  1. Yeah and the World Cup games being midday really screwed us sports fans at night. Zero games on last night.
  2. I guess one thing I could be missing with Clase is that he missed about a month this year with an injury. So perhaps putting stock in his AAA numbers this year isn't fair. March/April: Slow start the first two weeks in frigid Buffalo and then gets hurt. May: Comes back after 4 weeks but struggles as he shakes the rust off. June: Actually hit pretty well. July: Hitting well in the majors. He also seems to have been having some bad luck in AAA. His prospect savant page paints a much better picture: https://prospectsavant.com/player/682729 Olerud might be right again but I still don't love him now that he's out of options. If he could play an average CF I'd buy in a lot more.
  3. You are winning the BA in the minors argument sir, don't go soft on us now.
  4. Cool as a cucumber tomato.
  5. Jake Bennett's agent sucks. He should fire him and hire Gable Mitchell's.
  6. As for Clase I don't even think I'd tender him a contract. He's out of options and he's had a terrible season, 1 week of lucky MLB ABs notwithstanding.
  7. They do like Straw and he certainly profiles better as a short side platoon in CF than he does in a corner. They could decline his option and get him back for 3 or 4 mil. I suppose they could bring in Mullins or something and platoon him with Straw and then take the Varsho money and spend it on a more permanent solution to fix a corner OF spot? 2 or 3 year deal for Ward or Happ or something? But I don't think a 1 year QO for Varsho would necessarily preclude them from signing a corner OF anyway. We've got plenty of money coming off the books.
  8. Yeah there aren't great comps for Varsho. Defense was elite, but is probably now merely above average. But it is a premium position and the bat is about league average. Jaysblue is right that the 4 or 5 year deal is gone unless he goes nuts the 2nd half. These guys had worse track records but were coming off of a better year: Harrison Bader got 2 years, 20.5 mil Grisham accepted the QO Also, not many CF options in FA (or in MLB altogether really) which could help him. Grisham is probably the only other guy you would consider a starter. QO seems like it could be the right fit for him tbh.
  9. I don't think he's going to sign a 1 year deal for 15 million. He might not even agree to the QO as Boras usually prefers to roll the dice. And I'm not sure the team cares that much about 7 million bucks anyway. So I get your reasoning but disagree on the conclusion as if you're willing to go to 15 mil, the extra 7 mil is probably worth it to either lock in a starting caliber CF for another year or gain a draft pick.
  10. I will say that I loved how Schneider went about naming his starter. Cam Shitler thought he could bow out and become the pseudo-starter but Schneids wasn't going to let him get away with that.
  11. It's his dream format as overmanaging becomes the norm.
  12. Who would do such a thing?? Don't they have anything better to do than wage an online crusade over which catcher is better?
  13. Here's a question to ponder during the ASB. Would you guys extend a QO to Varsho this offseason?
  14. Ben Shulman has grown on me. I listen to a lot of the radio broadcasts, and whoever fills in for him made me realize Ben is a lot better than I originally gave him credit for. That other guy is not great.
  15. Jonatan Clase has a .250 xwOBA lol
  16. Yeah this team is ass but we are only 2.5 games back and we don't have s*** to trade anyway. I'd be a modest buyer and target things that traditionally don't cost a lot. #4 or 5 SP Crafty RP (not a flamethrower they cost too much) Right handed hitting corner OF
  17. Shipman isn't bad in the booth. But while we are on the topic of women in baseball, Jen Pawol might be the worst MLB umpire I've ever seen. As for your favorite Pride Parades being subjected to derogatory comments, I have no idea what that has to do with anything Jays or baseball related so I've unfortunately had to report you for politics.
  18. Hmm I kind of like the trade for both teams. Twins need the bullpen help and he goes from a low leverage guy for us to a middle innings guy for the Twins. He's probably one of their Top 4 or 5 relievers. It is interesting for the Jays as we are still trying to contend and he's better than Dallas and Corbin. But I guess the FO probably just wants our back of the bullpen types to be able to throw more than one inning and Nance is pretty much a one inning guy. And without options he becomes less valuable when we get to the trade deadline and try to add arms anyway? So just move him now for a 40 FV and we don't lose much, while also freeing up a roster spot for the trade deadline in 3 weeks.
  19. Bieber, Vlad, Springer and Kirk. Those 4 pull their heads out and the playoffs will be easy to make. Springer had a decent June and has looked good in limited action in July so his head may have actually breached his rectum already. Kirk and Bieber are coming off injury so it's a little more understandable when it comes to their struggles but it's time to start performing. Enough has been said about Vlad.
  20. Look at that bullpen chart. Must feel like an entire offseason's worth of rest for those guys after the hell they've been through this first half.
  21. And yes all it takes is two games against the lowly Giants for me to get back on the wagon THE PLAYOFFS WILL BE EASY TO MAKE
  22. The Padres kind of suck. They are .500 and have won 3 out of their last 4 but they lost 8 games in a row right before that. I like the pitching matchups for us so long as Bieber can pull his head out. Bieber vs. Sears Yesavage vs. Buehler Gausman vs. Marquez A series win and things look okay heading into the ASB. A sweep and we are right back in WC contention.
  23. If we get in could we make noise? You betcha. The D-Bags (Where are their fanboys btw? You guys swore they were a good team but they haven't done anything since) had a negative run differential and swept the Dodgers on their way to the World Series just two years ago and even the best AL teams aren't that scary. Cease-Gausman-Yesavage is a good playoff trio and Varland, Rogers, Hoff is a good backend bullpen. As of now I say go for it but it could go either way. Here's what the schedule looks like: @ Padres All-Star Break White Sox Rays @ Red Sox @ Nats Cardinals Trade Deadline
  24. Yeah I know a lot of posters here like to jerk off to prospect porn but I'd rather make a run at a Wild Card. It's not like our trade chips will fetch us much anyway. And if we buy, I think we can target the things that don't typically cost that much at the deadline. A backend SP, a right handed hitting corner outfielder, a bench bat, etc. Making the playoffs will really come down to Vlad, Springer, Kirk and Bieber pulling their heads out of their asses anyway.
