  1. Yeah for whatever reason the Jays like Drury. He has 3 years of control left and an option remaining. I think he'll be here next year as a utility player. McKinney on the other hand is hanging on by a damn thread. No reason he should be on the 40 man for much longer.
  2. Yeah while I'd be scared at the thought of trading Stroman for all pitching prospects, a package of Garcia/Contreras/Gil is probably fair. Not sure Cashman would trade all of that, he's usually pretty stingy trading prospects, but he knows the Yankees have a window right now and the Astros want Stro too, so maybe he'll bend a bit. As long as it's not Clint Frazier coming back, I'm good.
  3. I think it's the opposite. They both suck, but of the two, Drury is the one that wouldn't surprise me if he turned into something. McKinney does nothing well. He literally has no average or better tool. He's bad at everything.
  4. If the Yankees get Stroman, then we are getting Frazier as the main piece. No thank you. Trade with any other team. Lots of teams in contention, especially in the NL.
  5. Well at this point I think it's clear he was the old man that Tampa did not want to fire and not someone who actually believes in their practices.
  6. There isn't much Buntoyo can do about the pitch counts since it takes Thornton 30 pitches to get past 3 batters, but damn the high pitch counts in low innings seem like a really bad combination.
  7. Thornton threw like 80 pitches in two innings in his last start didn’t he? He needs the AS break.
  8. Biggio turning into Matt Carpenter would be amazing. Skill set is similar.
  9. Wow just saw what’s left of Myers’ contract. I can’t see Shatkins taking on $60m and trading their best trade chip unless it’s an amazing haul of prospects.
  10. Grichuk needs to start playing ball in January, that way he's ready to hit in April.
  11. Add Bichette to this group and it's going to get really fun. (the pitching will be a different story)
  12. Yup, but I'm convinced he is a placeholder. No one wanted this job to join a tanking team, so we hired a dude who would have never managed otherwise and will never manage again afterwards. Once 2021 hits, I'll be surprised if he's still here. (I'm telling myself this to make myself feel better).
  13. Realistically, if we took Myers and his s***** deal, what prospects could we get from SD?
  14. Sanchez will probably say he felt good and thought he pitched well and then throw one of his teammates under the bus. No way he’s getting traded now. Have to move him to the pen.
  15. This is what we all wanted this season to be. We knew it wouldn’t be pretty but young players starting to look good. I mean the royals are s*** but even the sweep in NY was entertaining.
  16. It wouldn’t be a Jays trade deadline unless the player being shopped is at lower than normal value so right on schedule. But seriously hope Stro is alright.
  17. Baseball is declining hard in the US so expanding globally is the best way to go. The NBA is going to explode globally soon. MLB needs to lay some groundwork in other parts as well.
  18. "Gurrielbabip is on roids". - future tercet
  19. Hoping the Angels can take one of the WC spots. Trout needs to be in the playoffs for the betterment of the game. He's been out of the spotlight way too long.
  20. Doesn't surprise me. Atkins and the Astros GM seem to have a good relationship (lots of trades between the two), and Stroman seems like someone who would go to the Astros, make a minor tweak, and within a few days become a 2.00 ERA starter. Always saw them as a realistic destination for Stro. Buy low on Josh James (stretch him out to replace Stro in the rotation, 5 more years of control) and tack on some prospects from there.
  21. Vlad's only 20. I expected him to come in and be a beast right away too but it doesn't always happen like that. I'm not worried. I do wish they'd move him off 3B soon though. He'll hit enough to still be elite at 1B. The bat will be more important than any defensive value he will ever provide. Nothing wrong with having him at third this year since the team sucks, but long term I hope the plan is to shift him over.
  22. I usually go to Baseball Reference as they have service time, expected first year of arb, and expected free agency year. But yeah it would be nice for everything to be in one place.
  23. Yeah trading with Cashman would be suicide. Atkins is not on his level. It will be bad. Better than the Happ return, but still bad. The key is to find a team that is desperate to make the playoffs due to either a long playoff drought or a GM with his job on the line. The Padres would be a great trading partner if they stay in it. The Phillies will be desperate after signing Harper as they are falling off now after a good start. The Twins might be willing to trade prospects to capitalize on their window this year. I'm sure there are more that I'm missing. The two teams Atkins seems to do ok with in trades is the Cardinals (Woodman for Diaz, Greene/Leone for Grichuk) and Astros (Liriano for Teoscar, Osuna for Giles/Paulino/Perez, Diaz for Thornton). No major wins there but solid trades overall. Both those teams, unlike Cashman, don't mind trading good prospects in trades. Long story short, there are enough teams not named the Yankees to make trades with.
  24. I agree with all of that. I think Gurriel's emergence has been the thing I've liked the most. He's not this good obviously, but even if he's league average or better with the bat and glove, that's a capable starting OF on this team. If he's better than that, then great. I think Jansen will get better. He's already good with the glove and I feel his bat will eventually turn it around. I really like the Bichette-Biggio-Vlad-Gurriel-Jansen group. It would be nice to add a CF in there who can join them. Haven't completely ruled out Alford but he's getting closer to being an afterthought despite his recent hot streak. He really needs to be up and playing everyday instead of Teoscar. The bad was mentioned in the OP. SP depth sucks. Haven't gotten any contribution yet from AAA starters except Thornton. All the fringy/undervalued pick ups by Atkins, or fringy inherited prospects, have flopped (Drury, McKinney, Teoscar, Brito, Tellez, etc). Gurriel turning into something has at least taken some of the sting away. The Grichuk extension was unnecessary, although his performance this season really doesn't matter all that much. But 2020 and beyond he needs to be effective. I would go into this deeper, but Brownie is already triggered and likely in tears just by reading Grichuk's name mentioned, so I'll expand another time. Atkins has been a mixed bag so far, but like I said before, the trade deadline will either further prove he's not the guy for this role, or it could be his redemption. He needs to hit a grand slam at the deadline. Right now I really just trust the team's drafting and international signings. That could change with a good deadline haul.
