  1. Springer being upset that a pitch right down the middle was called a strike is peak 2023 Blue Jays.
  2. Yeah the Braves are so well put together. AA inherited a lot going there but man has he put them in a great spot for a long run.
  3. Agreed. They play a boring brand of baseball, which is fine when they win, but unwatchable when they are struggling. Improving the defense came at a massive price, both in offensive production and entertainment value.
  4. Espinal is the only one that can save us from DeJong until Bo gets back so keep hitting.
  5. Francis facing a lineup for the 2nd time must be making Schneider’s head explode.
  6. I hope Term isn’t watching this game.
  7. Schneider hitting the ball in the air and actually having some clear the fence likely rubbed the coaching staff the wrong way. The home run jacket was removed for a reason, dammit.
  8. Still can’t believe they brought him back up instead of giving someone like Francis a chance to start some games. Hopefully he’s done for the rest of the season. If they need a SP just bring up RT and have him pitch 3 innings after an opener or something if he can’t be stretched out too long.
  9. It’s easy for the Jays. I’m just taking a shot at them for getting shut down by a washed Thor.
  10. 40% of the Mariners remaining schedule is against the Royals, A's, White Sox, and Mets. The Jays have one "easy" stretch from the 25th to September 10th, and I put easy in quotes because they just split with the Guardians and got shut down by the corpse of Noah Syndergaard so I'm not sure what is easy anymore. After that, they end the season with 4 against the Rangers and 15 against the AL East (Red Sox, Yankees, Rays). The Yankees and Red Sox might be done by then, so maybe they'll be easier to play against. I don't know. Could go either way. The M's offense might be just as bad as the Jays, and they have a good rotation and pen. They are scary similar. Probably flip a coin on this one.
  11. The Mariners also own the tiebreaker due to divisional record, so the Jays have to finish ahead of them while the Mariners just to have tie. I don’t like the Jays chances here. The offense is ass cheeks. The Mariners don’t look that much better on paper so it could go either way but the schedule and the tie breaker is a killer.
  12. Clase against Varsho, Vlad, and DeJong. Holy s***. At least there’s no threat of leaving runners on base.
  13. This station to station offense that can’t hit with RISP is a combination of frustrating and incredibly boring. Like there isn’t even a threat of a HR when anyone on the team comes up. Maybe that’s why they got rid of the HR jacket. It would have collected dust in the dugout.
  14. Manoah stinks and it was obvious that putting him back in the rotation so soon was a bad idea (I don’t care if he Houdini’s his way to a decent line every now and then), but the offense is clearly the bigger issue on this team.
  15. DeJong has a -0.6 WAR in 8 games. As bad as Espinal is, I’d probably take him over DeJong at this point, though “neither” would be the best answer. Hurry back Bo.
  16. Schneider gets off on using as many relievers as possible so this is not surprising. At least it worked this time.
  17. DeJong had a -0.6 WAR as a Jay coming into the game tonight. Whoever that prospect was we sent to the Cardinals, I miss him. Whatever his name is.
  18. Yeah I think Horowitz’s long term playability depends on whether his recent power surge is a change he’s made or maybe figuring something out from a power standpoint. He has a great profile aside from that so if he develops even decent power then he should be a good 1B/DH option.
  19. Made no sense. Davis is having a historic start, why the hell would they bench him and Chapman at the same time when Bo and KK are already out? At least stagger the off days so that you're not losing too many bats at once. Unless there was an injury to DS, last night's lineup was ridiculous. Any time you look at the lineup card and all of DeJong, Espinal, and Biggio are in it, you might want to reevaluate. If Bo had to get hurt, then I wish it happened a couple of days later (after the deadline). Probably wouldn't have made a difference as the team would have probably just started Espinal at SS instead of Barger, Clement, or someone in the minors, but having DeJong and Espinal on the roster at once is an eye sore.
  20. Yeah calling up Schneider is easier since he can play multiple positions so there are realistic ways to get him into the lineup. With Horowitz he's kinda limited to 1B/DH, so there's not much flexibility. I definitely think he's starting at DH (against RHP) in 2024, though. Just find a decent platoon partner for him.
  21. Do the Jays use any pinch hitters in the 9th or is Schneider going to go down with the s***** lineup?
  22. The lineup tonight stinks so this is not that surprising but would suck to waste this start by Kikuchi.
  23. "2 outs and it's up to Varsho" are not words you want to hear on a Blue Jays broadcast in 2023.
  24. Yeah, Varsho and KK in the same OF doesn't make sense. They had no choice but to make it work this season since they acquired Varsho after already signing KK. I can't imagine they want to have that configuration beyond this season, at least I hope not. Move Varsho to CF, hope he has a wRC+ around 90-100 (which combined with his defense/base running would be a valuable player), and then get more offense from LF. Wouldn't shock me if they try to buy low on Tyler O'Neill, or something along those lines.
  25. I think of the 4 prospects in AAA that are near ready (or ready), the best shots at having roles on the big league club in the beginning of 2024 are probably Schneider and Horowitz. Barger has been great in July after missing time due to injury, so he might be a dark horse to win a spot for 2024, but I think both he and Orelvis start 2024 in AAA and serve as depth. We will probably see some typical Atkins trades to fill 3B and LF short term. With that said, if the Jays have a lineup in 2024 that includes Orelvis, Schneider, Horowitz, and Barger (and Tiedemann in the rotation, health permitting), and the team is still a strong playoff contender, then it would certainly be a good sign towards the "sustainable contention" model that the front office spoke about.
