  1. I guess it really doesn't matter because that 155/322/268 slash line in AAA screams sub-replacement level. He may be right-handed but he ain't no bat.
  2. Even atrocious Yunel probably provides better value for the cost.
  3. I think that's exactly what happened and I think it was pretty dumb. They should have just played the percentages. Too much ego went into the decision. Happ has been exactly what he was expected to be when they traded for him. No more, no less. Just because he lowered the bar for himself to an impossible degree with the dreadful spring training he had, doesn't mean we should be doing cartwheels over this 5th starter performance. He's useful but pretty mediocre and highly replaceable. That's what he was when the Jays acquired him and that's what he is now. It just so happens that for a while in the middle, he looked like even less than that. Trading for him was pretty pointless because he's just not the kind of assett that's worth trading for. I don't understand the urge to re-evaluate this trade and turn it into a positive every time he has a not garbage start.
  4. Right-handed middle infield options are non-existent. The only other one was Diaz and he's out the org I think. Mune, Goins, Schimpf, all left-handers.
  5. His catching is too good to call him a bust even if he hits .200. Mets should just let him play through his offensive struggles. He provides enough value the other way and it's what's good for the future of the team. He could follow a similar path to Mesoraco or Molina, catchers who took awhile to become two way contributors but were good catchers nonetheless.
  6. I'm quite fine with Melky not making the game.
  7. Just sent in all my ballots with EE on every one. Now I can get back to ignoring the All Star game.
  8. Since the Jays took on Happ's contract and Lyon's contract, it wasn't exactly a straight salary dump. The salaries were actually pretty close to being a wash. The Astros got marginal prospects but they basically got them for nothing If Happ had not been arbitration eligible, it might have been a good trade but the Jays could have easily signed a pitcher similar to Happ for the same money they gave him in arb. It was a value negligable acquisition for the Jays. I mean Redmond could just as easily be the 5th starter and the Jays would have had Happ's salary to make other acquisition so you can even argue Happ is a negative assett. Best case scenario for the Jays is that they gave up nothing for nothing. If any of the prospects do anything in the majors, Astros win the trade. Happ is a serviceable 5th starter but it was a still a pretty pointless trade with no upside whatsoever for the Jays and at least some upside for Houston.
  9. The difference between AA and AAA isn't great enough to qualify as a Hail Mary. He's been around long enough to be in AAA anyways. You'd just wish he had earned the promotion due to performance rather than a change of scenery thing. His AAA numbers so far are pretty mediocre. If they call him based on a couple of good starts, that will definitely be a Hail Mary but I think they're just bluffing. It looks like they are just trying to spin some positives about him. He's young enough to still be in College and he's in AAA so I guess that's something. You have to look a him and ask "if this guy were in college, how confident would I be that I can draft him and develop him into a top line starter?". He would definitely be considered pretty raw for a college arm. You'd be drafting on stuff not polish and if you're going to do that, you'd probably prefer to do it with a HS arm that you have more time to develop.
  10. I'm pretty sure AA said no roster moves until Friday and then probably a Cecil activation.
  11. It will look pretty bad if Farrell doesn't include Encarnacion when it's pretty clear that he deserves it more than his own player (Ortiz). I doubt Farrell wants to create any more bad blood between him and the Jays not to mention that he probably has a lot of appreciation for Encarnacion having coached him.
  12. Three million dollar option with a one million buyout. They could probably buy him out and re-sign him (ideally to a minor league deal) and still come under the 3 million.
  13. Izturis is nothing special but the annoying thing about losing him is that the Jays have had to use two guys at the 2B position instead of one. At least Izturis has switch hitting going for him. Having one less platoon to run, would have made it easier to keep Kratz around and run a more effective DH platoon.

    Man City?
  15. Makes sense. No need to keep Lind in the lineup against LHP. I'd probably go Masto in RF though which allows you to use Tolleson at 2B or 3B.
  16. Imagine the career he could have had if he had been moved to 1B from the onset? Trying to become a decent 3B clearly ate up too much of his time, attention and mental energy.
  17. So how does this work anyway? Do they take games that are currently scheduled for the afternoon and turn them into night games at ESPN's request?
  18. If he were a bust, he wouldn't have trade value at all. If you trade him, you risk losing out on a pitcher who fullfils his potential. If you keep him, you risk losing out on your trade window if he does bust. There's risk either way. Otherwise, there wouldn't even be a debate.
  19. That's odd. I've never known Buck and Tabby to run a talking point to the ground.
  20. "no I don't want dances but come back to my hotel room" douche-tastic
  21. Shhh!.... Don't spoil his fun. Don't tell him that obviously this p.r. thing was planned weeks if not months age. He WANTS to be upset at Bautista.
  22. He isn't though. Buehrle is about as effective late in the game as he is early in the game. He's a true inning eater. Dickey is not.
