Although that means no Nate Pearson, so maybe not.
  22. Merryweather despite his age and injury actually seems like a half way decent prospect to me. Everything I read about him pre injury seems to suggest he was a bit of a sleeper in 2017 before he got hurt, and the velocity is clearly there (he was mid 90s as a SP before he got hurt IIRC). I'm not expecting much, but he looks more interesting than most of the P prospects in the minors right now.
  23. He doesn't make bad trades very often, doesn't trade good prospects, and if you're still not convinced that it is a bad idea, just look at Drury and McKinney's faces as a reminder of the last time Atkins traded with Cashman.
  24. It's one thing to not have faith in either the front office or manager, but to not have faith in both is scary. Atkins better hit a goddamn home run this trade deadline.
