    Bieber is shut down from throwing for two weeks. By the time that happens, there's only 3 weeks left in the season for him to build back up. I suppose he could return for the final week or something but he's basically done for the regular season. Cue the Aaron Rodgers in a Jets uniform meme for Bieber's tenure with the Jays.

    Yeah it's a damn mess now. Scherzer SWR? Spaghetti That's either 3 bullpen days, or 3 s***** starters throwing, depending on how you look at it.

    Good grief. Bieber is made of glass. Even when you think he's healthy he's not. Finished the season fine last year - nope jk he's out half the year with an injury. Threw 7 strong his last turn through the rotation - actually no he's going to the IL the day before his next start.

    I haven't really been scoreboard watching the White Sox much like I have the rest of the AL scrum but I think it's probably time to start. They are only 4.5 games up on the Jays, don't project that well, and haven't had a very good August. The AL Central is turning into the AL West where 3 teams are vying for either the division or WC3. Them faltering could open up another path for the Jays if Cleveland or Minny gets hot.

    Scherzer vs. Lugo Bieber vs. Dobnak Spaghetti vs. Cameron Don't love these pitching matchups but the Royals have both the worst road record and bullpen in baseball.

    Off days are flat out terrible for board morale. Nothing sends this board into a darker place quite like losing half a game in the standings while not actually playing.

    These Scherzer starts are the dangerous ones. Need him to show a pulse moving forward. Looked like he might have been until the last game when Jesus Sanchez had other plans.

    What does this mean? We were 5 games back and needed to jump 6 teams. Now we are 2 games back and need to jump 3 teams.

    Varsho's agent has to be s***ing bricks right now. Acquire him at your own risk, MLB GMs! You might get fired!

    I'm hopeful that this dogshit offense will get it going. The lineup has been a little better recently and that's while we've faced some teams with some damn good pitching (PHI, BOS, NYY x2, TBR). With the "easier" schedule, that will generally mean easier pitching matchups. The Royals have some okay starting pitching but their bullpen is by far the worst in baseball. They don't have one good reliever right now. Most are replacement level or worse.

    Olerud was the man. They should have let him pitch as well. But I agree, lock that guy up long term and he becomes a Hall of Famer.

    We've got them right where we want them. Gained a ton of ground during a really tough part of the schedule. Now we've got an off day followed by a very manageable schedule. The playoffs will be easy to make.

    Yeah that makes sense to me. The bats are obviously a mess and we need to make some changes there but it's hard to pinpoint where. OF and DH seem to be the biggest holes as of now, but even then we have a ton of internal options. Young guys (McAdoo, Keys, Bateman, etc.) and players returning from injury (Barger, Taters) could conceivably cover those spots. There's always Lukes too. But we need some outside help and if we acquire some new players we will have to ship some of the other guys out via trade.

    The only time the Jays aren't opening their wallet is when the Dodgers or Mets open their even bigger wallet. So I can't say Skubal is realistic but pretty much everyone else on this list is a realistic target.

    These are fair points. If he pitches well enough down the stretch and into the playoffs to change his projections, which are pretty mid right now, I could change my tune. Even then, his projections are worse than Cody Ponce’s right now and he'll have thrown a combined 120 innings over the past three years including whatever weird injury he had to start this season. We already have the Ponce and Spencer Miles types in house. With all this money coming off the books and basically no bats on the market, I’d rather shop at the top of the pitching market and find another ace to pair with Cease. I don’t think Bieber is that guy anymore. He’s a #4 right now with #3 upside and a huge reliability risk. I mean how could anyone make a bet on him to pitch 150 innings next season right now? And the league has also changed since he was an ace. I’m not sure 92 mph fastballs are enough to make him a frontline playoff starter anymore. Seems like we should aim higher. He feels like a San Francisco Giant to me. We’re the big spending Toronto Blue Jays.

    Shitler is easy to rage bait with a bullpen day. This game is a toss up.

    Bieber is kind of cooked. There was some hope that he could return to form, but that ship is sailing. It’s important to remember that his TJS masked a decline that was already happening before the injury. Now it’s been almost 2.5 years since the surgery and he still hasn’t gotten back to where he was. At this point, it’s getting pretty hard to see that happening. Look at it this way: he took the $16M player option last year, and since then he’s had an even worse season with even more injury and reliability concerns piled on. He’s another year removed from TJS and still hasn’t gotten back to form. Even his projections are pretty mid at this point and we couldn't even trade him for a sack of marbles at the deadline. If you sign him, can you even reasonably expect him to get through spring training healthy, take the ball every fifth day, and give you 150+ innings? Hell no. And if you’re paying a starter $22M, you should at least have some confidence that he can do that.

    They just don't have that dawg in 'em Tigers = +82 run differential and NO DAWG = lottery bound Jays = -56 run differential but they do have that DAWG in 'em = the playoffs are easy to make

    My hope was that we could tread water during this difficult part of the schedule. Instead, we've gone 11-6, have made up about 4 games in the WC standings, and have passed 5 teams. 3 game set against the Yankees this weekend and then the easiest closing schedule I've ever seen over the final 5 weeks. The Playoffs will be easy to make.
