  2. Perfect fit for him and their team.
  3. Yeah his offense isn't great but it's not a complete drag and he's effective at guarding 2s, 3s and 4s.
  4. Louis Williams is a stud though signed through next season and the Rockets really were only playing 3 guards, kind of unusual for a team that plays small with a 3 guard lineup at times. For a low first round pick that's not bad. Shedding Brewer's dead weight helps too.
  5. Even though he is spitballing he's dead wrong about this IMO. Upton playing well in LF and Pearce at 1B is a far better defensive alignment and I think Upton has a better chance of putting up a 1.5 WAR season than Smoak does. You'd have to think that 1B would help protect Pearce's elbow more as well.
  6. Good points. I just think of Coors Field and how it's all brick which helps it blend in with the surrounding area. A huge dome of concrete is an eyesore but you're right, it would cost a shitload to do anything about it.
  7. Yeah I think there is way too much instability down there to have a team IMO.
  8. I like these ideas of yours the best. I think they could at least lessen the number of warm up pitches one gets. I'd hate to see a reliever get injured though because he's not warm. But I think the biggest thing is the pace of the pitches thrown. If you get a guy coming in and after the pitch he steps off the mound, wipes his head off, stares at the ground and thinks, then finally settles in before throwing it just takes forever. The clock will help the most. Another thing to consider is replay. I like it but at the same time it takes forever right now. They either need to speed it up or even get rid of it. The game was fine before it was implemented. They could also implement some sort of time out system where you get three mound visits per game. SS, C, Pitcher or the dugout can call for a mound visit. Then during the playoffs all of the rules could get relaxed some.
  9. Mandatory spankings from the manager to the player each time the player strikes out.
  10. I'm not one that thinks teams should govern their player's facial hair but this might be the exception.
  11. Is there anyway to make it less ugly? It's just too much concrete. There has to be some sort of siding they could put on it? I see they need to replace the roof in the coming years as well. Would be a good opportunity to make that more appealing from the inside. The Astros stadium has a much more appealing roof. Perhaps they could put some blue scaffolding on the inside of it.
  12. And yeah that's the other thing, he'd basically be playing for free as he gets that money no matter what.
  13. I thought he might try for it as well but no one really cares about his home run milestones since he's a known and admitted 'roid user. It also takes a lot to get geared up and ready to play just to chase a largely meaningless milestone. There probably would only be a handful of teams that would be mildly interested.
  14. He was a really high profile GM during the Bobby Valentine days. I'm surprised you didn't know that, you must be young.
  15. Fangraphs wrote some stupid article about Lebron being a 42 WAR baseball player. He'd basically have to be vintage Craig Kimbrel for 9 innings every 5 days. In between starts he'd have to play SS and he'd do it better than Ozzie Smith. On top of it he'd hit better than Barry Bonds and he'd play every day. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/lets-imagine-a-baseball-playing-lebron-james/
  16. I'm excited to see what Steve Pearce can do although he seems pegged to be on the short side of the platoon to start. I'm excited to see the usual suspects- Donaldson, Bautista, Tulo, Martin, etc. It will be nice to have a good starter throw every day. I'm also excited on keeping tabs on the farm system. Seems like we actually have some guys getting closer to contributing even though we will see more of that in 2018 than we will this season.
  17. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/carmelo/buddy-hield/ 538 has a CARMELO projection system. I think basketball reference has advanced stats. So does 82games.com Nothing is as developed or as universal as WAR is for baseball players though. It probably never will be as the game revolves more around team work and isn't a game of individual outcomes like baseball is.
  18. Does Steamer, Zips, etc. factor in that a player's ABs will come in a platoon against his favorable side? I think most of the projections have Alvarez and Morales as similar hitters next year.
  19. He's complicated. He's an ******* and a hot head. But he's also very giving in the community and had a better relationship with the fans than he did teammates or coaches. I went to college in Sacramento and have been a fan of the team for over a decade but it might be time to move on after this.
  20. Yeah that's a stretch to say Alvarez is better but the two are actually pretty comparable with their bats. One of them got 3 years 33 million and the other can't even find a job.
  21. Morales would have gotten way less than 2 for 20. Chris Carter is an easily comparable player and he got 1 year 3 million.
  22. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-worst-transactions-of-the-2017-offseason/ The worst transactions of 2017 by Dave Cameron. The Jays and Morales comes in at #2 overall worst transaction behind the Ian Desmond signing.
  23. Are there teams that don't dumpster dive?
  24. They are probably just trying to build depth. The average MLB team uses ten starting pitchers in a season and needs roughly 32 starts out of guys not in their opening day five. There's a 65% chance that the average MLB team will have two injured starting pitchers at the same time during a season. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/so-how-many-starters-does-a-team-need-then/
