  1. You don't think pitchers will be told not to lick their fingers if they are saying no spitting? I'm sure they will tell players not to pick their nose during the game. Wash your hands first before picking. You should contact the league and the players association and tell them to quit fighting, because the risks are too dire to proceed with the season anyways. It would save a lot of fighting.
  2. People die in car crashes every day. You better not ever get behind a wheel again in your life.
  3. Why would people have to self quarantine if they have been tested and test negative? If a player tests positive and all other players, coaches and managers will go through testing and club houses will go through a deep clean. They aren't throwing caution to the wind. Players with pre-existing conditions will not play. The virus doesn't kill young healthy people.
  4. Fine 2 to 4 weeks. These people are at risk at home. If the health risk is so dire, we are we going through the anguish. Just cancel the season. German soccer has been doing fine. I understand that they don't have the cases the US does, but the premier league is about to get going and the UK is worse than the US.
  5. The economic realities for smaller market clubs with crap TV deals are real. The big clubs with big TV deals are fine. The Rockies TV deal brings in 40 to 50 mil. At 50 that's 14.5 for 48 games. 10 of that is eaten up by the draft. 15 is eaten up by player pension and benefits. Salary is 43.5 mil for 48 games. There's still executive pay, paying scouts, paying minor leaguers if they do the right thing, paying hotels, flights, meals, paying for testing for Covid. Let's call it 15 mil. They will get some revenue from 50% revenue sharing and they get 30 mil from playoffs. However if a second wave hits and playoffs are a no go they are screwed. 2 things can solve the plight of the small market clubs. Players take less salary. Secondly, the owners 50% revenue sharing(which is just for this season) seemed like a massive step when I initially read it, but owners have to do more. Move revenue sharing to 75% or 100% just for this season for the good of the league.
  6. I've said all along that I thought players might be at less risk of contracting Covid in a controlled environment playing baseball with regular testing than being at home alone on their own going to grocery stores. It shouldn't come as a shock that some players have tested positive already. A season shouldn't shut down the first time a player tests positive. That player goes on the DL and self isolates until he's virus free and can return.
  7. They get 35.5% of their pay at 80% vs 29.6% at full prorated 48 games. They also offered 50 mil post season pool and no draft pick compensation which would be huge for a handful of guys and the rest wouldn't give a s***. The owners aren't stupid. When the union files a grievance their stance will be we offered you more money and you declined. It sort of blows this whole," I don't play this game for money" statement out of the water. They are being offered less money per game, but more money total. If they really loved the game, you'd think they would take the offer with the most money. The union could end this right now. Ask for 80 games at 85%.
  8. Well that was kinda neat. They are interviewing the louisville coach and we take Britton as the interview is going on.
  9. Getting Martin really should be good enough, but reading an orioles fan post this is really the cherry on top! I'm pissed. 10 years of seeing Martin light us up while we've got an outfield with 40 speed.
  10. man i wish we had minor league ball going now that we got Martin. This kid should fly through the minors.
  11. hmm...wonder what that does for the jays pick now.
  12. they didn't break down the expanded playoffs and how many games it would be. I'm well away of the playoff revenue. The owners had it in their proposal as well and players also benefit with expanded playoffs.
  13. The last proposal was 76 games 75% salary. They could have negotiated close to 100 games at 80% if they had just started real negotiations a month ago. Players could be in spring training right now. Players aren't so hard done by. It takes 43 service days to qualify for a pension. Alford and Jonathan Davis may never make a roster going forward and they already qualify for 34,000 dollars a year pension. The 76 game 75% is pretty much the same as 50 games fully pro rated, but it came with no draft pick compensation for free agents and a guaranteed playoff pool. The players playoff pool comes from paid attendance. If we head to a 50 game season and there's still no fans come playoff time, contractually the owners aren't obligated to give them anything and draft pick compensation would be status quo next year. Now I think the owners can and would make a better offer than their last offer, but players are unwilling to budge.
  14. The MLB didn't offer that, they just put it that this is what they are going to impose. They were open to negotiations for a longer season. The interesting thing will be once they impose this season and the mlbpa executive say screw it we're not playing. The in fighting among the players themselves should be fun. Anyone who hasn't hit free agency doesn't want to lose a year of service time, especially the players who broke into the league at an older age will be furious and will want to play. The union will say don't worry, we'll sue those bastards and the legal battles will begin. Was it safe to play? Should owners be obligated to give service time when no games were played? If there ends up being no baseball this year this period the off season could be a full on war.
  15. When you take all the risks you also make the rules. That's why were are going to have a 48 game season. Just announce it and be done with it. The players don't "deserve" a longer season. They assume no risk. The fans "deserve" a longer season, but we're the ones who will get screwed.
  16. So their significant concession was if a player voluntarily decides he doesn't want to play he doesn't get his service time or his salary. Man how generous. They agreed to extended playoffs that they all want to play in and players also participate in the revenue from the gate. For this year the players also want a guarantee of 50 million for the playoff bonus pool even if there are no fans. The MLBPA sure did cave.
  17. The NBA is taking over the baseball is back thread..lol. Those greedy baseball f***s.
  18. The players stance is we negotiated pro-rated salaries screw you. The owners in turn are saying we negotiated the ability to control the length of the season so screw you. The players should get a fair proportion of revenues. In this upside down world maybe that fair amount is an amount where owners make zero profit this year. However, they are asking the owners to lose money this year. That is not a fair proportion of revenues. We're talking about multi millionaires with their hands out asking for charity. Now the owners can afford to lose money for one year, but I don't want billionaire owners giving money to multi millionaire players. In the world we live in I want the billionaires to donate to real people effected by covid losses. If each owner is going to lose 50 to 100 million dollars a team, I'd rather they took that money and gave it to poor people who really need the money. The players need to wake the f*** up and be reasonable.
  19. To the greedy owners and players, I would just like to say....f*** you! A sliding scale for player salaries makes the most sense. Just tweak the numbers and percentages to be more fair. Build in contingencies for a return of fans. Get the deal done and start the game.
  20. probably should be 0-0....keeper could have done better there.
  21. anybody not watching bayern and this guy are missing out.
  22. This is the Covid season....after 11 if it's still tied, it goes to a home run competition to decide it!
  23. that's pretty good. My question is how does service time work? With no AAA when and can you call up Pearson? Do we see him this year?
  24. Just start the season already. We still have the Yankees, but bring on the Pirates!
