    Yeah Bo on a long term deal is not going to end well for whoever signs him, IMO. His current performance, while excellent, is probably his ceiling, and he has a very risky offensive profile as he ages. I could see the logic in moving him whether he was difficult to sign or not, but once you factor in that he seems to want to test FA to maximize his earnings, it becomes a lot more justifiable to sell high. The issue for the Jays is they have a small window to contend right now so while moving him might make sense from a sustainability standpoint, it might hinder their ability to contend in 2024 depending on who they get back and/or who they get to replace him. Maybe you make a deal with the Cubs (Morel, etc) and then make a separate deal for someone like Willy Adames (who I'm assuming would be easier to extend but who knows), and the team wouldn't lose that much. I don't know, seems super unlikely that the Jays would do it, but who knows what's going on behind the scenes.

    Well if they want to move off the Vlad/Bo core then moving Bo makes more sense right now since the return would be remarkably better and he seems much more difficult to sign long term, but I can’t see a scenario where they trade him and the 2024 team is better because of it. There would have to be a lot more moving pieces involved. With that said, I highly doubt it happens this winter.

    With 4 years of control left and making the league minimum in 2024. At this rate ask for Jordan Walker in return and see what happens.

    Based on what the Cardinals have done so far, there’s no doubt that their interest in Manoah is genuine.

    Ohtani to the Dodgers is realistic/likely, but no way Moreno allows Trout to be traded to the Dodgers. I don't think Trout will be moved, but if he is, then it has Dave Dombrowski written all over it, and the location would make sense as well.

    Yeah this is not the market to go with multi year deals on non-Ohtani position player free agents, so if the Jays intend on making a "big splash", then Yamamoto (if Ohtani signs elsewhere) is the way to go. Then fill in the cracks with internal options or one year deals.

    Nola's deal at least makes sense. Dombrowski giving Taijuan Walker what he got last winter was a much more egregious decision.

    I don’t mind trading Manoah, depending on the return, but when Wes Parsons (who I have never heard of) is listed as SP depth, that’s not a good sign. They would definitely need to sign a SP to replace him if he’s moved. If the depth is Tiedemann, White, and Francis behind an established 5, then that’s a bit better.

    I don’t know about this anymore. A year ago I probably would have agreed with you, but Vlad other than 2021 has been completely replaceable as a talent and Bichette while very good has a very risky long term profile (low BBs, getting slower, etc). I think the Jays could adequately replace those two and still be a reasonably competitive team depending on what other moves they make and/or who pans out internally. Would be a different story if they were 5 WAR players like we expected/hoped. That’s not the case.

    In Passan’s new article he mentions that the Jays want to do “something big”. It was in reference to Ohtani and his potential market in free agency. Ohtani seems like a pipe dream, and doing something big in free agency in this year’s market is probably better on the pitching side. Unless that something big is Bellinger, which I wouldn’t be thrilled with but does seem far more likely than Ohtani.

    Teams that are shedding payroll due the RSN issues might open up the trade market a bit (MIN, MIL, etc) but yeah the Jays really can't afford to trade top prospects unless they don't care about 2026-beyond and just go all in for the next two seasons, which doesn't jive with what Shapiro would typically do. I think there will be at least one trade since the free agent pool is so bad that they can't possibly get all their needs met through there (ex. left field, third base), but otherwise it will probably be more of the same as last winter where they went for the 1 year deals for players coming off down years (KK, Belt).

    DeMarlo Hale is back with the Jays as a bench coach. No word on if he was at the dinner with Ohtani and Kikuchi in Toronto.

    I want no part of Chapman on a long term deal. If he accepts the QO (he won’t) then that’s fine but anything beyond that and I’m ok with moving on. I do agree it will be hard to find a 3-4 WAR replacement in this market, though. Might have to take a hit at 3B and compensate elsewhere.

    Yeah something better than O'Neill would be great but hard to see what Kikuchi's value would look like to other teams. He's coming off a good year and only makes $10m in 2024 so he's good value, but track record isn't there and he's already in his 30's. I mentioned O'Neill because the Cardinals are apparently looking to trade him and he comes with the same control as Kooch. It's a deal that fills holes for both teams, and O'Neill is good enough defensively to not compromise the run prevention component that Atkins was adamant about last winter. Gorman would be an interesting target. LHB with control and lots of red on the statcast page. Would be a fit, at least offensively.

    I had a similar thought, but more like Kikuchi for O'Neill and then signing a FA SP. I don't mind trading Manoah, but not for Carlson. Maybe it's Varsho PTSD but when the statcast page is excessively blue in the important offensive categories, I'm not trading any real assets for it unless it's an important position. Since Carlson wouldn't be playing CF here, I don't see the point in a trade like that, especially when the Jays would be selling low on Manoah in that scenario.

    If the Jays can get Suarez for a reasonable price, then that wouldn't be a bad scenario. Has 1+1 left on his deal, so it's either going to be 1/13 or 2/26, and both are reasonable for the type of player he is. Much better than overpaying for Chapman or Candy on long term deals.

    A 40 year old DH coming off two below average offensive seasons in a row (including a 75 wRC+ after the ASB in 2023) is not someone I'd be terribly excited about as a DH option. As strictly a bench piece that they can wrap the Canadian flag around for marketing purposes is more acceptable, but not in Belt's role from last season. Could he have a decent season in 2024? Maybe, but I wouldn't want to count on that, and the Jays kinda need offense they can count on after how 2023 turned out.

    Yeah, last season the Jays had Varsho and KK in the OF, so they essentially had their backup CF starting in LF. Without KK, and presumably with a better offensive player coming in to play LF full time in 2024, they will need a backup CF. Taylor as a 4th OF and platoon partner with Varsho would be a solid fit. With that said, it's Morosi, so be prepared for "Blue Jays showing interest in..." tweets all winter.
