  1. Keys hitting left-handed and being able to play 3B gives him a great floor to work with. If he can hit at all he's at least a viable bench piece for a contender.
  2. Yeah it was one of those games where you get caught with your #5 on the hill and a taxed bullpen (bc we used our good relievers to win the previous 3) vs. their ace. You gotta rely on your B-team relievers or bank on your offense putting up some runs but either way it's an uphill battle of a game so I'm not that bothered by it. The Angels got 3 runs off a ball with an xBA of .060 that was perfectly placed down the line. I'm choosing to focus on the 3 game winning streak prior to last night's game which was a step in the right direction. Also, Barger, Springer, Yesavage and Berrios should all be back within a week or so. We are on to Cleveland.
  3. There's a good article on the front page regarding Yariel. He's changed his pitch mix to rely more on his splitter and less on his fastball. He's got 19 Ks in just 9.1 IP and has a 1.91 FIP. Usually just throws one inning a time though. Seems like he's strictly a reliever moving forward. The one time he did start he struck out 6 in 2.1 IP.
  4. "Stuff was pretty light today" Lmao Schneider absolutely HATES him Just trade him for whatever salary relief you can get
  5. I've been higher on him more than most during his Jays tenure. Something clearly going on with him. They said it was the flu and maybe he's just not finding his mechanics since then. But 88 mph is going to get crushed over the course of the season. Needs to get back up to 91.
  6. He looks horrible. His back is all taped up for some reason and he's sitting 88. His fastball is so crap that Statcast thinks it's a changeup. He's got 2 swings and misses the entire day. Thankfully he's getting by because it's the Angels but the dam might break at any moment.
  7. If Lauer doesn't pitch well from here on out, what other choice will we have but to DFA him? The guy is a year removed from having to flee to Asia to continue his career and if everyone his healthy he's our #8-10th best SP. But I expect he'll be better, the projections say as much. And I think we can trade him. But it won't be for much. Jays fans need to get used to losing decent players for little to nothing. That's what happens when you have a good team and a 300+ million dollar payroll to plug any perceived holes each offseason. Decent players will get squeezed off the roster.
  8. If it comes down to Miles or Lauer for the long man role it would be General Manager malpractice to dump Miles and keep Lauer. If we can hang on to Miles for the year we'll have him under team control for a long time, and that will come with 2 option years. He'd be a good guy to stretch out in Buffalo and have as a depth starter moving forward. Lauer on the other hand will be a FA and won't be back.
  9. I wonder if Lauer could end up being traded with Yesavage and Berrios close to returning. If Gaus, Cease and Yesavage are locks, that leaves Berrios, Lauer, Corbin, and Scherzer for 2 spots. And we also have Bieber waiting in the wings. Maybe the Padres would be a good fit?
  10. It's downright remarkable. Worst combination of speed and decision making I've ever seen until he's on 2B and there's a single. Then he somehow turns into Rickey Henderson out there. Stop signs be damned, he's going for it and it works out almost every single time. That slide last night was a beauty. Barely slowed down at all while making it almost impossible to get a good tag on him.
  11. I've been trying to figure out this Sosa acquisition ever since we got him and I think I might have found something. He's played in 6 games as a Blue Jays so far and 2 of them featured him as a pinch hitter. He's 2-2 pinch hitting as a Jay and both hits were huge in securing us the win. I think they like him, especially as a pinch hitter, because he can hit high velo. Here's his career xBA depending on the pitch velo. 96 mph and below = .264 xBA 97 and above = .281 xBA 98 and above = .321 xBA 99 and above = .366 xBA 100 and above = .271 xBA 101 and above = .333 xBA The league average xBA on pitches thrown 99 mph or greater is .185. For pitches thrown 101 mph it's .104. This man is a psychopath. He has no business hitting high velo this well. Is Ross cooking here?
  12. That's two good starts in a row for Corbin and I think we can excuse his first one since his only warm up was one start in Dunedin. Yesavage and Berrios are both close to returning and if everyone is healthy it will be interesting to see what they do. I'm not sure that Berrios, Scherzer, or Lauer are better than Corbin right now.
  13. I like the Murray comp. And like Murray, Vlad has a shot at 500 homers and 300 hits. Needs to average about 24 homers and 136 hits a year over the course of his contract in order to get there.
  14. Agreed, although they are both getting BABIP'd a little bit. Especially Schreck.
  15. Both are now running so hopefully they are back in the next week or two? Good point on Sosa. The PTBNL/cash considerations part of that trade may factor in his performance and how long he's on the team anyway. Dump him and we are out a 13th rounder that hasn't even debuted yet. So it's probably Sosa and Eloy if no one else gets hurt. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some phantom injuries too, aka the Dodgers special.
  16. Springer and Barger are getting close to returning. Will be interesting to see what they do with the roster when they are back. Sosa is out of options Straw is out of options Eloy is out of options Lukes has an option Schneider has an option Seems like Eloy is an easy choice unless he starts hitting for power ASAP. The second move is pretty tough though.
  17. I was looking into McAdoo today as well and I don't know what to make of him. His average exit velo is really bad: https://prospectsavant.com/player/807727
  18. In addition his LOB% is 58%, adding to his s*** luck. But his peripherals are insane. To the eye it seems like he'll hang a pitch over the plate far too often. But even so, you would expect him to get away with that far more often than he has been. I'm hopeful he will right the ship.
  19. At least Vlad is walking a lot so hopefully he keeps that up. Steamer is starting to buy into this 12.5% walk rate. If he does that while hitting .300 he's still going to be a damn good player even if he's only hitting 25 homers. But if the power isn't going to remain consistent throughout the year, maybe he can at least have one ridiculously hot month where he hits 10 bombs or something to get him into the 30+ range.
  20. Hoffman threw his hardest pitching of the season last night to end the game. 97.9 mph fastball to strike out Adam Frazier. Hopefully he can keep it up.
  21. There's a lot of good stuff in this post but you might be jumping to conclusions. If he had good stuff in his first 4 appearances and bad stuff in his last 6, there could be any number of explanations for that. He could be sick, his mechanics could be slightly off, he has a minor injury, his confidence is down so he's aiming the ball, etc. All of that could be corrected and the stuff returns. Or he could be permanently broken, as you said. He is getting up there a bit in age, after all. But there's no way to know that based off 6 appearances.
