  1. Arte Moreno and the Angels org are a joke. Could have traded Ohtani for a haul, instead this happens. Insanity.
  2. DeJong sucks. He was a -1.0 WAR player in like 2 weeks. You can't keep throwing him out there hoping he corrects things when every win matters. He was depth but s***** depth, which the Jays don't need. Of course, that same logic applies to starting Espinal, but Schneider keeps playing him.
  3. I said at the time there was an argument to be made to trade any of the 3 catchers. Jansen had the fewest years of control, Kirk was a fat slob coming off a great season (2nd half power drop aside), and Moreno had six years of control + upside. The Jays likely preferred keeping the two “vets” and not take a chance on waiting for Moreno to pan out, or they just took what they felt was the best value. Probably both. In hindsight, the fact that Moreno is having a better 2023 than Kirk without the caveat of being incredibly out of shape and slow, it certainly appears that they chose the wrong catcher to trade, but as argued here many times, we don’t know what the offers for Kirk were. I fully expect Varsho to be a 3+ WAR player in CF next season so if he does that then the Jays got what they traded for regardless of how Moreno turns out. If Varsho was in CF in 2023 and there was a better bat in LF, then we might be looking at him differently. They just put him in LF and that put way too much pressure on his bat.
  4. They called him up and didn’t use him for a week on purpose. The Jays are so desperate they have no choice but to play him now. At least he’s on the field when they are still in the race.
  5. Teoscar has a 128 wRC+ in his last 313 PA (since June). He was bad in April and May, and horrendous in July, but great in June and August. Keeping his streakiness alive.
  6. The same logic to starting Schneider at 3B tonight applied a couple of weeks ago when they were trotting out Espinal at 3B and DeJong at SS while Schneider sat on the bench. They could easily have Espinal at 3B tonight, but it would be a bad decision to do so, much like it was before.
  7. I like how Schneider couldn’t play 3B a couple of weeks ago so they felt they needed the Espinal/DeJong left side of the infield but now that they are clinging for any hope they can find, suddenly Schneider is capable at third. This team.
  8. Yeah I’m not expecting the Jays to get in at this point, but I think their one potential saving grace is the Rangers tanking down the stretch. That four game series in Toronto in Sept will be huge. When they missed the playoffs in 2021 it was gut wrenching because you sensed that they had a legit chance to win it all. I honestly don’t know what to feel about the 2023 team if they get in.
  9. If Davis Schneider goes hitless today, he’s not playing again until next Saturday.
  10. Just rest a regular a few times a week so DS can get into the lineup. No reason why he can't play 4 times a week at a minimum. The fact that they started Espinal at 3B when Chapman was out rather than take the defensive hit by either playing DS there or someone else (Biggio, Merrifield, etc), so that DS can get into the lineup was ridiculous.
  11. Not watching the game but both the Davis Schneider highlights were with the stupid behind the batter camera angle. Thankfully the Jays are out of market for me so when I watch on MLBtv I use the opponent’s feed.
  12. He will be a 3+ WAR player in CF next season.
  13. Schneider going 3-3 with a HR, 2B, and BB, only to be benched tomorrow is going to be sad.
  14. It’s baffling. DS destroyed the minors and now in limited PA’s is destroying big league pitching, and he still can’t get playing time on a team that is desperate for offense. This FO isn’t bad, they do some things well, but having seen them in cases like this, Manoah, etc, they really seem to be behind many of the better run teams in the league.
  15. Schneider going to lead the team in home runs by the end of the season despite playing once a week.
  16. I'd want no part of Chapman on a big contract in his 30's. Let him leave as a FA. Ideally the Jays would use some of their AAA depth to fill 2024 holes, but a lot will depend on how they finish the season. If they make the playoffs, then job security is a bit more secure so they might be willing to take a risk on a younger talent, but if they miss the playoffs, then my guess is it will be vetrin central next season. The way they have used Davis Schneider so far doesn't give me much hope of them going the younger route next season so we should probably anticipate stopgaps regardless.
  17. He also hit RHP much better than LHP the last two seasons in the minors, so there’s absolutely no reason to strictly platoon him. This season has been really annoying overall.
  18. Guillermo/Hudgens would have him reduce his K rate but hit everything the other way (and on the ground) within a week. Gotta stick with the vetrins and sink/swim with them, that’s what the org wants.
  19. John Schneider's head exploding seeing a starter pitching into the 8th inning.
  20. Kyle Gibson probably salivates to face the Jays lineup.
  21. Tony Gwynn's final 252 PA at ages 40 and 41: 116 wRC+, 0.7 WAR Vlad's current 2023 season with 536 PA at age 24: 116 wRC+, 0.5 WAR No lies detected.
  22. Ohtani getting hurt while trying to carry the Angels was sadly predictable. Hopefully he still gets the money he was projected to get.
  23. I don't think you know what hyperbole means if you think anything I wrote there qualifies.
  24. Davis Schneider has a 222 wRC+ and 0.6 WAR in 36 plate appearances and John Schneider doesn't want to use him despite the offense being ass cheeks. I figured the Jays would use a couple of in house options to fill 2024 holes but I don't think it's a certainty. They are staring down the end of their Vlad/Bo window (or should I say "Bo window" instead?) and they haven't seemed eager to use more inexperienced options this season, so they might prefer the vetrin route. What Rogers does with payroll is another issue. I can't imagine a scenario where the Jays miss the playoffs in 2023 and still are a tax team in 2024, but who knows.
  25. A sweep would have been incredible, but win the series tomorrow. Then start taking advantage of the easier schedule.
