  1. They picked Stroman where they did because they needed a safe sign in that spot since it wasn't a guaranteed pick. Stroman was essentially a signability pick though, as it turns out, a rather good one. They just should have picked someone other than Davis with the first pick. You can draft a guy with wheels as a project later in the draft, they should have picked someone with a hit tool.
  2. Better player my ass. Pompey has a better floor than either of the pitchers. They may have higher ceilings but they are more than likely both busts. I really wouldn't feel bad about moving them both for a year and a half of Shark.
  3. Even they have to realize that trading two rotations pieces for one makes zero sense from a Jays perspective.
  4. I'd rather trade both Sanchez and Norris than move Pompey. The OF situation going forward is pretty bleak.
  5. The comparison when drafted would be similar to the comparison now really. I mean obviously Stroman is more established now but the comparison still amounts to safer floor versus higher ceiling.
  6. Good first post. As long as you'rr clear on the source of your information, no one should have an issue with a post like this. I guess you could have posted it in an existing thread about Samaridzija but the thread that gets bumped periodically is really old and no one could blame you for not finding it. If anyone thinks it's a big deal the threads can always be merge but I don't know why a new poster would want to read through pages of pages of speculation that go back to the off-season. I prefer this fresh start actually.
  7. I don't love Profar or Myers personally but on paper it's a good trade for Gibbers and we've seen him move assetts at just the right time before. Given where he is in the standings, it only makes sense to cash in Posey and it's always better to cash in a little early than late (something Gibbers both preaches and practices regularly). Though I don't like Profar or Myers to live up to their prospect hype, I still like them to provide solid value while Posey's production inevitably declines. One thing that bugs me about his side hwoever is the Hutch part. Maybe this is a sell high window for him but I'm not so sure we've seen the best from Hutch. He was really great in the minors and somewhat paradoxically his early callup probably kept him from generating the kind of prospect hype he deserved and was probably on the cusp of receiving. I thought drafting him was one of Gibber's shrewdest moves and I don't love the idea of moving an under-rated asset like him for likely over-rated assetts like Profar and Myers. That part doesn't really seem to fit with Gibber's m.o. I have to assume he got haggled into it and if so good on Sylvio for giving himself an out should Posey hit the wall.
  8. Anyone who doesn't condiser Morrow an upgrade over Happ should be banned.
  9. Oh he most certainly could but I agree with the sentiment. A healthy Nolin would be 100x more interesting than Drabek but desperate times...
  10. There's no upside to exposing Sanchez at the MLB level. He should have been traded after his strong AFL season. He was hyped up good at that point.
  11. If Lind and/or Lawrie are healthy, it will be Kawasaki or one of the catchers. It's too bad because Delabar really has no business with the big club.
  12. That sounds like grounds for an outright release.
  13. One of Gose, Pillar or Mastroianni should have been called up to act as a 4th OF.
  14. If the team told him that he was going down just because he had options than the team f***ed up. The team should have sent him in the minors specifically to get his s*** together and he should have been told as much.
  15. I'm pretty sure Delabar does have options but I never know where to check if a player does or doesn't. Wouldn't it be great if they just put an O or an X next to the player's name on roster listings? It's something that plays a huge role in roster management so you would think the information would be made more freely available to fans but instead it has be a constant source of specualtion.
  16. I thought it was odd that the Mets extended Wright in the same off-season were they traded their #1 pitcher (Dickey) and started their rebuild. That being said if Wright wanted to win so badly, he could have hit free agency and signed with a contender. At worst, he might have left some money on the table doing that but it's not like he would have had to play for free either. Contenders, TB excepted, usually aren't broke. It was more important for him to stay with one team and I respect that but I'm not going to feel bad for something that was entirely his own decision. And I absolutely agree that Thole and Reyes should maybe win something before they feel bad for anybody.
  17. I think what he's saying is that he won't necessarily return to 3B when this is over. Lawrie moved to 2B reluctanctly to help the team. That only works as long as Francisco stays hot.
  18. I don't see why this is a surprise. This seemed the obvious move as soon as Lind was injured. With Francisco back to DH, Lawrie can move back to 3rd full time and Kawa can platoon with Tolleson. With Getz retired, the only other option was Goins. You don't keep splitting Lawrie between two positions if a spot opens up for Francisco. The only question now is whether Lind is merely day to day of flat out on the DL. If it's Cecil on the DL and not Lind, expect Kawa to be swapped out for a pitcher once Lind is healthy.
  19. I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere but it's a good read regardless. Grantland piece on Rangers prospect Joey Gallo and how unique he is. http://grantland.com/features/joey-gallo-texas-rangers-fascinating-prospect/
  20. I have a tentative agreement with NJH. He can have my last pick if he wants for Manuel Margot. It all hinges on whether the guy he wants to draft is still available. I'm posting about it because I'm going to be on the road all day. This gives NJH the option of confirming the trade and picking right away when my turn comes up without any further intervention from me.
  21. Gotcha. For a second there I thought we were enacting the "don't treat Hurl like typical riff-raff" clause.
  22. Pretty sure we didn't give people new clocks when this happened in the past unless the next person picking decided to wait until the last minute as a curtesy. Pretty sure we just go on picking as quickly as we want and Hurl jumps in whenever he's available. This happened to Spanky in the very first draft.
