  1. I wonder how the dude from Shark Tank felt when he got off the plane.
  2. The sad thing is, I actually think Morosi’s source might have been the Reddit thread.
  3. Now we know how the Giants fans felt last year after being Arson Judge’d. Whatever optimism I had for Ohtani signing here has gone, and I blame myself because against my better judgment I got excited based off a Morosi tweet, and I should have known better.
  4. Morosi's downfall would make up, slightly, for Ohtani choosing the Dodgers over the Jays. But man this better not end up being a giant kick to the balls.
  5. If Nightengale is right, then Morosi better be cancelled. He should have been cancelled a long time ago, but this should be credibility destroying if true.
  6. Ohtani playing in LA where no one in the East coast wants to stay up and watch the games wouldn't be good for baseball either. The best thing for baseball would have been Ohtani going to the Yankees. With that not in play, I don't think it matters ultimately. If anything, Ohtani in the East coast playing the Yankees, Red Sox, etc, a lot more is going to get more eye balls on him. It's up to Fox, ESPN, TBS, etc, to determine whether they want to air those games nationally.
  7. Man, if this ends up being true, holy s***. Even in my wildest dreams I would not have predicted the Jays even being a finalist for Ohtani, much less potentially signing him. Although, it's Morosi, so I'll hold off getting too excited. The Passan bomb, if it happens, will hit like crack.
  8. Toronto is a relative small pond (in the major sports landscape) and he’s a gigantic fish. He will have less privacy in Toronto/Canada, if anything.
  9. Morosi being wrong but getting the clicks and engagement he seeks? Shocking. How this guy is still credited as a source for anything is amazing. Credit to him, I guess.
  10. Morosi is only a small step up in credibility over the Twitter users with 6 followers who claim to have sources, so I wouldn't take anything he says seriously. I didn't think it would happen, but I've reached a point where I'd be pretty bummed out if Ohtani chooses another team. I always felt him choosing the Jays was a long shot so I tried not to get too suckered in, but damn, I'm all in now. I'm ready to be extremely happy or extremely miserable whenever he makes up his mind.
  11. Yamamoto looks like he is going to be a $300m investment (at least) and Ohtani anywhere between $550-650m, so that’s not an exaggeration. If Rogers approves that and the two players decide to come to Toronto, then find a way to make it work.
  12. Pivoting to Yamamoto after losing out on Ohtani would make sense but both would be insane, and very unlikely. But if the Jays can make it happen, then go for it. There are ways to shed salary elsewhere if that dream is even remotely possible.
  13. Reds probably going to trade for a SP (Glasnow, Bieber, whoever). The glut of infielders should help them get a decent SP one would think. Still doesn't make sense to sign Candy if their intention is to keep Elly, McLain, and Marte, though. Seems like a waste of resources.
  14. Not a single MLB reporter knows anything about Ohtani or what he wants/likes. It's all guessing for engagement, follows, and likes. It's best to just wait for Jeff Passan's "BREAKING" post and ignore all the other stuff.
  15. Yeah an OF of Soto-Judge-Verdugo from left to right is a bad setup. They would be better off doing what was mentioned above, which is flipping Verdugo to the Padres and getting Grisham back, which would be an offensive downgrade, but much better defensive alignment.
  16. US media dunking all over Ohtani for the way he's handled free agency. Chris Russo and Stephen A on First Take went in on him for it. The Canadian media hasn't done anything except post praying emojis that he signs with the Jays. Your choice, Shohei.
  17. That’s fair. It would be disappointing while also could be a better long term scenario. With Ohtani I don’t care about the long term risk, it would just be awesome to see him as a Jay. Soto would cost assets and might be a one year rental so that comes with more long term risk/harm.
  18. If King is as good as he showed in the final 1-2 months of 2023, then that’s probably the best deal the Padres could get in terms of their goals (winning right away). Manoah is too risky, Tiedemann has thrown like 100 innings in 2 years in the minors, and Schmidt looks like lower end SP. I could see the Padres pulling the trigger if King is involved, though he comes with his own set of risk (injury risk, lack of IP, etc). Preller would be smart to wait for Ohtani to sign first, though. Could open up the Soto market and maybe get them a deal they like better.
  19. Unfortunately probably bringing Chapman back. I can’t think of any other impact FA or trade that is realistic unless they can get Robert, and Bellinger would be a bad idea. If Ohtani signs elsewhere and Soto goes to the Yankees, then the Jays should probably just do what they did last season. One year vetrins. Except this time hope that Vlad, Kirk, Springer, and Varsho actually perform well. This is not the FA market to be overpaying for someone unless it’s on the top end of the market.
  20. I still think he ends up with the Dodgers, but we shouldn't be disappointed if that ends up happening. The Jays getting this far in the process is pretty damn impressive.
  21. Roberts either knows the Dodgers are getting him or knows they are not. Or neither. Dammit Shohei just make your damn choice so we can all move on.
