  1. Who's been traded? I wouldn't put Giles at the same level as Aroldis Chapman. Andrew Miller was at a tier above Giles and had 4 years of control. He was traded for "difference makers". It's 4 years later. What have Frazier, Sheffield or Heller done? You want to flip Giles for a guy who could be a difference maker in 3 years? We just signed Ryu. It's time to start adding pieces now, not subtracting. The goal should be competing in 2021. How can you suggest signing Betts next year and flipping Giles. The two don't go together. No team is trading a close to major league ready prospect for a year of Giles. The best your going to do is get a higher upside prospect that is 2 or 3 years away. It doesn't fit the timeline.
  2. I said a couple weeks ago that Rogers should make the offer to Mookie next year, but we have to somehow convince him to come here too. It's part of the reason I want to extend Giles. I don't think we get a difference maker in a trade with Giles. He's a very good closer that helps our team more attractive to free agents.
  3. sounds more like expecting than hoping. Time will tell.
  4. Nelson off the board, but Wood, Walker and Salazar are still out there. Would love to pick up one of those guys. Is Salazar going to get anything more than a minor league deal? Can he pass a medical? I'm not sure Wood or Walker would cost much.
  5. Walker is trending up again. He's at 85% again and gotten a few more guys who didn't vote for him last year. 35.7% of the ballot now known.
  6. about an hour ago. I wish all picks could be traded.
  7. aren't the rays the ones who usually acquire prospects in big trades?
  8. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's grandma's cooking not momma's that's his vice..lol. We're probably better off with Shaw at 3rd and Vlad at first. I wonder if they'll go there at all next year.
  9. What if you could get 3 and 33 right now, which carries risk on both sides, but would be much less than signing an elite reliever on the open market next year? We are also a lot closer to contention than we were last year and the return probably isn't going to be that great.
  10. The point is you painted him as a mediocre injury riddled pitcher who would jump at the chance to sign a 3 and 24 extension. I think he might consider a 3 and 33 or 36 mil extension, but I don’t even know if he even wants to stay with the organization. If he pitches well with relative health he will get more than will smith got. Maybe he wants to bet on himself. Sorry, I thought it was an innocuous comment. I didn’t mean to anger you to the point of swearing.
  11. Ken Giles had 1 DL stint last year and he almost missed the minimum pitching 13 days after he was put on the DL. Not every pitcher who has elbow discomfort needs Tommy John. Tanaka's was suppose to have Tommy John every year for the last 5 years. He came back after this elbow discomfort and pitched very well in August and September. Despite the elbow discomfort he still pitched 53 innings. Gile's rocky career is one where in his worst season he posted a 3.08 FIP in 6 seasons and his career FIP is 2.37 over 6 seasons.
  12. prospects are volatile too. If Giles has no appetite for an extension, trading him makes sense though.
  13. No, you felt the need to argue over the definition of top prospect. Who are the top prospects in Anaheim's system in your mind?
  14. I didn't say anything about value. I said top prospect. You keep suggesting we trade anyone who is actually good because you love prospects. The trade you proposed was ridiculous. You said he's a guy who projects as an average outfielder, so you acknowledge the player has value. The Angels are never making that trade.
  15. He's their 2nd ranked prospect. He's one of the top prospects as it relates to their organization. When you have a crappy farm and not near enough starting pitching, trading one of the better prospects in your organization for a reliever with one year of control probably isn't advisable.
  16. The Angels aren't willing to do it, so we should just hang on to Giles. You're not going to get a top prospect from a team for 1 year of Giles.
  17. Larry Walker is getting into the Hall of fame. If the writers blow it and don't put him in this year the veteran's committee will put him in. I'm not sure how the veteran's committee works? Would he be eligible next year or would he have to wait a few years? Larry's Dad, Larry Walker Sr, is 81 and still umpires 6 games a week in the summer. His Dad has a great passion for the game. I'm sure it would mean a lot to him to see his son go in. I hope it happens this year.
  18. somewhere Ozzie Albies is cursing his agent.
  19. 1. Overall grade of B 2. Ryu A+, Shaw B, Yamaguchi B, Anderson C+, Roark D 3. Pitching both in the Rotation and in the bullpen. I doubt we do much more. 4. I've already stated I'm in the extend Giles camp. 5. Mid June 6. I expect Vlad to have a 130 wRC+ so I think that qualifies as a nice leap.
  20. Well my fav soccer club westbrom is tied atop the championship with Leeds and they face off in 15 minutes so I’m not sure I can support bob at least for today
  21. You are sooooooooo much cooler than Bob.
  22. Wood is a guy I would love to sign. I'm looking at him as a starter if he's healthy and performs well in spring. The back is a tricky thing. If he can get his health back there's a lot of upside.
  23. Ask yourself if that was really necessary.
  24. There is risk to Price, but there is also upside. I don't think he has ever been comfortable in Boston. No one is giving up anything and taking that contract on, but if they ate half the contract and were looking for a prospect back I understand it. Price at 3 years and 48 isn't a bad contract. I really have no clue what they would be willing to eat though.
  25. They also had one of the best pitchers in the game. I wonder if things might have turned out different if he hadn't tragically died.
