  1. Latos is cooked. Still only 29 though and I assume it will be a minor league deal so why not.
  2. The problem with building your team almost entirely around a young core of starting pitching. Probably would have been smart to have traded one or two of them for some positional players to mitigate the risk back when they had the chance.
  3. Lol baseball players just love looking weird. The beard/haircut combos are ridiculous.
  4. Oh yeah I agree, their prediction isn't worth much. I still think it's a good signing though. Really low AAV yet they got him locked in for 3 years. If he really does hit like that he provides surplus value in year 1 of the deal. At worst he's probably still a fine bench bat.
  5. New Blue Jays LHP JP Howell's reason for wanting to sign in Toronto? "They just do what they want to do. Not worried about what people think. That's the way I like to live and play."
  6. Yeah I noticed them too, definitely a cut below the four I mentioned though.
  7. Geezus, Steamer is projecting a 124 wRC+ for Eric Thames. That was a hell of a signing.
  8. We've had some stud 1B. Delgado, Olerud, Encarnacion and McGriff. They cover decades of full-time 1B play for us.
  9. I don't think his arm falls of just yet. I think he gets between 3.5 and 4.0 so I voted for 4.
  10. Yeah I agree and if he's stretched out in Spring Training and they have a ST injury which can happen he's ready to go right off the bat. Frees up a spot to give a guy like Sparkman a shot to stick or they could just fill it with Loup or someone else who probably isn't that much worse than Biagini anyway.
  11. I'm seeing a lot of low rankings there. lol
  12. Wow that's awful. Ernie Whitt had a nice career, started off rough but after a couple years his prime netted us about just under 20 WAR over 7 years or so. Above average with the stick every season during that period. Martin will become #2 all-time in just his 3rd season. 3B is terrible as well but for Donaldson. Rance Mulliniks is currently in the lead followed by Donaldson who in 2 years almost passed him. Then you've got Gruber in 3rd and Eric Hinske(!) is 4th.
  13. Catching has to be the worst position in franchise history. Ernie Whitt held down the job for a long time and was pretty good at times but it seems like we've been floating from year to year with the Bengie Molina's, Arencibia's and Rod Barajas' of the world until we got Martin.
  14. What does TINSTAACP mean again? Something about Catchers not panning out as prospects? EDIT: There is no such thing as a catching prospect.
  15. I hear ya we just always have the Quiroz, Phelps, Arencibia, Chip Cannon (although he may have been a non-prospect), Arencibia, Jimenez, etc. I think all of them made lists at some point but for Cannon and Jimenez but none have been any good at all in any facet of the game really.
  16. I think I might make myself some spaghetti.
  17. I knew this would happen. Here's to hoping that Pearce balls out from the get-go and wins the job outright. Giving AB's to a zero like Smoak when the Chris Carter's of the world were signing for 3 million this offseason is frustrating.
  18. Yeah he's probably a candidate to move up quickly.
  19. I remember hearing Sean Casey talk about the arb process and how personal it can get. The Reds were telling the aribitrators how he's slow, his defense is slipping, he's got no power for a 1B, etc. It was funny the way he described it.
  20. Seems like we always have a halfway decent C prospect that never pans out.
  21. That would make some sense to me, especially after adding Smith who can take over Biagini's role. It would also give us an extra spot to try out Sparkman. Biagini and Bolsinger aren't horrible SP depth, considering an already deep starting 5.
  22. Wow! Now that's a hot take!
  23. Hazel Mae is okay. I actually came to appreciate Davis toward the end. Not so much because he did a good job but seeing the annoyed players interact with him made it worth watching. With Hazel Mae it will just be the typical boring and bland stuff. I don't know anything about Arash Madani.
  24. http://m.bluejays.mlb.com/news/article/215690542/jays-return-strong-team-minus-familiar-faces/ Jays beat writer Gregor Chisholm lays out what he thinks the 25 man roster will be. I think he does a pretty good job even though it's pretty much all speculation. Interesting to hear what he says about Pompey taking over LF full-time in May.
  25. Holy s*** they hate our farm. SRF at #85 and Alford at #93 and that's it.
