    Yeah Jansen hasn't had a caught stealing in literally years. Holding runners just isn't a part of his game. After the second disengagement, 0-1 count, and the pitch clock was winding down...Mac should have gone.

    Yeah, I don't know what else you could expect. A handful of mediocre teams are having a mid-off right now to see who can back into the playoffs. No serious projection system should be predicting anything other than a mediocre finish for any of them. Pretty simple, really.

    Getting Trey back would be huge. Even if he's only a 3-4 inning bulk pitcher.

    Yeah Loperfido sucks too and Sanchez being ass doesn't change that. We won't miss either one of them.

    It kind of did happen overnight. He was an okay fielder and above average baserunner up until this year. But his athleticism quickly fell off a cliff and he no longer has a well rounded set of tools. His sprint speed is down, his arm strength is down, his bat speed is down, etc. He's still only 28 but he's huge for a baseball player and he somehow hit a wall in his late 20s which can happen. It's frustrating because the hardest thing to do in sports is hit a baseball and Sanchez is pretty good at that. He's just so inexplicably terrible at everything else. My guess is he signs with a mid team for about 6 mil this offseason and has a "bounceback" year.

    Anthony Mackie can star as Rudy Martin Jr. in Rudy 2: The Baseball Version after Martin steals some bases for us in the World Series EDIT: Kenan Thompson can star as Vlad Jr.

    Vlad will bounce back but we'll see how much. A season like this lowers his ceiling and floor, and it's fairly dramatic. Steamer Projections: Preseason: 152 wRC+ Updated: 137 wRC+ So even with a bounce back, that's a pretty devastating drop off if you compound those projections over the life of his 14 year extension.

    I guess the other option is that they could be sick of Sanchez's crap and instead of a Springer IL stint they DFA Sanchez instead. There's no reason for him to be getting any playing time right now. Can't field and he's been struggling with the bat for a while now. He's also goofy. Straw, Keys, Smith, etc. all deserve PT over him. Martin can play the field and can run the bases so he may be better suited to be the 26th man over Sanchez. Still think it's a Springer IL stint though.

My guess is Springer to the IL to clear a 26-man spot for Martin Taillon to the 60-day IL to clear a 40-man spot for Martin Martin becomes a sparingly used 26th man, is optioned or even DFA'd when Springer or Taters are back Keys is the primary DH Smith is your new LF against righties Sanchez hits the bench

    Hmm does this mean Springer is going to the IL? Rudy is another lefty outfielder, I assume he'll just be a warm body for the bench until Taters is ready or until Springer returns? Can pinch run or be a defensive replacement. He's not on the 40-man though so we'll need to make a move. Maybe Taillon to the 60-day IL?

    When Taters comes back (and depending on how good he looks), Ernie might find himself in a short side platoon. In the meantime, there should be plenty of ABs for both Ernie and Smith with LF being the gaping hole that it is.

    One underrated aspect of Soriano is that he can hold runners and field his position well. The A's had 5 steals on Monday and 0 yesterday. In addition, he locates well (despite his BB/9) and induces a ton of groundballs. Add in his ability to hold runners and field well and everything plays up. I think with a good offseason he could get his Stuff+ numbers to return and he'll take a nice step forward next year.

    Yeah the lineup and the rotation is just downright BAD. We have zero business being in the playoff chase. But we've got two good starting pitchers, an elite bullpen and good defense which is apparently enough to contend for the AL Pennant this year.

    Not sure exactly but he was shaking out his hand or wrist after a swing yesterday. He appears to be the hitting version of Max Scherzer now. Still effective when healthy, but almost never healthy because he is old and is constantly managing a half dozen injuries during the course of the season. EDIT: Just got an alert that it is his shoulder as well as a few other "bumps and bruises"

    Yeah he's shown pretty good stuff with the Jays. 104 Stuff+ will play. But his Location+ has been brutal (88). The Jays need to get him in the lab this offseason (aka Pete Walker's garage/beer fridge) where he can snap off 100 breaking balls in a row into the wee hours of the morning. Until that happens I don't have very high expectations for him.

    As for the WC, it's essentially a 3-team race. The Orioles (pour one out for all the Orioles and Luis Robert fanboys), Mariners, and Twins have dropped below 3% odds. That leaves the Jays, Guardians and Rangers. And the Jays are only 3 back of the ChiSox and 1.5 back of the Astros so there are other paths to the WC for the Jays if the Guardians or Rangers get hot and win the division. I still maintain the position that the playoffs will be easy to make.
